Perfect To Me

Your Heart Was An Open Book

“Harry, I’m exhausted,” Abby said as she walked through the door of our hotel room and set down all of her shopping bags. As our final, alone, day in Australia we did some shopping and also went sky diving, which was intense.

“Well, you can’t take a nap because we have to get ready for dinner,” I told her as I dragged her off the bed and turned her around to face me.

“Okay,” she whispered as she stared into my green eyes. I smiled at her before pulling her in for a kiss. I love kissing Abby, it’s something that I will never get used to, and I’m addicted to the feeling of her lips against mine. She turned around to head into the bathroom to get ready and before she could walk away I smacked her butt. “Ow!” She exclaimed while throwing her middle finger in the air.

I was nervous for dinner tonight because I was planning on taking the next step in our relationship and I wasn’t sure how Abby would respond. Mainly, because we agreed we wanted to wait until February to take that next step, but I don’t think I can wait any longer, she’s perfect. I knew I wanted to do this since I threw up on stage in Pittsburgh back in July.

I peeled my t-shirt off my torso and tossed it into my dirty clothes pile, growing next to my suitcase, along with my shorts. I walked over to the closet and took out my, freshly ironed, slacks, dress shirt and blazer. I had just pulled my slacks on when I heard Abby’s singing coming from the bathroom, I smirked and pulled my phone out as I crept up to the door and started to film her.

”Hey, how ya doin’? Sorry you can’t get through.
Why don’t you leave your name and your number and we’ll get back to you,”
Abby sang Little Mix’s ‘How Ya Doin’?’ while dancing in front of the mirror and applying her makeup. I smiled as I went unnoticed further into the bathroom. She’d gotten to the second chorus of the song when she finally saw me, laughing, behind her in the mirror.

“Harry!” Abby exclaimed as she turned around and smacked me with a hand towel.

“Ow, what?” I said, still video tapping her.

“Stop taping me, and let me get ready, dork,” she, sweetly, said with a smile on her face. I grinned at her before leaning forward and kissing her. I stopped recording but before she could object, I posted it to Twitter.

@Harry_Styles: My bird @AbbyEGrimes has such a lovely singing voice. Is Little Mix looking for a new member? *insert link*

I walked back into the main part of the room and before Abby could walk out and spot me, I walked over to my suitcase and pulled a navy blue velvet box from the luggage and placed it in my pocket. After the American leg of the tour we went and visited my dad, Des, and while we were there he gave me the ring my granddad used to propose to my grandmum. It was also the ring my dad used to propose to my mum. I pulled my gray dress shirt on, quickly applying deodorant and doing up the buttons, before pulling on my black blazer. I put my belt on and shoved my feet into my dress shoes. I pulled my necklaces out so you could see them resting on my shirt and I followed that by spraying some of my cologne on. I didn’t bother fixing my mess of curls sitting on my head, because I would just mess them up, thanks to my nerves. I walked back over to the bathroom to check on Abby’s progress.

“You ready ye—whoa,” I said once my eyes landed on her.

“What?” She, shyly, asked as she tucked her shirt into her skirt.

“You look…gorgeous,” I told her as I admired her maroon skirt, off-white lace top, and her dark brown hair braided off to the side.

“Is it enough for the restaurant?” Abby asked as she put her jewelry on.

“It’s plenty, babe,” I told her as I walked up behind her, resting my hands on her hips as I admired her some more through the mirror. “Absolutely gorgeous.”

“Thank you,” she muttered before turning around and planting a quick kiss on my lips.

“Are you ready to go?” I asked her as I stepped back and went to rest against the counter.

“Yeah, I just need to go put my shoes on.” I followed her into the room and watched as she sat on the bed and pulled her shoes on. She spritzed herself with some perfume before pulling on a denim jacket and grabbing her purse. I held the door open for her as she grabbed my free hand and pulled me into the hallway, in an anxious manner.

“Somebody’s hungry,” I said with amusement as we walked towards the lift.

“No, just want to see where you’re taking me,” she said as she pressed the button that calls the lift.

We got to the lobby where a car was waiting for us outside and I held Abby’s hand as she climbed into the black SUV. The driver already knew where to go so as soon as I shut the door he pulled away from the curb and began our journey to the beachside restaurant. I nervously bounced my knee during the car ride and after a few minutes Abby put her hand on my bouncing knee.

“What’s the matter? You’re nervous,” she said as she stared into my eyes.

“How do you know?” I asked her as I placed a hand on her thigh.

“For one, you’re bouncing your knee and you only do that when you’re nervous or excited but what really gives it away is your gray eyes,” she said with a small smile on her face as she continued to stare into my eyes. See? That’s what I love about this girl, she knows the smallest details about me, and it’s not because she’s observant, it’s because she cares for me.

“I love you,” I told her as I leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her lips.

“I love you too, but that doesn’t explain why you’re nervous?” She said with amusement while titling her head, playfully, to the side.

“I just want this dinner to go right is all. You deserve a perfect night.”

“It’s already perfect, Harry,” Abby said and I gave her a confusing look. “I’m spending it with you.” I grinned at her before pulling her in for another kiss. We spent the remainder of the drive to the restaurant having small talk and I still couldn’t stop my knee from bouncing, not only that but I’ve ran my hand nervously through my hair at least 20 times already. The driver finally informed us we arrived at the destination and I got out and helped Abby out as well.

“Harry! How’d you know I’ve wanted to try this restaurant?” Abby asked, completely surprised that I brought her to Jonah’s, a fancy restaurant right by the beach.

“I know things,” I smirked at her as we walked up the path to the door.

“I feel so under-dressed now!” Abby exclaimed as she shook of her denim jacket. I helped her out of it and held it in my free hand as I used my other hand to wrap around Abby’s waist and pull her into my side.

“Reservation for Styles,” I told the hostess once we walked in the door.

“Of course,” a young man, maybe my age, said before leading us through the restaurant all the way to the back dining room. He sat us by a table right next to the large window that over looked the ocean. As soon as I sat Abby down and then myself a waiter came over and asked us for our drink order, before Abby could answer though, I told the waiter to bring us a bottle of their best white wine.

“You know I love a good white wine,” Abby said to me as the waiter walked away. I felt her nudge my leg with her foot and it caused me to smile at her.

“That’s why I ordered it love,” I said while grabbing the hand she had resting on the table and lacing our fingers together before pressing a kiss to her knuckles.

“The view is so pretty,” she stated as she looked out the window at the beach, but I kept my eyes on her.

“Yeah it is,” I said, never letting my eyes leave her face. She turned to look at me and saw I was staring at her and I smiled when I saw the blush creep its way on her face.

“Stop,” she, shyfully, whispered.

“What love? I think you’re gorgeous,” I told her, stroking the back of her hand with my thumb. The waiter brought us the bottle of wine I asked and kindly poured us each a glass before leaving the bottle in a bucket of ice, next to the table.

“Harry, everything’s so expensive,” Abby said as she looked over the menu.

“I know, it’s okay, Abby. Get whatever you want,” I told her as I went to open the menu and my eyebrows immediately scrunched together because I had no idea what any of this was.

“None of this even looks remotely familiar to something I’ve had. They serve squid as an entrée?” Abby questioned with a look of disgust on her face. I let my head fall because I’d disappointed her and that’s the last thing I wanted to do tonight.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t think it’d be this complicated. Do you want to go somewhere else?” I asked her as I shamefully set my menu on the table and looked at her. I think she could tell I was upset because she smiled at me and took my hand in hers.

“Why are you trying to impress me tonight, Harry?” She softly spoke.

“I just wanted to give you a night from the fairytales, and I can’t even do that because I suck at picking restaurants,” I admitted to her and her smile fell.

“Just being with you, Harry, is a night from the fairytales. A fancy dinner won’t change how I feel about you,” she said as she played my fingers.

“I know. I just hardly do stuff like this for you and when I do I want it to be special, because you’re special to me,” I told her, smiling weakly at her.

“Harry, last time we did this, you asked me to be your girlfriend and that night something went wrong. Caroline showed up and tried to ruin our night. I think it’s safe to say we avoid these things for a reason,” she smiled at me, and I couldn’t help but smile at her again.

“So what do you say I pay for this bottle of wine and we get out of here and finish up our night with a walk on the beach, a bottle of wine, and get some cheap food?” I asked her and she smiled at me..

“Sounds perfect to me,” she said and I quickly waved down our waiter and asked for the check. I paid and Abby shoved the bottle into her purse and I dragged her out of the restaurant.

“Alright, let’s go find some food and then go have a fancy picnic on the beach,” I said while clapping my hands together. I took Abby’s hand after helping her put her jacket back on and we walked around until we found a food stand. I quickly paid for some burgers and chips, and we walked down the walkway to the beach to find a spot. Once we found a spot to sit at we realized we didn’t have a towel or blanket with us to sit on so I shrugged my blazer off and laid it down like a towel. I sat down and Abby followed, sitting in between my legs, so neither of us had to sit in the sand. We quickly dug into our burgers like barbarians and made small talk.

“Where do you see yourself in 10 years, Abby?” I asked her in between a mouthful of burger.

“Hm, I’d like to think I’m still doing photography, but I want to do more traveling with it. I’ve always wanted to be a photographer for National Geographic,” she told me and as I listened to her talk about her dream I couldn’t help but fall more in love with her. “I’d also like to do more charity work, like throwing benefit concerts. I had a lot of fun recording the music video for you guys and I think it’d be cool to do benefit concerts for different charities.”

“Would I be allowed to perform in these concerts?” I asked her and she turned her neck to look at me.

“Always,” She said before placing a kiss on my lips. “What about you? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”

“Hopefully I’d still be with the boys in One Direction, if not I’d probably do a solo gig like John Lennon. Then I could really channel the music I like to listen to, not saying I don’t love the music One Direction makes because I do, I just want to do something more my style. I’d also like to do more charity work, because I love doing it, visiting those kids in Africa changed my life,” I told her as I rested my chin on her shoulder and she leaned her head against mine.

“We could change the world together,” I muttered into her ear after sitting in silence for a while. I felt her smile at me as I took a sip of wine from the bottle. As I set the bottle down I brushed my leg and felt the box still sitting in my pocket.

“Can you believe we’ve been out here for almost an hour and we haven’t been spotted?” Abby voiced and I could hear the happiness in her voice.

“Yeah, it’s amazing isn’t it? Finally getting some real alone time,” I told her as I kissed her behind her ear. “Let’s go on a walk down the beach.” I stood up and held my hand out to hers to help her up, once she stood up I grabbed my jacket and pulled it on before taking Abby’s free hand and starting our trek down the beach.

“I could walk on the beach every day,” Abby said as we walked closer to the shore.

“It’s relaxing having your toes in the sand, huh?” I told her, sticking my free hand in my pocket, and wrapping it around the box. I pulled her into my side and placed her head against my chest as we continued to walk.

“Yeah, almost as relaxing as being in your arms,” she said and I couldn’t help but smile at her words. We were just about to walk into water when I stopped us, this was it. I bent down on one knee in front of her and looked up at her.

“Harry? What are you doing?” Abby asked with confusion written on her face.

“I just need to do one thing before we continue walking,” I told her and I pulled my hand out of my pocket, Abby’s mouth fell. “I need to take my shoes off!” I exclaimed with a smile on my face and she let out a sigh of relief. I took one shoe off and placed it to the side and as I went to take the second one off I pulled the box out of my hand, now was the time, on the beach with only one shoe on.

“Abigail Emilia Grimes, I know we agreed to wait until February to do this but I can’t wait any longer,” I said as opened my hand to reveal the box and Abby’s mouth dropped open and her hand flew to cover it. “I’ve loved you for the longest time now and I can’t see my future without you in it. You’ve changed me and made me into a better man, something I thank you for and everyone else does too. You notice the littlest things about me, like how my eyes change colors depending on what mood I’m in, how my lips twitch when I lie to you and you always know what’s going on in my mind. You’ve managed to keep me on my toes and I love that about you. You’re so caring and free-spirited that I wish I had those characteristics, but I think I was meant to be with you so I could obtain them in a different way. We’ve been through hell and back, but we’ve climbed over every interference that’s come our way. Sure some took longer than others, but here we are, together and happy. I never thought I’d find the one by being a kind person and helping a girl pick up her fallen items because she was having a bad day, but that day I met my soul mate. Life threw us a curveball when you got pregnant, but it obviously knew how much we wanted to be together and the miscarriage brought us together again. I told you to get an abortion for the wrong reasons, but you forgave me. That’s something else I love about you, you are always giving me second chances whether I deserve them or not. I got your families blessing a long time ago, because I wouldn’t do this if they weren’t happy for us, but they are. I consider your family, my family and I know my family considers you family already,” I continued to speak and as I opened my eyes I saw tears running down Abby’s face, except I didn’t know if they were happy or sad tears. “I was supposed to do this after a romantic dinner at a romantic restaurant but my poor judgment brought us here, on the beach with burgers,” I smiled at her but she still had her mouth covered. “I’m ready to spend forever with you, I’m ready to take care of you when you’re sick and I’m ready to pick you up when you fall. In Pittsburgh, on July 8th, was the day I realized I wanted to propose to you as soon as possible. You told me not to eat that late because I’d get sick during the show, and I did, but when you came to check on me you didn’t say ‘I told you so,’ right off the bat, you made sure I was feeling better before you did. What I’m trying to say here is…Abigail, will you marry me?” I asked, not breaking my eye contact from hers as I awaited an answer. Five minutes had passed, and still no answer, just more tears escaping her eyes, and I was still on one knee.

“Harry—“

AND THIS IS THE FINALE FOR PERFECT TO ME BUT NOT FOR ABBY AND HARRY.
Some info on the SEQUEL : I'm gonna get a few chapters written until I start posting it, so it'll be a few weeks until I do. So bear with me, lovelies. I'll probably make it short and sweet too, like 30 chapters? I don't know.
