Hunted
Chill
-Flashback-
The house creaked. The wind blew against my shutters. I huddled under my blankets. "Vanessa?" I asked timidly. She and I were only five. "Demi? Did-did you hear that?" She inquired. "Yes." Was my reply. Suddenly, a scream erupted from my parents' room. We rushed out of bed to see them. Mother was dying, with huge, bloody cuts across her face and neck. Father was bleeding, but still alive. "Mom!" I screamed. Vanessa just stood there open-mouthed. "Go! Run and leave without me! I-I love you-" We're Mother's last words. With one swift stroke of the knife, the cloaked man killed her. Tears streamed down our faces. "Girls!" My father yelled. "I-I won't live. But I love you! Always remember that I love you!" He screamed. His blue eyes opened wide and he stared at us, his eyes piercing my heart. A knife stabbed through his back and he died. The tears fell faster. Then the cloaked man started walking towards us. "Did they tell you?" His raspy voice asked. We didn't know what that meant. Vanessa still stood there, frozen. I grabbed her arm and pulled her away. She finally woke from her daze as we ran from the house, screaming, with nothing but each other.
-End of Flashback-
The story replayed in my mind as I saw him, with his back turned to me. I slowly backed away. He didn't see me, but he was here. He would sense me soon.
After I was back on the silent street, I turned and ran.
