You Fill my Heart
Her mom wasn't joking about being tired. Ever since her doctor's appointment Gray slept anytime she could. It felt like waking up and running right into a brick wall everyday of your life. At least she made it to the trip into Richmond without completely losing her mind. Mila left the day after their meltdown without staying a word to her. Even having them both in the same arena seemed to be too much, the tension was everywhere. Gray wondered if there would ever be a point where they could see eye to eye again. She still had a hard time understanding why their fight even started and wished she could talk to her. Mila was her own woman though, Gray knew better then to speak to her if she wasn't ready. Time, they needed time. Unfortunately Gray didn't have much of that. Her eleven week appointment was tomorrow, before the boy's concert. Then they jetted off to Columbus and the big stop in New York. The guys had three shows alone at Madison Square Garden, multiple interviews and a guest spot on The Today show. It would be bouncing from one thing to another, but Gray was up for the challenge."Actually yes, it's true. Gray and I are engaged. And.. we are expecting also." Gray felt the blood drain from her face, she wondered if this was actually real life or just a dream. Liam just told the whole crowd, plus the entire world that she was knocked up with his illegitimate love child. Gray grabbed onto Perrie's arm, everything was starting to dance along her eyes. Gray felt her body sway in shock, closing her eyes and going with the motions.
"Gray, Gray Goose get your ass up," Louis shouted from the front of the bus. Gray stirred, trying to exactly figure out where she was. Last thing she remembered was eating gummy bears with Niall hours ago. She sat up and stretched before joining the rest in the front.
"What do you want," she yawned another time before sliding into the booth next to Perrie.
"To stare at your round belly wondering if your child going to look ugly like Liam," Louis simply said. Liam slapped him in the arm at the same time Perrie threw a straw at him.
"Guess that means 'Louis' is out of the running for names," Gray joked to him.
"I still stay Rebecca," Perrie chimed in from the side. That name was out for Gray, but she didn't have the heart to tell her that.
"What about Susana, that's popular." Gray shook her head no, that was also definitely out.
"You need a G name.. like Gretchen," Harry said. Gray axed that one too. She had her own ideas for names, but that was something Liam and her would talk about later.
"You can take names later, time to go." Liam quipped at them. The big bus had just pulled into the arena parking lot in Richmond for tonight's show. The whole group quickly walked into the stadium briefly waving to the fans outside.
"Alright lads, let's go," Louis said wrangling them all up. Gray looked at her watch. It was only ten in the morning, usually they sat around for a couple of hours before doing anything.
"What's going on," Gray asked. Liam walked over with a huge smile on his face.
"We are doing an early rehearsal so I can come with you," he beamed at her. Her doctor's appointment was at one and she expected to go alone.
"What about the people?" She loved the idea, but all those people would surely end to this getting up online. Gray protectively put her hand on her stomach, it was a bit too early for others to know.
"I'm coming too. Throwing off the scent," Perrie chimed in next to her. Gray felt like crying again, but she knew better. For days the guys have made fun of her for crying at a drop of a hat. She bawled her eyes out at an episode of The Big Bang Theory last night. To be honest, even Gray was annoyed with herself. She had to get it together.
"Thank you both," Gray whispered. She hugged Liam tightly trying to stop her emotions. His arms wrapped around her waist and snuggled her back.
"Don't cry love," he whispered sincerely in her ear. Gray rolled her eyes and moved away from him.
"Shut it." Gray quickly wiped her eyes and turned her attention to Perrie.
"Let's get our walk on." Lately any bit of running made Gray want to vomit. It felt like someone would shoot fireworks into her belly if she started. Instead, her and Perrie had been on a power walk craze while the boys did there thing. Both walked in the arena and started on.
"You excited? I heard you can hear the heartbeat at twelve weeks," Perrie gushed as they rounded the first corner.
"You been reading up on me Pea," Gray laughed. Perry playfully hit her.
"Course. I am the aunt, I need to know my stuff."
"How long does Aunt Perrie have left with us?" Gray knew she was going back to London at some point. It made her sad just thinking about it. They had became so close it was like Gray grew another sister. It was going to be hard to become the one girl on this trip again.
"I'm leaving after New York. I think I will need to come back though, I need to see my little Rebecca again," she told her, rubbing Gray's belly.
"You best be ready for a lot of texts and phone calls," Gray pouted.
"Don't you worry, I expect pictures. Often." They both rounded the chairs again, not saying anything to each other. It was killing Gray inside to lose her friend.
"How are you doing with the whole Mila thing," Perrie quietly asked. Gray shrugged, she really hadn't been thinking about it much.
"Probably better then I should be. I haven't thought about her much. I know we both said things we didn't mean, but I just feel the need to not apologize right now. Maybe our lives are going in two different directions," she explained. It was true, there was a strong possibility that they wouldn't mend their broken relationship. Things were so much more different then they when Gray first met Liam. Both of their lives changed more then they could have imagined. Gray knew at some point they needed to talk, but right now Gray had to keep her sights on Liam and the little one.
"I understand. Friendships can be hard. If you ever do that to me though, I will slap you. Pregnant or not." Gray laughed at her, she knew Perrie was speaking the truth.
"So you are going to teach my child how to fight now?"
"Hey, whatever it takes to be the favorite aunt, I'm willing to do what I need to."
----
"Let's go troops," Steve yelled to them. After rehearsal Liam freshened up and was ready to roll. Gray could tell he was nervous. Liam until to pace the floor and check his phone repeatedly until it was time to go. Gray found it completely adorable.
"Come on pops," she laughed, gripping his hand tight. They walked to another dark SUV, jumping in fast to hide from the screams. It was a nervous ride for Gray too. Without seeing Dr. Whalen himself, she worried their tiny little secret would get out into the world. The doctor assured her though, Dr. Claudia Fast in Richmond was a good person who would stay quiet.
"Is there anyone behind us," she asked, checking out the back window. The highway was packed, but none looked to be the devious paparazzi.
"Don't worry, we can blame this one on me. Wouldn't be the first time I was accused of being knocked up," Perrie winked at her. Gray smiled back, but she was still nervous. Right now she wanted to get in fast and stay out of everyone's eye. Luckily Liam was rocking a normal baseball crap and sunglasses, so at least it wasn't his typical look. Steve pulled the SUV to the front door. Gray got out quickly and released a breath, she couldn't see anyone waiting to snap unsuspecting photos of her. Perrie and Liam joined her as she walked up to the corner.
"Hi, I'm Gray Cameron here to see Dr. Fast," she spoke quietly. The nurse smiled back at her.
"I'll let her know you are here, if you would just like to take a seat for a bit she will be with you soon." The waiting room was almost completely empty, just a couple of other pregnant moms who were minding their own business. Liam's leg shook her chair. Gray put her hand on his knee to calm him.
"Breathe babe, it will be okay." Liam stared at her behind his glasses.
"Gray Cameron," the nurse called. Gray and Liam got up but Perrie stayed in her seat.
"Pea, come on," Gray ordered.
"No, you two go," she tried to object but Gray stopped her.
"Get up. Don't piss the pregnant lady off." Perrie waved her hands in the air and followed behind them. The nurse led them down the hallway and into the last room on the left.
"Miss Cameron if you could lay on the table, the doctor will be right in." The nurse smiled again before shutting the door. Liam turned on his phone and handed it to Perrie.
"Let's see your videotaping skills." Gray looked at him.
"Videotaping?"
"Thought we could show my mum later, time to tell her," he smiled at her. Gray grabbed his hand. It made her more then happy to hear. Finally, Liam was showing more and more enthusiasm for the little one.
The doctor knocked twice before walking in. She was a shorter older woman with very robust hair. Gray already felt better about this. Not many older ladies are going to care about the fame of a boy band.
"Hi Gray, I'm Dr. Fast. I spoke to Whalen on the phone already, so I am up to date. Who do we have with you today?"
"This is my fiance Liam, and our friend Perrie," Gray told her.
"Nice to meet you all. Let's check out your baby here. If you could just pull up your shirt." Dr. Fast said next to her turning on the monitors and putting the ultrasound belly on her stomach. Liam sat down on the chair next to Gray's body watching intently. Gray studied his face seeing the worry lines come all over him.
"It's okay," she whispered, giving his hand a squeeze. Perrie quietly started video on the phone in the corner, giving the couple their space. The doctor moved the wand around her stomach more until their precious baby popped up on the screen. Gray heard Liam gasp beside her. Gray squeezed his hand harder, but was unable to look away. Her little baby was there, and bigger then before. This time she could actually make out the body more. Little One has arms and a body, it made Gray immediately stop crying.
"It looks like you two have a healthy baby on your hands." The doctor smiled moving along her stomach before talking again.
"You are measuring right about twelve weeks and six days. Did you want to hear the heartbeat?" Both Gray and Liam shook their heads yes, unable to speak. She turned the sound up on the display and soon the entire room was filled with a loud rumbling. Little's One first sounds were right there for all of them to hear. Gray couldn't stop the tears anymore. She used her free hands to wipe them off and continue to stare at the miracle inside of her.
"One hundred and thirty five beats, nice and healthy," Dr. Fast declared. She quickly snapped some pictures for them before wiping off her belly and letting her sit up. Liam still said nothing next to her, he just stared at the ultrasound pictures.
"Gray, you are perfect to go, I'll let Dr. Whalen know. He did want a couple of blood tests, so I'll send the nurse in. Otherwise, you are free to go." She smiled before leaving the couple in their own little world.
"She is so perfect," Liam whispered to her.
"She?"
"I think it's a she. All I know is that she is beautiful." Liam stood up to kiss her, just a simple kiss but it meant so much to Gray. Perrie quietly stopped the video on the other side of the room. She had her own tears to deal with just watching those two. Gray and Liam were in the own little world, but Perrie was glad to be a part of it. She could really see how much they loved each other. It was magical.
----
After getting pinched by another set of needles, the three were back with the boys in the arena. They all fawned over the new pictures of Little One, who Niall affectionately named Eggo. Gray hated it with a passion, but once they found something they liked it stuck. Heck, they were still calling her Gray Goose til this day. Now all Gray wanted to do was sleep and eat, but they had another battle to win. Telling Karen.
"I brought you food," Liam told her was he walked into the empty room. The rest of the group was giving them time alone and not barging in. Gray checked out his plate, he actually did a pretty good job.
"Score one for you on the grapes," she smiled, leaning over and kissing him. They both sat on the hard carpet with Liam's laptop in front of her. Soon Karen's face popped up on the screen.
"Oh my babies," she cooed. Gray smiled and waved back. There was another face she missed.
"Hello mum," Liam smiled. His leg was shaking out of the view, but Gray still put her hand on top of his knee trying to still him.
"Alright kids, what is the reason for this call?" She was a mom after all, something was up. Liam pulled out his phone, ready to send her mom the video. He never had a chance to watch it, so hopefully it wasn't too bad.
"Mum, I'm shipping you a video. Let me know when you get it before you watch it," he explained her. Technology these days was handy, it only took minutes for it to show up on her phone.
"Alright, I'm watching." Gray studied her face intently, waiting to read some emotion on it. Liam on the other hand was also watching the video too.
"Is this what I think it is," Karen asked from the screen. On Liam's phone, Perrie must have zoomed in close to show Little One on the monitor. It still gave Gray's goosebumps just watching it now. It was amazing to think that baby was moving and wiggling inside her. She wondered when she would start to feel it, that would make it even more real. Karen stayed silent throughout the whole seven minute video before finally looking up at Gray and Liam again. Gray could see the tears running down her face.
"Is this true? You are going to have a baby," she asked them. Gray started crying herself.
"Yes." The way Karen stayed so silent started to make Gray nervous.
"Mum?" Liam must have sensed it too.
"This is something else. Sorry dears, I am just a bit shocked right now, definitely exciting but I'm waiting for my heart to slow down," she explained.
"Trust us Karen, it was a shock to us also," Gray quietly told her.
"When are you due?"
"November 10th."
"Good, I have to write this down. Oh my, I cannot believe I'm going to be a grandma," Karen smiled at them. Gray felt herself finally breath. Things were going well.
"Oh how I love you two so much. Well, I should really say three," Karen sobbed from the screen. Gray wiped her own eyes with her sleeve, just thankful she took it so well. It's Karen though, she seemed to love everything.
"I'll ship you the pictures mum, I have to go though." Liam waved to her.
"Okay kids, talk to you soon. Gray you protect me little grandbaby," Karen smiled. Gray raised her arm to her stomach again, it seemed to be like her body was built to do it lately.
"Bye Mum, love you."
"Bye." Liam closed the computer and immediately grabbed Gray in for a hug.
"Told you she would take it well," he said, his voice tickling her ear.
"You are starting to get soft on me jailbait." Gray moved back, rubbing the pads of her thumbs over his face, collecting the tears.
"You seem to make me that way, loving me so much." His lips touched hers again, silencing her before she said something else smart.
----
In the week that had gone by, Gray's stomach had ballooned out. It looked like she had eaten four Chipotle burritos in one sitting. Other then sweats and leggings, her regular pants no longer fit her. Unfortunately life on the road meant shopping for pregnant pants was out of the question too. She resorted to wearing her pants in public, and anything of Liam's when she didn't need to be seen.
"I need to find something to wear for the Today show," she grumbled to Liam. They were stuck on the bus again, making their way from Columbus to New York City for the big week there. Sweats were definitely not acceptable fora live morning show to her.
"I bet you and Perrie could do some damage when you get there," Liam yawned. They were both shoved into his bunk, trying to enjoy their downtime. Gray's back was pushed up against his chest while his hand gently ran over her growing belly. His fingertips felt like warm butter gliding along her skin.
"Doc Whalen set me up another appointment when we get to San Diego. He said we could get the sex while we are there." Gray hadn't made a decision on what she wanted to do yet, she hoped Liam had an idea.
"I think we should wait, it would be a fun surprise," he mumbled in her eyes. Gray smiled, she liked that idea too.
"I'm down, but picking a name could be hard," she told him, flipping her big body around so she could see his face.
"We need a unisex name," she said.
"What about Jude? Jude Payne," he suggested. Gray made a face.
"Sounds like a prude. Little One is definitely not a prude. Jamie would work." Liam shook his head no to that one.
"Torrance."
"Hell no. Emery, that could work?" Gray suggested, that was always one of her favorites.
"Too girly. If it's a boy he would be bullied in school." Gray grabbed her phone and quickly searched on Google. They went through pages and pages of names and couldn't agree on anything.
"Our kid is going to be nameless," Gray groaned dramatically. Liam rolled his eyes.
"Calm down Gray, we have a good couple of months to figure this out," he calmed her, grabbing her phone to do his own searching.
"What about this one love." Liam pointed to a name on the screen. Gray's eyes lit up immediately. That was the perfect name, it fit them and Little One perfectly.
"That's it jailbait, you picked a winner." Liam stuck the phone back under their pillows and curled up into her again.
"What can I say goose, I can pick a winner when I see it."
----
"Oh look at that dress," Perrie gushed as they walked through Macy's with Steve. They finally got a break away from it all to do a little shopping. The boys already finished their two shows at Madison Square and where performing tomorrow on The Today Show. It was down to the wire for Gray to find anything to wear.
"Gray, your baby needs this," Perrie yelled. Gray quickly walked over to her, shushing her. They were in public with plenty of people around who knew who they were.
"If you get me busted right now I will kill," Gray barked, pulling her away from the baby section and into the adults.
"This isn't fun. I want to shop! I wish you two would find out, or let me! I need to shop," Perry groaned. Gray and Liam announced to the group earlier about their plan to keep it a secret. It seemed they were the only two who thought it was a good idea, everyone else begged them to find out. Gray was standing her ground on this one though. It was better for Little One to be a secret to all. Gray searched through the racks for something that would shield her belly but not look like a gigantic tent.
"You know the last time we went dress shopping you got engaged," Perrie quietly told her. Gray blushed at the thought. It was still a magical night for her and felt like it just happened.
"That was a good night," she whispered.
"It was, but I am picking it out this time. You need black and flowy." Perrie walked away, leaving Gray in her thoughts. Gray stood there, touching her belly. She kept feeling little flutters at morning. It left her wondering if it was just gas or Little One was starting to show itself to the world. Gray hadn't said anything to Liam, not wanting to sound like a complete fool. Instead, it was her little secret.
"Found it," Perrie screamed from across the store. She hurried over to Gray, showing it off.
"Go put this on, trust me, it's going to work." Gray didn't even fight, instead she headed into the room, pulling on the flowy maxi dress. It hit her at all the right spots, especially the newly found boobs that decided to make an appearance. Gray walked out, strutting her stuff to Perrie.
"Yup, told you I would fit in. Man your breasts are huge!" Gray shushed her again, man her voice could travel so much.
"Thank you for that, can we get this and go," Gray laughed walking back to the fitting room. She slipped out and stared at her naked body in the mirror. Her belly seemed to be even more round then it was this morning. She felt a little frisky and grabbed her phone. Liam needed a little spice today. She positioned her body, covering all the necessary parts and snapped away.
----
"Love if you continue to shake your legs anymore I am going to duct tape them to the ground," Liam barked next to her. The sun wasn't even up yet as they headed over to the Today Show. The whole van was quiet, mostly due to everyone sleeping. Gray was the only one that felt awake right now, most due to excitement and nerves. She had never been down to see it all live before, it was definitely a fangirl moment. They pulled up to the gates and Gray's mouth fell open. There were people everywhere, screaming the boy's names. Steve opened door letting them all out. Niall and Louis went fast, while Liam jumped out, gripping her hand. She stayed closely to them as they entered. The producers of the show ushered them through multiple hallways until they were placed in one big dressing room.
"We have to go sound check. Stay here for a while and relax or sleep or something." He kissed her forehead before heading out. Gray looked over to see Perrie passed out on the couch already, leaving Gray alone in her thoughts. She fell down on the couch, feeling her phone go off in her purse. Gray smiled seeing it was Gloria.
Gloria: We are watching! You best smile pretty for the camera!
Gray laughed and sent her a quick message back. She sighed again looking over at Perrie. Gray cuddled into the couch, if you couldn't beat them, joined them.
"And we are back with the boys of One Direction!" Matt Lauer announced to the tv. Gray stood far off to the side of the studio with Perrie, watching from afar. The guys put on a fabulous performance outside, and now were going through their interview portion in. Gray was happy, the crowd outside was deafening. At least inside there were walls to block them out.
"You all happy to be here," Meredith asked. The boys smiled and nodded.
"Course New York is always an amazing place to be," Niall replied.
"You all are on an amazing tour across the country, where to next?"
"We have one more show tomorrow here, then it's off to California," Zayn told them.
"We have a tough question now. There have been some reports lately about you personally Liam. It seems your girlfriend has been spotted with a very pretty diamond on her finger, you want to tell us about that?" Liam rubbed the back of his neck nervously. It was the question everyone wanted to know.
