The Happiest Place On Earth
Chapter 41: Decisions
"Harry, we need to get going. The show's about to start." Niall walked into the room that Kaylani and him were currently occupying and saw the shattered look on each of their faces and the tear streaks on their cheeks. As much as he didn't want to, he had to get Harry backstage. Their show was going to start in a little under ten minutes and they needed Harry, if they didn't he would have come back to get him at the last possible second.
Harry took a deep breath before answering Niall without removing his eyes from Kaylani's, "I'll be there in a minute."
Niall looked between the two one final time before closing the door and standing outside of it. He knew he should stand by the door just to make sure Harry didn't take too long. Whatever conversation he was having with Kaylani was an unpleasant one and he didn't even want to know what was going to happen. All he knew was that if they didn't work it out soon the crowd would most likely notice that something was off with Harry and would blame Kaylani for it, then she'd get more hate on Twitter and Tumblr and it would all just end badly.
"Go, Harry. You have a show to do." Breaking eye contact with him, Kaylani looked at the floor as she spoke in a soft voice. She was too scared to speak any louder in case her voice gave out or it started another argument. She was too tired to argue again and she was emotionally drained.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me where we stand. If I go on that stage in this state everyone will notice and automatically assume the worst. I need to know." Harry took two long strides towards Kaylani's body before tilting her chin up with his forefinger. He was secretly hoping that she would tell him everything was okay, but in the back of his mind he knew this was just delaying the inevitable. Even if they were okay when he went on stage, he would still have to talk to her after the show.
Lifting her head up to meet his, Kaylani plessed a gentle kiss to Harry's lips. She felt his body immediately relax in her hands, but she pulled away after a few seconds, "Go."
Knowing he wouldn't get an answer out of her any time soon, Harry accepted her kiss and pressed his lips to hers one more time before walking out of the door to meet Niall. He hated the way their kiss felt like a goodbye kiss.
"Everything alright mate?" Niall couldn't hide his concern for his best friend as he took in the sight of him. His eyes were red and swimming with emotion.
Harry didn't trust his voice so he simply nodded his head as he used the back of his hand to wipe his face of any remaining tears.
Without another word Harry and Niall made their way to where the rest of the boys were backstage. Each one of them noticed the traces of red that rimmed his eyes but decided against commenting on it when they saw Niall signaling for them to leave it alone.
With a pat on the back from each boy, they did their usual group chant before standing behind their designated areas so they could start the show. Harry knew it was going to be a long show, but he needed to put on a happy facade if he wanted people to believe that everything was fine even though he was broken inside.
-------------------------------------------
Kaylani let her body fall against the couch in the room once Harry left to go perform. She always watched the boys perform but at the moment she couldn't do anything but curl up into a ball and feel the weight of her impending doom weigh down on her chest.
She had no idea what to do. She didn't want to end things with Harry, but she would be lying if she said she would rather have Ryan breathing down her neck about their relationship. She would rather save them both from the heartache.
Almost as if he knew she was talking about him, Ryan called Kaylani's cell phone at that exact moment. She didn't want to answer it but she knew that ignoring it would only make it worse.
"Hello?" Ryan could hear the way Kaylani's voice sounded as if she had just been crying and he immediately felt concerned for her. He knew he shouldn't have called her but now he was glad he did. If Harry did something to make her cry he would kill him.
"Why are you crying?" Kaylani couldn't help but feel her heart flutter at Ryan's question. She would be lying if she said she didn't miss the way he used to be - kind and loving.
"What do you want, Ryan?" Kaylani could feel the exhaustion taking over her body and all she wanted to do was sleep.
"I just called to see how things were. I miss you."
Kaylani felt her heart shatter at Ryan's confession. Her life was becoming a soap opera. "I'm really tired and the boys are on stage. I'll talk to you when I get back to California."
Without waiting for a response, Kaylani hung up her phone before resting it on the couch behind her. As much as she wanted to watch the boys she knew she wouldn't be able to see the destroyed look on Harry's face without wanting to break down herself. Kaylani let her body relax into the couch as the exhaustion took over her body before finally falling asleep.
------------------------------------
As the boys walked off stage, Harry couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness as he realized Kaylani wasn't standing side stage like he hoped she would be. He should have figured that after their fight she wouldn't want to watch, but he was still hoping she might.
Walking into the room that they had their disagreement in, Harry allowed a small smile to take over his features as he took in the sight of a sleeping Kaylani. No matter how many disagreements they would get in, he would always have a soft spot for her.
Picking her body up bridal style, Harry carried her throughout the halls of the arena until he reached the tour bus. He knew the screams from the fans outside might wake her up but he didn't care, he just wanted to get her under her duvet so she could sleep peacefully. She had been under a ton of stress lately and she deserved all the sleep she could get.
The minute they walked outside the screams from the fans caused Kaylani to stir in her sleep. She instantly realized someone was carrying her and couldn't help but feel her heart swell when she inhaled the familiar smell she loved.
"Harry?"
"Don't worry love, I'm here. Go back to sleep, I got you." Harry let his grip tighten on the sleeping girl in his arms that he loved and never wanted to lose, no matter the cost. "I've always got you."
