Hunted
Flashback
-Flashback-
I heard the scream. "Vanessa?" I yelled. My footsteps pounded the concrete as I ran to her. She was by my side a few seconds ago. Where had she gone? I heard another scream. I kept following the horrid sounds until I found Vanessa laying, limp, in an alleyway. The cloaked man stood over her, holding a freshly blood-stained knife above her face. She was bleeding everywhere. We were only seven. "No!" I screamed. I'd already lost my parents. I'd thought that my life couldn't get any worse. I was wrong. Blood spattered across her face. Her lips were swollen and blood dripped down them. Her eyes shone in terror. Blood stained her nose and cheeks. I couldn't stand the sight of it. He cut her again and her howls of agony echoed across the night sky. No one heard. He turned his back to her and faced me. Leveling the knife, he advanced. "Demi!" Vanessa screamed. "Run! I don't care if he kills me, I want you to be safe!" "No!" I yelled. "Demi! Just run! I love you!" Her eyes pleaded me to do as she asked. So I turned my back and ran away, into the black night sky.
-End of Flashback-
That image replayed through my mind as I ran down the street, my footsteps thudding against the pavement, just like it had done on that cold night. No one was there to see it. No one ever was.
What did he want with me? Why did he kill my family? At least he didn't know I was here... I think.
