Harry’s POV:
High school. The place where kids from grades nine through twelve spent the prime of their life rotting in the classrooms as the teacher’s droned on about stuff that the majority of them wouldn’t even use in the real world. Sure, the pythagorean theorem may come in handy for an architect, but that’s not what I was, I was an athlete, a star athlete at that.
My soccer career started when I could walk, my dad constantly putting the ball in front of me and encouraging me to kick it with as much strength as I could muster. He taught me all I knew and I wanted nothing more than to follow in his footsteps and attend Winthrop University just like he did. It’s been six years since he died, and everyday I miss him a little more.
The cafeteria was flooded with the usual suspects, everyone branching off to join their cliques. The nerds with the nerds, the goths with the goths, the hipsters with the hipsters and so on. My eyes scanned the crowded cafeteria looking for my group of friends, a mix of the jocks and some of their girlfriends. Almost immediately I found them, two open seats next to Niall waiting for my arrival.
“Where’s Tay?” My question sparked everyone’s interest because usually, Taylor, my girlfriend, was with me, but this morning she left me a message not to pick her up for school because she’d be late. I thought for sure she’d have made it to school by lunch but by the looks of it she hadn’t yet.
Haley spoke up first, “Oh, she’s on her way she should be here any min- speak of the devil.”
She rounded the corner in her usual rushing manner, smiling widely once she spotted me, long brown hair flowing behind her pushed back by a headband. Her excitement was evident, though I didn’t know why she was so excited, I mean, we were just at school, but then again, you never know with her.
“Hi, sorry I’m late. I, uh, had a dentist appointment.”
Soft lips were pressed to my cheek as she sat down beside me, taking her place as I rested my arm on the back of her chair. I pulled her closer to me, getting a whiff of her signature perfume, wrapping my arms around her small waist, her arms instantly wrapping around my neck.
“Hey there handsome.” She pecked my lips gently, smiling brightly as usual. Her green eyes full of excitement making me wonder what had gotten her that way.
“Hi beautiful.”
The rest of our table was in a chorus of puking noises on the account of our interaction, I flicked them off as I continued to look at the beautiful girl in my lap. Some say I was whipped as all get out, and that was true to an extent, but I really just loved her, a lot. Four years ago this girl stole my heart and has kept it safe ever since.
“So, now that you two are done cooing to each other, I have a party announcement!” Haley announced, smirking a bit. She was Taylor’s best friend, and the complete opposite of her but they obviously had something in common because they were inseparable. Haley was a cool girl, she brought a nice chill vibe to our usually dramatic group and she always knew where the best parties were.
“So you know my brother’s girlfriend Quinn? Well, she’s in a sorority at Winthrop and they’re having a huge frat party this weekend at the Kappa Sigma house, and guess who got us invited.” We all smiled, knowing the answer, Haley had all the connections, with her brother being a junior at Winthrop and all.
“Haley! My kind of woman!” Niall shouted, throwing an arm on the back of her chair. I noticed her blush as he did so, making me chuckle at her obvious crush on Niall.
“So, it’s this Friday night. Be ready to party bitches.”
*
Taylor and I had been studying for the past hour for the upcoming biology test, well, she was studying it and I was studying her. She had been thinking hard, and I didn’t think it was about biology. A crease had formed between her brows, her teeth gnawing at the skin on her lip, and I knew she was nervous about something. Throughout our entire relationship, I’d never known her to not wear her emotions, she was absolute shit at hiding them from me which I was silently thankful for.
“Alright, studying is over.” I announced shutting our books and shoving them off the bed onto the floor. “What’s wrong baby?”
She sighed, looking down at her hands folded in her lap. “I don’t know if I want to go to the party. I just, it’s not really my scene. I just, I don’t know maybe you guys should just go without me.”
I pulled her close to my chest, leaning back on the bed and wrapping an arm securely around her waist. Her fingers played with the cross on my chain as I kissed the top of her head catching a whiff of her strawberry-scented shampoo. She had never been one for parties, she only tolerated them for my sake and to an extent I felt a little guilty but then again, she always managed to have a good time anyways. Even when she didn’t want to go, I refused to go without her.
“I’m not going to that party without you.”
“But Harry I want you to have fun and I know if I go all I’ll be doing is clinging to you and following you like a lost puppy and I know that has to get annoying.”
“The only way I’m going to have fun is if you’re there.”
“But-”
“It’s settled, you’re going and you’re going to have fun.”
*
Taylor’s POV:
Somehow, Harry had convinced me to attend the party with him. It’s not that I didn’t like parties, I did, but when I knew the people attending. I just felt awkward in huge social events especially when half the attendees were drunk off their asses and couldn’t compose a sentence that made the least bit of sense. Harry being the social butterfly he is, is always the life of the party, no matter where he goes or whose party it was. People just seemed to be drawn to him, like they were moths and he was the lamp. Lame analogy, I know, but that’s the way I saw it.
The car ride to the party was filled with Harry and Niall’s laughter as they joked back and forth, I sat in the passenger seat almost dreading the party and looking at the passing cars. My anxiety level was rising gradually as we entered the campus square. Everything was closed for the night, only the party-goers roaming the streets of Winthrop University’s campus in hopes of getting hammered. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was what I had in store for me the next fall with Harry. Would he want to go out every night and party until the break of dawn, only to regret it the next morning with a horrendous hangover? No doubt I would be the one there to take care of him.
Maybe he wouldn’t though, maybe he’d want to spend his nights cuddled up with me, watching a romantic comedy, stuffing our faces with comfort foods. Or possibly keeping his head in the game, making sure he doesn’t go too far with the partying and keeping his grades up to par for fear of his spot on the team being taken away.
Thoughts consumed me and I wanted desperately to push them all away with a fattening, carb-loaded cheese calzone from Tino’s and a cuddle from Harry, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen tonight.
The laughter had died down and Harry’s hand grasped mine, threading his long fingers in between mine, fitting perfectly, like puzzle pieces. I smiled at him as he brought our joined hands up to his lips to kiss my knuckles gently, my nerves easing slightly. I could sense that he felt the tiniest bit of guilt for dragging me out here, but I knew as soon as he got there and had a beer or two, that guilt would be gone. In all honesty, I was okay with that.
Winthrop University’s campus was beautiful, everything looked antique and timeless. Harry loved it here and couldn’t wait to attend the next fall on full soccer scholarship. The university wanted him bad and he took the offer without hesitation. To say I was proud was an understatement, he’d worked his ass off to get where he was. It was a dream of his and he was a legacy here. His father and grandfather both played here, and Harry wanted nothing more than to do the same.
Cars were lining the street as we pulled up to the Kappa Sigma house, people were scattered in the front yard, red plastic cups in hand. I could tell some of them were already drunk as they stumbled around gripping the closest thing to them to balance themselves. Their eyes glanced in our direction briefly before returning back to their companion. The smell emitting from the house was something else— a mix of alcohol, sweat, and testosterone. It was Harry’s kind of party.
My fingers laced through Harry’s as we walked up the stone path to the front door, his tall stature providing me protection from the drunkards coming from all directions. I practically curled myself against him as a few sorority girls glanced his way, their eyes lighting up at the sight of my tall, curly-haired boy that was fresh meat for them. If I knew one thing about Harry Styles, it was that I could trust him. The sorority girls were a different story.
“I’ll go get us some drinks, Niall, come with me?”
The boys left us to fend for ourselves, my arm instantly looping through Haley’s as my awkwardness started to show. I wasn’t normally an awkward person, I really wasn’t, but something about big crowds of unfamiliar faces brought it out in me. It was like I constantly felt them judging my every move even though they knew nothing about me.
"Keep an eye on blondie over there," Haley pointed to a platinum blonde with a too short black skirt and boobs that were bigger than my head, "She’s one of Quinn’s friends who’s taken an interest in your boy toy."
I eyed her skeptically, her spray-tanned skin looking more traffic-cone orange than bronzed, especially against her white top. Thankfully, I knew Harry’s type, and she was definitely the furthest thing from it.
Sorority girls dressed in outfits that left little to the imagination hung on every guy there, who didn’t seem to mind. I noticed Haley’s brother Spencer wrapped in a pretty redhead, who I assumed was Quinn. She had legs for days and fair skin, not a freckle in sight, her dark red hair flowed behind her as she walked looking more like a ginger goddess than anything else. Spencer, well, he was a character. He used to be one of those guys who was enthralled by anything Star Wars, which wasn’t bad(even though I didn’t prefer the movies myself), and he was the captain of the astronomy and chess clubs in high school. I hadn’t seen him since his graduation three years ago, and by the looks of it, he’d changed. A lot.
“Wow, your brother is doing well for himself after all.”
Haley chuckled, “Well you know after high school he realized that being captain of the chess club and the astronomy club wasn’t going to get him laid, hence the changes.”
“Alright, let’s check out the par-tay.” Niall stated, throwing a glance at Haley making her smile sheepishly.
“Okay you two, just go fuck already!” Harry yelled as he hooked an arm around my neck pulling my close to him and taking a sip from his bottle of Bud.
“I’m up for it.” Niall smirked, looking at Haley and smacking her backside.
“Maybe if you’re lucky Horan.”
“Well, I have Irish blood you know.” He noted, following after her like a lost puppy making me giggle.
“Tell me if you get too uncomfortable and we’ll leave.” I smiled up at Harry, he was always looking out for me and making sure I was always comfortable. It was one of the things I loved about him— his compassion for others was admirable.
“Harry, I want you to have fun okay? So please do that for me, have fun, but not too much, I still have to get your ass home.”
He chuckled, leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss to my lips before pressing one to my forehead. “But I mean it, if you want to go home, just say so.”
*
Throughout the party, I had stayed glued to Harry’s side as he socialized, just as I predicted. All the people that we came across were just the same as the last; living off their parent’s money, partying their way through college, and barely trying to pass any of their classes. Some of them making me wonder just how they got accepted into the university.
Harry had thankfully kept his drinking to a minimum, stopping at two beers, but he never went overboard, he knew his limit and he didn’t push it. I had opted for just one Mike’s Hard Lemonade, not wanting any of the unfamiliar people to see me at my worst. When I was drunk, I was a hot mess and destined for disaster.
Harry learned that the hard way the night of our junior prom. I had only wanted one shot of Grey Goose, but one turned into two and two turned into eight. By the end of the night, I was an utter disaster. Harry couldn’t even take me home that night, I ended up crashing at his house where his mother was heaps more understanding than mine would have been claiming “You’re young, it’s prom night, why not enjoy it?”
Somehow, Harry and I, well mostly Harry, had ended up talking to Blondie. Her eyes never left him, basically reveling in the fact that he was talking to her. Laughter filled the small space between the three of us, I had obviously missed a joke(probably another one of Harry’s cheesy knock, knock jokes that he was notorious for). Her orange hand gripped his bicep and anger pulsed in my veins, no one but me touched his biceps like that. No one.
Maybe I was overreacting, actually, I knew I was just by the look of complete disinterest on Harry’s face. He was merely tolerating their conversation.
"So Harry, are you single?"
Was she fucking serious? I was standing right beside him, practically draping myself on him. What was I? A damn lamp?
Blondie paid no mind to me and waited for Harry’s response. His eyes were wide, obviously thinking the same thing I was.
"Um, I’ve already introduced you to my girlfriend, Taylor.” His arm tightened around my waist, assuring me that he was trying to be rid of her. “Um, we’re gonna go, we have somewhere to be.
Harry pulled me into the kitchen, where thankfully no one was residing. He pulled me into his chest, lowering his face down to my ear.
“What do you say we get out of here? Go down to the lake, have a few, and relive homecoming night all over again?” HIs lips pressed a kiss just below my ear, making me hum in response. For Harry, that’s all he needed for an agreement. He threaded his long fingers in mine and led me back out to the car, stopping to let Niall and Haley know we were heading out, not that they cared. The two were in the midst of making a break for the upstairs bedrooms until we caught them and I smiled knowingly at Haley who smirked at me in return.
Harry was busy gawking at the two while I pulled on his hand impatiently. “Come on lover boy.”
*
Blankets and pillows filled the bed of Harry’s truck indicating that he had been planning this all along. Romance was Harry Styles’ specialty. The boy was a hopeless romantic and loved to show off his thoughtfulness. Even on Valentine’s Day, the day I absolutely loathed even when I got together with Harry, was always made special by him. He was the most thoughtful person I’d ever met.
We laid in the middle of all of the blankets, cuddled together as the fall night’s chill became more evident. My head was laid on his chest, close to his heart, as my fingers played with the cross on the chain around his neck. I could hear his heartbeat, it had become more like a sweet melody to me over the years. The comfort it brought me was a large supply.
“Do you remember the first time we met?” He asked, rubbing circles on my shoulder blade.
I laughed a bit, “Of course I do, it was at camp, the Summer before Freshman year. You hit me with the volleyball and broke my nose.”
“I did not! That was Louis!”
“You are a big fat liar! It was totally you and you totally planned it!”
He let out the all-too-familiar spontaneous cackle that never failed to make me giggle. “Well I didn’t plan on giving you a broken nose.”
“So you admit planning to hit me then!” I playfully smacked his chest, giggling as I settled back into his warm embrace.
Our laughter died down and a comfortable silence engulfed us. A slight breeze blew through the trees as we laid there, his arm tightened around me, pulling me closer.
“Do you remember the first time I brought you out here?”
I looked up at him and smiled remembering that night so perfectly. “It was the night of the big homecoming football game and I had just gotten crowned queen. We went to the dance for five minutes before you convinced me that there was something completely better we could be doing than standing around in the school gym and drove me here where you had blankets and pillows filling the bed of your truck, just like now. We laid there and talked for hours on end, completely disregarding curfews. We ended up staying here all night.”
“That was also the first time we made love.”
My heart leapt, that night was more than perfect. Never in a million years had I ever imagined it to be as amazing as it was. If I could, I’d relive it every day of my life.
Our lips attached in an urgent, but passionate kiss, molding together perfectly. Tongues danced in each other’s mouths as Harry rolled himself on top of me. Hands roamed my clothed body and I felt the sparks I always had from the beginning. His faint cologne that lingered on his skin invaded my senses and my hands tangled in his tousled curls.
"I’m going to make love to you all night long." Harry whispered breathlessly as we broke before returning his lips to mine.
Our shirts were stripped from our bodies in no time, the chilly air causing goosebumps to rise on my skin. Harry pulled a comforter over us to protect us from the chill before we shimmied free from the rest of our clothes.
Skin on skin, lips on lips, we were completely tangled in each other.
Soft lips traveled from my lips to my cheek, along my jawline, and down my neck leaving feather-light kisses making me sigh in contentment. My breasts were cupped in his large hands as he massaged them gently before pressing a chaste kiss to the skin in the valley between them. His hands continued roaming my now bare body, appreciating every curve I had. Harry knew how to make me feel beautiful and never failed to.
"You are so beautiful."
His now dark green eyes were full of lust and love for me. The way he looked at me made me feel like the only girl in the world, like I was his whole world.
His eyes were focused solely on me as he thrusted into me, making me gasp before our lips reconnected. His thrusts were slow and steady, savoring our time together. I was completely filled and never had I felt so good.
Soft moans escaped from between my lips as he sped up slightly, hitting thatspot that he never failed to find. Euphoria was slowly taking over my entirety, the starry night and gentle sounds of the waterfall just a short distance away only added to my pleasure.
My hands gripped his biceps, nails digging into the skin as they bulged from holding his weight above me. I looked at the beautiful boy above me, completely absorbed in him. His curls that had been pushed up and away from his forehead were now dangling in his face. Our bodies were beginning to become clammy, the friction between us increasing rapidly as Harry lowered himself closer to me. The new angle making my moan loudly.
His forearms were rested on each side of my head, my arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him as close as humanly possible.
"I love you so much." He moaned, his high nearing.
My lips met his in a brief kiss before breaking when he hit my spot repeatedly. My moans increased and grew louder, the familiar feeling in my lower abdomen coming rapidly, my climax nearing just as fast. With one final thrust, I was done. My eyes rolled back and I clung to Harry, finding my release.
He continued to rock into me, trying to find his own release. Soon, he was spilling into the condom and moaning my name. Never, had my name sounded so amazing.
Our breathing was intermingling, our faces were mere inches apart as we took in each other. His eyes were beginning to return to the beautiful green and a smile was beginning to pull at the ends of his mouth. My finger reached up to poke a dimple as I grinned madly. His fingers brushed hair from my clammy forehead, dropping a lingering kiss to the skin. This was my favorite part of love making— the comfortable silence and gentle touches. These were the times where I felt most in love with him and I knew that he was my one. He was always so passionate and tender in his touches and kisses and I never felt more loved or beautiful. Harry knew exactly what to do to get me to the point of pure bliss. He was my bliss.
"I love you." He whispered against my lips, dropping a tender kiss to the corner of my mouth.
My hands cupped his face, pulling it up so I could mold my lips to his. “I love you.”
*
The next few days were spent cramming for upcoming tests with Harry. Well, he was cramming and I was merely skimming over the material that I’d already had memorized days prior. Harry had a tendency to procrastinate no matter the level of importance of the task at hand. But the thing about Harry was, he liked to live his life and not take anything too seriously. In a way, I admired him for that, wishing I could look at it the same way he did.
All my life, I was told that good grades led to good opportunities. My family has never forced anything on me but simply encouraged me to do what’s best for myself. My father was in sports medicine and owned his own practice, he built his business with my mother after they had graduated college. They always told me that when an opportunity arose, that I should at least consider all of the pros and cons. When it came to college, Winthrop had more cons than pros for me, but I’d never tell Harry that.
*
"Taylor! Honey! Wake up!" My mother’s chipper voice rang through my ears in what I assumed was the early hours of the morning but when I checked my clock, it read 12:45 PM. I couldn’t help but sense that something was up, something good. By the look on her face, my assumptions were proven correct. “They called.”
I scrambled to sit up in bed as she sat on the edge, facing me. Her forest-green eyes that mirrored my own were alight with excitement and the smile she wore was something I’d only seen once before, when my older brother got into her alma mater, Vanderbilt University.
This could only mean one thing, it was my turn.
