Perfect To Me

Are We Friends Or Are We More

After having lunch with my mum, Abby and Adam we headed back to the shoot.

“Harry will I be expecting you and the boys for dinner?” My mum asked from beside me. I’m glad she visited me and everything I just wish I had known Abby would be our photographer so I could tell my mum not to come. I feel like I threw my mom’s appearance on her but she handled it really well I might add. I mean Abby and I haven’t even talked about our feelings for one another, we can’t deny that we have feelings for the other.

“Yeah, we always come,” I told my mum as I gave her a smile. I looked down at Abby who was on the other side of me and by the look on her face you could tell she was off in her own world right now. She was casually looking around at her surroundings taking it all in; she had a content look on her face.

“What are you thinking about?” I whispered to her and she snapped out of her trance and smiled up at me.

“How beautiful England is,” she rambled off. I placed my arm across her shoulders and pulled her into me.

“Abby, you are more than welcome to join us for supper,” my mum said to Abby as we weaved through a crowded spot.

“Oh thank you but I don’t want to intrude,” Abby politely replied.

“Nonsense, you wouldn’t be intruding dear! We would be happy to have you!”

“It’s your time to be with Harry I really don’t mind, Anne,” Abby said, she was being too polite. My mum didn’t mind having her come, she would still get time with her son.

“Don’t be absurd. You’re coming, I trust Harry will get you there.”

“I will mum, no worries,” I said to her as we stopped just outside the shoot. I let go of Abby and brought my mum into a hug goodbye.

“I’ll see you, Abby and the boys for dinner,” my mum said as she hugged Abby goodbye. We waved goodbye to her as she got in her car and drove off.

“You know you don’t have to take me right?” Abby said and I stared at her in disbelief.

“Why don’t you want to go?” I asked her.

“Because I just met her! We aren’t even dating Harry and we haven’t even talked about what’s going on between us, I find it a little weird to go eat dinner with your family.”

“Abby you’ll be fine. You’re my friend and my family likes to meet my friends,” I reassured her.

“Harry, everyone knows that whatever is going on between us isn’t friends. In America we don’t meet the parents until weeks after dating, unless you were friends before. We were friends for a week before we jumped into whatever we are,” Abby said while throwing her hands in the air.

“You don’t live in America anymore, you live in England now. We do things differently here, Abs.”

“Well I’m still American, Harry and my customs or whatever is different. It was uncomfortable enough being bombarded with meeting your mother. She’s a lovely woman but it would have been great if you told me when you saw me this morning that your mother would be stopping by,” Abby said, slightly raising her voice at me.

“And it would have been great if you told me you were going to be the photographer for this shoot!” I yelled back at her beginning to get fed up.

“Seriously?! That isn’t as serious as meeting your mother Harry!” Abby yelled then turned and angrily stomped off shaking her head. I walked in the opposite direction to go get ready for the second half of the shoot. When I walked into where the boys were they could all tell something happened.

“You okay mate?” Liam asked from his spot on a couch.

“No.”

“What’s the matter?” He asked with concern in his voice.

“Abby, she’s being ridiculous,” I said to him as I plopped down next to him.

“Tell Dr. Liam what happened.”

“She doesn’t want to go eat dinner at my mum’s house because she felt bombarded by meeting her today and she’s mad because we haven’t established anything between us and apparently in America they do things differently when it comes to meeting parents,” I explained to him, getting angrier as I was reminded about our argument.

“Well mate, she was thrown off guard you can’t be mad at her for that, but I personally think there might be a deeper meaning,” Liam offered and I looked at him to tell him to go. “I think she’s more upset that you two aren’t established.”

“But she’s never mentioned anything about that before?”

“Mate you two haven’t even talked about your feelings for one another, so you don’t know how she feels about it. Maybe she wants to be official or maybe she just wants to know what you two are. I can understand what she’s saying, she doesn’t want to meet your entire family when she isn’t sure what you two are because it’s obvious you two are more than friends,” Liam stated and I just stared at him in awe. How is he so brilliant about things like this? I mean I don’t know if that’s really the problem between Abby and I but it could be. I hugged him and then changed into my set of clothes. I wanted to let Abby blow some of her steam off so I ignored her for the rest of the photo-shoot only doing what she asked me to do. You could feel the awkward tension between us and it was driving me crazy, I just wanted the shoot to be over with so I could talk to her. After three more hours of shooting they finally declared the shoot as done. I ran to wardrobe and quickly changed back into my regular clothes before running back out to go look for Abby, I saw Adam walking away from me.

“Adam! Wait up!” I yelled at him and ran to catch up to him.

“What’s up man?” He asked.

“Have you seen Abby? I need to talk to her,” I said as I caught my breath from running.

“Yeah she’s headed to the car park, black mini cooper,” Adam said nodding his head and I took off for the car park. Once I got there I looked for her car and when I found it she was already climbing in to it. I ran over to her and caught the door before it closed.

“Harry, what are you doing?” Abby asked with irritation.

“Just listen okay?” I said and she nodded her head after thinking about whether or not she should listen to me. “I’m sorry for throwing my mom’s visit on you like that. I didn’t think you’d mind because you handled meeting my four best friends like it was nothing and Danielle told me she was more nervous about meeting us before meeting Liam’s parents and I thought you were the same way, but now I know you aren’t.”

“Okay, is that it?” Abby asked, not making eye contact.

“No. Secondly, I don’t know what we are but that’s the least of my worries. I care about you, I care about you enough to know we are more than friends. I haven’t asked you to be my girlfriend because I like what we have right now, we act like we’re a couple but we don’t have the title of it. I feel like its more real and I’m afraid that if I get into a relationship with you and make it official that it will fall apart and I don’t want to lose you. Abby you’re an amazing girl, you have confidence like no other girl I’ve known, you’re funny, you’re outgoing and you are so carefree. You are all about having a good time and making your life worth living. I admire that about you, I admire that you eat loads of food in front me, I admire that you don’t hide anything from me, most importantly I admire that you are yourself around me. You don’t hide who you really are, you want someone to like you for you and not what you pretend to be. Not to mention I like that you didn’t know who I was when we first met and when you did find out who I was you still treated me the same way you did when you met me, like shit,” I said as I tried not to laugh. “I want to pursue something more with you but I’m just not ready, I want to keep doing what we’re doing because I enjoy it.” When I finished I looked at Abby and she let a single tear roll down her cheek and I quickly used my thumb to wipe it away.

“Say something,” I said to her after a few minutes of silence.

“That’s the nicest and sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me, and I don’t want to pursue anything more between us right now either. I’m happy with whatever we are,” she finally said with a smile on her face.

“It’s all the truth,” I said to her and pushed a piece of hair out of her face and brought my lips down on hers. We sat there kissing for a few minutes when I pulled away.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to but would you like to go eat at my mum’s with me?” I asked her, hoping she would say yes.

“Okay I’ll go but can we see if Adam will take Sage home first?” Abby asked as she climbed over the center console of her car to get in the passenger’s seat. I got in the driver’s seat and drove over to where Adam was loading his car up, we asked if he would watch her dog until we got back and he agreed. After giving him Sage we drove to my mum’s house.

We pulled up outside my mum’s house and climbed out of Abby’s car. We walked into my mum’s house where we were greeted by the guys and my parents. After hugging my parents I saw Liam nod his head at me, as he could clearly tell Abby and I talked things out. We followed everyone into the kitchen where we all took a seat at one of the breakfast counters seats.

“Harry, why don’t you show Abby around? So she doesn’t feel like a stranger here!” My mum commanded as she chopped some food up.

“Yes ma’am,” I said as I hopped off my chair and signaled for Abby to come on.

“Yeah Haz, show her around!” Zayn said while he wiggled his eyebrows at us when we walked by, I hit him upside the head. I laced my fingers with Abby’s and pulled her toward the stairs as I pointed out the living area and dining room. I pulled her upstairs and I could hear her laughing behind me, when I looked back I smiled at her.

“What are you laughing at?” I asked her.

“You would be eager to show me the upstairs,” she said as we reached the top of the staircase.

“I’m just showing you my childhood home,” I told her as I winked at her. I pointed out my parent’s rooms, Gemma’s room, the bathrooms, and the guest rooms. I saved my bedroom for last because that’s the best part! I put my hand on the familiar door knob and opened the door.

“Don’t judge me,” I said before I let her see the inside. My room had a bunch of The Beatles, The Ramones, Coldplay, and other bands posters hanging up. My school desk was cluttered with CD’s and my old computer, the floors were clean for once and my bed was still unmade from the last time I was here.

“It’s homey,” Abby said as she plopped down on my bed. I walked over to join her.

“Thanks.”

“You have good taste in bands I might add, The Beatles are pure perfection,” Abby said and I sat up and stared at her.

“You like the Beatles?!” I asked her and she only laughed at me.

“Yes. I grew up listening to them, they are part of the reason I love England so much!” She said while pulling me back down.

“Why didn’t I know this?”

“You never asked doofus,” Abby said and I rolled over to where I was on top of her.

“Excuse me?” I said staring in her blue eyes and only inches away from her lips.

“I called you a doofus,” Abby said, matter of factly.

“I am NO such thing,” I told her while inching my lips closer to hers, not breaking eye contact.

“Your family is downstairs Harry.”

“So?” I said again moving my lips closer to hers, now only centimeters apart. I could feel her breath hitting my lips and it only made me crave her lips more.

“That’s rude!” She exclaimed as she smiled.

“You have such a pretty smile,” I told her and I saw a blush make its way onto her cheeks.

“Thank you—“ Before she could get anything else out I pressed my lips against hers, it took her a few seconds to react but she was soon kissing me back. We moved our lips against one another’s for a few minutes, my hands rested on her hips as she tangled her fingers in my hair. After making out for a few more minutes it was time to come up for oxygen, I smiled down at her and pushed some hair out of her face.

“Yep, my rooms still got it,” I said to her and she playfully smacked my chest.

“You’re an asshole,” Abby said as I rolled off her and sat up. We left my room and went back downstairs where all the guys stared at us like they knew something happened.

“Hey guys, nice of you two to join us again,” Louis said with amusement in his voice.

“Yeah, you have a nice house Anne,” Abby said from beside me.

“Oh thank you dear!” My mum said as she placed a bunch of dishes on the dining table. “Okay kids, gather ‘round, supper is ready.”

We all got up and took a seat at the table, both my parents took the head spots, Liam, Louis and Zayn were sat on the other side of the table whereas Niall, Abby and myself were sat across from them. We all began to eat and chat amongst one another.

Things were good; I’ve got the boys, my family and a girl who is on the same page as me when it comes to being in a relationship. I couldn’t ask for a better life.
