Perfect To Me

See The Signs

“Oh my god, Harry!! That is vile!” I yelled as I covered my nose and rolled down the window to his car.

“What on earth are you talking about?” He joked as he rolled his window down as well.

“Your fart! How does one produce such a horrid smell!?” I exclaimed with laughter.

“I’m only human, love,” Harry told me as he grabbed my hand that was resting on the center console and brought it to his lips.

It was currently early afternoon and Harry and I were headed to Cheshire to visit his mum and step-dad. Harry had me pack an overnight bag so I’m assuming we will be staying the night with them as well. Makes sense because it’s a three hour drive from London and it’ll be late when we head back. Safety first. I was actually excited though because it’s been awhile since I’ve seen his family, and they’re so kind. I love visiting with them, I last saw them before Harry left for tour when we had a little going away gathering and I especially can’t wait to see Gemma.

“You’re my favorite human,” I told him with a grin on my face. He looked over at me and winked, the simple action making my heart flutter.

“Are you excited for a nice home cooked meal?” He asked me, eyes focused on the road in front of him.

“Oh, yes! You know it, babe.”

“You and your food. She’s making her special biscuits just for you, and they’ll be hot and fresh by the time we walk through the door,” Harry told me, squeezing my hand a little bit. Something I noticed he likes to do, I’ve always wondered why but never felt like asking because I don’t want him to stop.

“So, the Coldplay concert is tomorrow night, when were you going to tell me we were going?” I smugly asked him as I put my feet up on the dashboard.

“How do you know about that?” He asked, incredulously.

“A little leprechaun told me,” I told him, he looked over at me and busted out in laughter.

“That was a good one, love!” Harry said once he’d calmed down. “Niall is such a wanker. It was supposed to be a surprise,” Harry confessed.

“Well thank you. You didn’t have to get them,” I told him.

“I know, but I wanted to,” Harry told me, while again squeezing my hand.

“How come?”

“We haven’t gone on a date in a while, and I know you love Coldplay and I do too. So I thought it’d be perfect,” Harry told me and I couldn’t help but smile. He always wanted to go out and do stuff with me and I loved that about him. Other past boyfriends of mine always wanted to stay inside and have a movie night and cook dinner, but not Harry. He wanted to go out and show me off, and it may sound conceited but I love being shown off, it shows the boy cares for me.

“Well thank you,” I told him and leaned over the center console to place a kiss on his cheek, but the sneaky devil turned his head and quickly pressed his lips to mine. “Sneaky thing.”

The next two hours were spent with mild conversation flowing in between us and the light sounds of the radio playing in the background. We finally pulled into the driveway of Harry’s mum’s place and Anne, Joe and Gemma piled out of the house and approached the car. I went to Anne first and enveloped her in a hug, then I went to Joe and then I tightly embraced Gemma in a big bear hug.

“Hello love!” Gemma exclaimed as we rocked each other back and forth.

“Hey,” I said in between giggles at how excited the girl was to see me.

“How you been?” She asked me as she finally let me go.

“I’ve been great! What about you?” I asked as I turned to Harry and took my bag from his hands and pressed a kiss to his cheek in thanks.

“Absolutely wonderful! Now, let’s head to my bedroom because I need your help in picking an outfit out for tonight!” Gemma exclaimed as she handed my bag back to Harry and started to pull me inside the house and into her room.

“Where are you going tonight?” I asked her as I plopped down on her bed and Dusty, Harry’s cat, came and snuggled up on my lap.

“I’ve got a date!”

“Oh yeah? With that one lad?” I asked her.

“Tom? Yes,” Gemma replied as she ran into her closet to put on a potential outfit.

“Get comfy, Dusty. This might take a while,” I told the black and white cat, in which he simply meowed at me and started to purr as I scratched his ears.

“Heard that,” Gemma yelled from her spot in the closet.

“Good, you were meant to,” I said with a chuckle.

--Harry—

“So how are things with you and Abby?” My mum asked as we sat in the living room.

“Pretty good, we’re happy. We hit a rough patch the other day but things are okay now,” I, openly, told her.

“Yeah? What about?” She, being a mum, asked as she set the plate of biscuits on the coffee table.

“The tabloids,” I told my mum and she simply nodded her head knowingly.

“They are the devil aren’t they?” She asked and I nodded my head. We soon heard fits of laughter and I could distinctly hear Abby’s and it made me smile as I looked towards the stairs. “You’re in love with her aren’t you?”

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“Are you in love with Abby?” My mum repeated herself, slower this time.

“I love her, I know that much.”

“But are you IN love with her?” She pressed.

“What’s the difference?” I asked her.

“Being in love with someone means they are constantly on your mind, the simplest things remind you of the other, you’re always in contact with them, can’t imagine your life without them. You’d fight to death for that person if it meant they’d be yours forever, you just wouldn’t let them go,” Mum explained as she smiled, admiringly, on at her husband and my step father, Joe.

“Yeah but I’d do that with any girl, you know that mum,” I told her.

“No sweetheart. Do you get butterflies in your tummy when you think of her?” My mum pondered and I nodded my head in confirmation.

“You get light headed when she walks in the room?” Again, I nodded my head.

“What’s your favorite appearance of her?” My mum asked me as she poured me a cup of tea that was sitting on the coffee table. Easily, after not even a second it clicked.

“Definitely when she’s fixing to go to bed, especially after she has a long day of work. She throws her dark chocolate hair up into those messy buns girls do, her face has no sign of makeup and I can see her freckles all over her cheek bones and nose. She’ll have her big framed glasses on and they make her look sophisticated and so cute at the same time. Not to mention she likes to wear baggy clothes to bed, it’s like she’s getting ready to hide away from the rest of the world and just be at peace. To me, that’s when she’s at the top of her true beauty and I just really, at those moments, want to show her off to the world,” I confided in my mum and when I looked into my mum’s eyes I saw tears threatening to spill over.

“What’s the matter?” I asked her.

“My little baby is in love and growing up,” she said as she pulled me into a tight hug.

“I still don’t see how that proves I’m in love with her though mum,” I said.

“Harold, you want to show her off but you choose not to. You want her all to yourself because she makes you happy, you’re appreciative of her and, like I said, you can’t imagine life without her. You said you two got in a bit of a scuffle, yeah?” My mum asked and I replied by nodding my head so she could continue. “How much time passed before you two made up?”

“A little less than four hours,” I told her.

“Were you miserable?” She asked and I nodded my head once again. “Why?”

“Because I thought we were over and that I was never going to talk to her again. I was mad too because the tabloids made me out to be a cheater and it was like almost as if they were trying to tear away Abby and I’s bond just so they could get me to go back into my old ways and—“

“There! That’s it, your old ways; you aren’t like that anymore Harry. You’ve settled down, I hardly ever see you in the tabloids anymore. She’s kept you grounded and made you leave your old lifestyle,” My mum said. “Think about it, love. You’re in love with her, everyone can tell, it’s time you start seeing it too.” She finished with, and patted my knee before going into the kitchen to prepare for supper. After sitting on the couch for a few moments, dazed and confused, I decided to go see what the girls were up to in Gemma’s room. I ascended up the stairs and went into the second door on the left and saw Abby stretched out on Gemma’s bed with Dusty curled up on her chest, I smiled to myself and quietly crawled in beside her and rested my head next to hers. She turned to me and smiled at me before she could even look away I gently placed one of my hands on her cheek and guided her face closer to mine where our lips interlocked in a passionate, yet simple, kiss.

“What was that for?” She quietly asked as her ocean blue eyes stared into my emerald green ones.

“Just ‘cause,” I told her with a smile on face.

Yeah, I just might be in love with this girl, and oddly…I’m okay with that.
