Perfect To Me

Ditch The Whole Scene

I’d woken up from my nap and hopped in the shower, once I stepped out I wrapped myself in a fluffy white towel and walked into my bedroom to rifle through my suitcase for some nice clothing, which I knew I packed because my mother always told me as a child to pack nice clothes even if you think you won’t need them because you might just be wrong. After emptying all my contents out of my suitcase I finally found the burnt orange skirt that reminded me of the scales on a fish, I also pulled out a beige tank top. I was just about to pull on my bra and underwear when the sound of Coldplay’s ‘Green Eyes’ began blasting from my phone, a smile instantly took over my face as I heard the song and looked to see Harry’s face flashing across my cell phones screen. I slid my thumb across the screen to answer the phone and then brought it to my ear.

“Hey curly,” I said into the phone with a smile still adorning my face.

“Hello dear,’ Harry said, and I knew he was smiling too. “I’ve landed and I’m walking to baggage claim now.”

“Was your flight okay? Any screaming babies?” I asked him as I pressed the phone between my shoulder and my cheek so I could slide my underwear on and my strapless bra. I ended up struggling a little bit and losing my balance here and there, almost dropping the phone once or twice.

“There were two screaming babies and—babe what are you doing? I hear a lot of shuffling going on, on your end,” Harry distractedly said into the phone.

“I’m trying to get dressed and still talk to this loser British boy,” I told him as I slipped my skirt on over my freshly shaven legs.

“Get dressed? Where are you going?”

“I’m meeting up with Charlotte and Chris tonight for dinner and a night on the town,” I told Harry as I put him on speaker so I could slip my tank top on and tuck it into the skirt that I had pulled up to just below my belly button.

“Chris? The lad we met the day I got to Ohio?” Harry asked and I could hear a hint of jealousy in his voice.

“Yes. That would be him,” I told him as I walked over to the vanity and started to apply my makeup.

“Why are you hanging out with him?”

“Harry if I’m not mistaken it sounds like you’re a little jealous,” I teased the Brit as I applied my mascara and eye liner.

“I’m not jealous! How dare you,” Harry jokingly said into the phone and I couldn’t help but smile at the sound of his laughter, a sound I already missed.

“Har, I’m also going to be hanging out with Charlotte at the same time, my best friend who I’d much rather hang out with,” I reassured him as I slipped on some jewelry that went with my outfit.

“Yeah well no funny business young lady,” Harry sternly, but jokingly, said to me and I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me.

“I’m a one man woman, Styles.”

“Now that’s what I like to hear!” Harry exclaimed into the phone.

“You’re so silly,” I told him as I put my money, I.D and lip gloss into the gold clutch I would be bringing with me and slipped on my brown, suede, booted heels. I then looked at the clock in my room and noticed that if I didn’t get out the door in a few minutes I would be running late. “Harry I have to go or I’m going to be late.”

“Do you have to go?” He pleaded.

“Yes! I want to see my friends. Don’t be jealous,” I told him as I walked out of my room and shut the door behind me.

“I’m not jealous!”

“Well that’s too bad because I find it super attractive when guys get jealous,” I told him and waited for his response.

“In that case call me a jealous fool!” Harry said and I couldn’t help but laugh. “I miss your laugh, your smile and you,” Harry said into the phone and I felt the heat from the blush forming on my face.

“Aren’t you a charmer, but I miss you too.”

“I’m being serious Abs, be careful tonight please? I don’t trust guys when it comes to beautiful girls like you. I mean when you and I ran into one another at Embassy in London we ended up in bed together. But don’t worry I’m not calling you names, I’m just saying guys can be dirty pigs sometimes,” Harry warned me and I couldn’t help but find it attractive at how protective and jealous he was acting.

“Harold, I promise I will be careful and think of you and only you. I will text you all night long,” I promised him as I walked into the living room where my dad was seated with Gran. “Look I have to go but I’ll talk to you later yeah?”

“Yeah, just be careful Abs. Talk to you later,” Harry said followed by a click, signaling he hung up. I placed my phone in my clutch and plopped down on the couch, next to my dad.

“Where are you headed?” He asked once he took a look at my outfit.

“Going out to dinner with Charlotte and Chris,” I told him as I played with my skirt.

“Charlotte? How’s her father?” Dad asked.

“Not sure, I’ll ask for you tonight.”

“Is Harry okay with you going out with another guy, especially a guy that's Chris?” My dad asked as he read his book.

“Yes. He trusts me, dad.”

“Good, you’ve always been trustworthy. Be careful tonight, call me if you need me,” he said as I stood up and made my way to the front door.

“I will. Bye guys, I love you both.”

After a 45 minute drive to downtown I arrived at the restaurant I was meeting the other two at and saw I was the first one here which is weird because normally I’m last to show up. The hostess kindly led me over to a table set for three people and excused herself. As I sat there waiting on my friends to show up I decided to text Harry.

To: Harry
Miss you, loverboy.

Before I sent him the text I chose to attach a photo, I tapped the button that allowed me to use the frontal camera and I puckered my lips at the camera and shut my eyes, successfully making an intense, yet silly, kissy face at the camera. I deemed it acceptable to send because I really didn’t care if it was a bit loco, because I knew Harry would like that. Not even a minute later I got a reply from the boy.

From: Harry
I better be the only one receiving that look tonight, princess.

I read over and saw he attached his own kissy faced picture and I couldn’t help but smile as I saved the photo to my camera roll. I sent back a reply and when I put my phone away Charlotte walked up to the table wearing a sparkly black dress with teal heels, she looked flawless!

“Hey, Chris not here yet?” Charlotte asked as she took the seat next to me.

“Nope, just you and I so far.”

“Good, just the way I like things to be, only you and me,” Charlotte joked as she wiggled her eyebrows at me.

“You’re so weird!”

“This is odd. Usually you and I are the last ones anywhere,” Charlotte mindlessly said, I laughed because she was right. Our waitress came over to our table and took our drink orders and just as she walked away Chris walked up to the table, out of breath.

“Hey girls! Sorry I’m late, the person taking over for me, to do the night shift, was running late so I had to stay until she got there,” Chris breathed out as he sat down and took a long gulp of the water glass sitting in front of him.

“Did you run here from the suburbs or something?” Charlotte asked with a sound of disgust in her voice and I kicked her under the table.

“And you would think I would miss your remarks,” Chris joked to Charlotte, which only made Charlotte laugh and pull the man sitting across from her into a hug.

“So Abby where’s the boyfriend?” Chris asked as he scanned over the menu.

“He had to leave today for Connecticut,” I told him as I too scanned over the menu.

“What’s in Connecticut?” Charlotte asked with distaste in her voice.

“The first night of his North American tour is there,” I told her as if she should have known.

“Oh that’s right, he’s in that band Wand Erection or whatever?” Chris said as he set down his menu, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Here we go.

“One Direction,” I corrected him.

“Same thing,” Chris said while he waved it off. “You know I never thought you’d date a famous person Abby, that’s so upper class of you.”

“What’s that supposed to mean, Chris?” I snarled at him, and I could see Charlotte squirm in her seat at the tension between Chris and me.

“I’m gonna run to the bathroom really quick,” Charlotte said, excusing herself from the table. I waited until she was out of earshot to speak to Chris.

“What the hell, Chris!” I exclaimed at him, trying to keep my voice low so I didn’t bring attention to myself.

“What Abby?”

“That’s so upper class of you Abby, a famous person,” I mocked him with hatred in my voice.

“Well it is! That’s someone your parents would just love!” Chris spat at me over the table.

“You’re just mad that my parents hated you when we dated!” I said to him, keeping my voice low once again.

“Does Harry even know about our history?” Chris smugly said while he crossed his arms over his chest.

“No. All he knows is that you took my virginity when I was in high school and every so often we would hook up, and that’s all he needs to know,” I firmly told Chris.

“Abby! What the fuck, we dated for two years and all the man needs to know is that we hooked up every so often? Are you kidding me?” Chris asked in disbelief.

“Let’s just say it was the worst two years of my life,” I angrily told him.

“I’m sorry okay, I’m sorry with the way things ended! I fucked up, how many times do I have to tell you that? I was drunk and I made a mistake!” Chris said and people in the restaurant started to stare at us.

“A mistake that repeated itself six times Chris, you cheated on me six times! I was completely committed to the relationship and I thought you were too, and then I come back from doing my job interview in London early to find you in bed with some slutty ginger!” I yelled at him, completely fed up with his existence.

“Well you’ve seemed to have moved on,” Chris sadly said.

“That’s because I have Chris. I’m with Harry now and I really like him, he’s a lot better than you. I’m over you, but yeah I’m still angry at you for what you did. I thought I could be your friend but I don’t think I can at this point,” I told him as I threw my napkin down on the table and went to stand up.

“Where are you going?” He asked, anger evident in his voice.

“To get Charlotte and leave.”

“Why?” He asked. Is he stupid?

“Because, I don’t want to look at you right now,” I told him as I grabbed my clutch along with Charlotte’s clutch. I walked to the ladies’ room and saw Charlotte sitting on a bench outside of the restroom playing on her phone.

“Hey Hun, are you okay?” Charlotte asked once I was standing in front of her.

“Let’s go get some alcohol in our systems,” I told her and she stood up, looping her arm with mine.

“Couldn’t have said it better myself,” Charlotte said as she, literally, dragged me out of the restaurant we were in and over to the club one block away. “Ready to get white girl wasted and forget that asshole?”

“Okay Char, I don’t wanna get super drunk, I just want a drink or two then go home and call Harry,” I told her as we waited in the short line to get into the club.

“Are you going to tell him?”

“Tell him what?” I asked her, genuinely confused.

“About your two years with that low life of a jackass we just got done seeing?”

“Oh, tell him that,” I said as we moved up the line.

“Yeah. Why haven’t you told him?”

“Because, he’s already jealous over the fact that he took my virginity, can you imagine how he would react if he found out I dated him for two years?” I exasperated to her.

“Look bitch, I’ve known you for sixteen and a half years and I’ve always told you my opinion of everything and nothing will change that so here we go. Tell Harry you dated Chris for two years and do it now before he finds out later on and shit hits the fan. Harry’s good for you and I don’t wanna see you mess it up. I mean he’s a once in a lifetime type of guy and I can see how happy he makes you and how much you like him, shit you probably love him and just haven’t realized it yet. I haven’t seen you this happy since like ever and Harry deserves to know the truth, so tell him,” Charlotte confided in me, being the best friend she’s always been.

“You’re right,” I told her, again shifting with the line.

“I know I am. Look, I can see how much you two care about one another and I’ve only seen you two together once, but the way you two look at one another it’s like it’s only you two and no one else is around. I would kill to have that kind of relationship and reaction from Jake. I’ve seen you two going to romantic places in London all over the internet, that’s something I’d kill for from Jake but no his version of being romantic is taking me to Olive Garden.”

“I get it Char, I like Harry a lot and I shouldn’t ruin it by leaving out information about my past,” I told her as we showed the body guards our I.D’s, mine being a very realistic fake I.D apart from Charlotte’s real one, seeing as she's a few months older than me and already twenty-one. As soon as we stepped into the club the loud music filled our ears and we were surrounded by dancing bodies.

“Let’s leave all the bad out there and enjoy ourselves tonight. Fake lesbian lovers?” Charlotte asked as she bumped her hip with mine.

“Fake lesbian lovers,” I told her as I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and dragged her over to the bar where we ordered two cranberry vodkas.

“So how is your love life going with Jake?” I asked her as I took a seat on one of the open bar stools.

“Honestly? It sucks and I’m miserable. We never do anything anymore and we haven’t had sex in months! It’s driving me up a wall, and he’s such a slob, I can’t stand it Abs!” Charlotte complained to me as she dramatically rested her head on my shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Char. But if you’re unhappy then leave,” I told her and she shot up like a mole in whack-a-mole.

“Are you kidding? I don’t want to die alone with fifty cats Abs!” Charlotte said and I couldn’t help but laugh at her.

“Char, you’re going to be living in London in the fall, you will meet plenty of awesome, British guys.”

“Yeah? Or you could just make things easy and introduce me to one of the boys in Harry’s band,” Charlotte joked as she poked me with her elbow and wiggled her eyebrows.

“Well there is one single one,” I told her as I took the last sip of my drink and ordered another.

“Is it the blonde, Irish one that looks like a Ferby? You know how much I used to love Ferby’s when I was growing up!” Charlotte exclaimed as she spun around on the bar stool like a child.

“Actually…yes. Niall is the only single one, which is weird because I didn’t think you were that obsessed with Harry’s band,” I strangely told her and she gave me the evil glare before finishing off her drink.

“What can I say I’m a closet directioner! But seriously, do you think you could introduce me to him? I think he’s so adorable and funny,” Charlotte begged me.

“I don’t see why not, I mean you are my best friend and Niall is practically my best friend in London, so it’s like meant to be right?” I said to her and the excitement that lit up her eyes frightened me.

“Seriously? You’d do that!?” She asked me as she shook me by my shoulders.

“Yeah, you’re my best friend I’d do anything for you Char,” I told her as I hugged her and she squeezed the living daylight out of me.

“What do you say we get out of here? You know I’ve always hated getting dressed up and going out to places that have too many people, I just wanna be in sweatpants right now. In plus on our way back we can stop by a store, buy some wine and go have a girls’ night at Gran’s house! Just like old times,” Charlotte offered once we released from the hug.

“Depends, can I call Harry once we get back?” I asked and she nodded her head enthusiastically.

“Of course! You still have to tell him about Chris!” Charlotte said as she hopped off the bar stool and dragged me out of the bar and back to our cars where we would have a long night of fun ahead of us.

“I’ve missed you!” I told her once we stepped outside.

“I’ve missed you too, slutface,” Charlotte said as she pulled me into another hug before we both went to our respected vehicles and went on our merry way.
