Side by Side
Lean on Me
Gray woke up feeling just feeling just as tired as last night. It was 9:30am and they were still on the road. She felt the bus move between her feet as she jumped out of the empty bus. Niall and Harry were in the front snacking on food when she walked by.
"Hey Gray, cracker?" Harry greeted her holding out a box of animal crackers. Her mouth watered, those sounded amazing right now. She grabbed a handful and sat down next Harry.
"Where's Liam," she asked, biting the head off a buffalo cracker. Niall rolled his eyes.
"What? We aren't good enough for you," he asked with a mouthful of crackers. She threw her half eaten buffalo at him.
"Psh, whatever. You know I love you guys." She gave them both a big, goofy kiss in the air. Secretly down deep, she still prayed they loved her after they found out the big news.
"Well Mr. Debbie Downer is fast asleep with Louis in the back," Harry announced. Gray got up smiling at them all and headed to him. She still needed to talk to him about leaving for Chicago today. Gray slid the back door open quietly and walked in. Louis was in the corner curled up in a ball on the bean bag chair. It looked completely uncomfortable to her, but at least he was getting some sleep. Other then Liam, Louis was the one who needed the most right now, he was starting to look like a ghost. Liam was sleeping sitting upright on the couch with his snapback pulled over his eyes. Gray smiled, he was wearing their 'Gram' hat again. Even though she didn't want to wake up, her body still pulled towards him like always. Gray quietly sat on the couch by his feet and pulled out her phone. She needed to tell her mom she was coming up.
Me: I'm coming to Chicago later. Have to talk to you in person about something.
Gloria texted her back straight away.
Gloria: You have me worried Gray. What's this about?
Me: Better to talk in person. I'm not staying, just have to make a day trip.
They were supposed to pull into St. Louis around 11am. She figured she could be ready, get a rental car and hit the road. Her doctor would be open until 6pm and then her mom's. Then leave early and be back 10 tomorrow morning to board the bus and keep on trucking. Nothing but a fast life for a traveling fiancé. She sighed just thinking about it. She still had a hard time realizing this was her life now. Liam's body stirred and he opened an eye. Gray gave him a small roar, not wanting to wake up Louie in the corner.
"You still leaving," he whispered. Gray nodded.
"I'll be back before you all leave tomorrow. Don't worry Liam, I am coming back. You can't stop me there," she whispered rubbing his leg. She wanted him to know this, even if Gray had to beat it into his head. Life was way too important to not be with him right now.
"I'd rather you not go at all. Driving causes a lot of accidents." Gray smiled, there was over protective Liam. He was finally back.
"It will be fine, I promise. You will hardly even notice I'm gone," she told him. Liam snorted from the other side of the couch.
"You will call me when you arrive and leave and every moment in between." Gray saluted him.
"Yes sir!" She giggled quietly at him.
"Good, now come here." Gray crawled over to him, careful not to spill her crackers. She curled up into his side, both of them barely squeezing to fit.
"Soon we won't be able to do this," she chimed in.
"Animal crackers?" He ignored her comment, not ready to fully talk it yet. It wasn't that he didn't want to, but until she went to the doctor to confirm it, their talk wasn't needed.
"Taste amazing," she giggled again, shoving a lamb into her mouth. She held up a wolf to him.
"Want a bite?" Liam shook his head, pushing down her hand and landed her lips on her mouth. Gray moaned into him, it felt so real. She reached up running her free hand through his hair.
"Please stay," he begged one more time against her lips. Gray shook her head no but didn't pull away. She needed to enjoy the moment since she wouldn't have another for almost twenty four hours.
----
Finally, after hearing the same speech from Liam for the third time she was on her way. He seemed to be extremely worried about her driving even though pregnant woman drive all the time. Gray wouldn't ever tell him, but she already had to pull over at a rest stop to vomit out her morning sickness. It was starting to drive her nuts, hopefully her doctor could give her some insight on it all. Gray's phone started ringing as she flew down the highway.
"Hi Mom."
"Hey Gray, so can you fill me now about why you are coming up here," Gloria asked. Gray sighed; no way could she get out of this one.
"I made an appointment to see Dr. Whalen," Gray explained.
"Why do you need to see him all of a sudden? That's weird. Wait, wait just a minute.... oh my god." Gloria trailed off. Gray knew she figured it out.
"You are pregnant."
"I am," Gray said quietly.
"Oh my Gray."
"I know," she whispered again, praying the tears didn't start.
"I'm a little shocked but this is very exciting to hear." Gray could hear the smile in her voice, it was the same time the tears starting roll down her face.
"Thanks Mom," she croaked out. Gray had to balance the phone with her shoulder just so she could wipe the tears out of her eyes. Thank God her mom was taking this so well.
"You drive, because it sounds like you are crying right now," Gloria chuckled," we will talk when you get home." Gray hung up and quickly shipped a message to Liam. She wanted him to know she missed him right now, even with the circumstances. Hopefully after the doctors, she will feel better about this all.
----
Possibly due to her speeding out of nerves, Gray arrived at Dr. Whalen's office shortly after 3pm. Her legs couldn't stop shaking right now. When she was an hour away driving, every possible fear hit her. She worried her baby wouldn't be healthy, or have no heartbeat, or it could be twins. Every possible idea was killing her right now. She said in the far back corner of the office waiting to get it over with.
"Gray," the nurse called out her name. She stood up so fast her chair tipped over behind her. Gray blushed like a fool and quickly picked it up before running up the nurse.
"Nervous," she smiled at Gray.
"Tons." Gray couldn't get her hands to stop moving right now. It was actually quite embarrassing.
"We will we take good care of you. I'm Leah, Dr Whalen's nurse." She followed Leah down the hall into one of the uniformed, white walled rooms. Gray always wondered why they made rooms look so ugly.
"So what brings you here. I know you spoke to the doctor himself on the phone so unfortunately we don't have any notes on this."
"I'm quite positive I'm pregnant." Gray whispered to her. Leah nodded in response.
"Well that is great to hear, babies are the best. When was your last menstrual cycle," she asked her.
"I believe it was around January 31st. I haven't had once since then." It ended the day before she met up with Liam in Miami.
"Do you have sexual intercourse soon after? Sorry, the way the words these questions are so formal." Gray blushed for the thousandth time; it felt like she was in the principal's office at high school.
"Yes." Leah wrote down more things on her papers before standing.
"Okay, I'll send him right now. If you could take off your panties and jeans and lay on the table here. Then we can get started soon after.” Leah exited the room giving Gray time to change. She still felt extremely embarrassed, which she knew was stupid. It would be different if she was a fourteen year old girl who got knocked up, but Gray was an adult in a relationship. She shouldn’t feel so bad about this. She sat on the cold, hard doctor’s table until he came in.
“Gray, it’s good to see you again,” Dr. Whalen cheerfully said walking into the room with Leah behind him. Gray shuffled her hands again, just wanting to get this over with.
“Hey Doc,” she quietly said. He walked over to her, quickly checking her chart before taking a seat in front of her on the table.
“I’m going to guess you are nervous about this,” he smiled at her. Gray shook her head yes.
“Don’t be, this will be easy and you will get to see your baby too. That’s always a fun. Lay back for me, would you please?” Gray did as she was told and stared up at the bleak ceiling. She kept counting the plastic panels hoping it would make the time go by faster. Dr. Whalen did what he needed and turned the monitor panel on.
“Okay Gray, looks like you definitely have a little one in there.” She turned to her head to see. There it was. A tiny little blob on the screen through the ultrasound. It felt like the air had been sucked out of her body. Her baby was there. Tears started to run down her face at that very moment. It was the point of life. Gray zoned in on the monitor, not even remembering there were other people in the room. She was going to have a baby.
“Hi little one,” she barely cooed to the monitor. Her hand ran up to her stomach, lightly brushed her fingers along her skin. She was going to be a mommy.
“You look great, I’d say around nine weeks, give or take a day. There is the head and the start of the arms too.” Dr. Whalen pointed out the parts on the screen. To Gray’s non trained eye, it just looked a blob of human on the screen, but she didn’t care. It was her child inside, all safe and sound. She wiped the tears from her eyes again, not knowing she would be so emotional about this.
“Would you like a copy?”
“Could I have three,” she asked. Dr. Whalen printed them off before letting Gray get up and stretch.
“Okay, we need to talk about care right now. Definitely going to need to get you on some prenatal vitamins and Leah will get you some reading material on the do’s and don’ts. I know you have a particular situation with your boyfriend too.” Gray nodded in response.
“Fiancé now, but yes. He is currently on tour and I have been with him.” Gray wondered the same. She couldn’t go the next six months without getting to some sort of doctor for checkups.
“If you have your schedule down, I can work at some of the offices in that area for your checkups. I know you expect this to stay private for a while so we will do our best to make it work. You need to take care of yourself now Gray. You have someone else to think about,” he warned. Gray’s hand went to her stomach again. She knew this, now seeing her little one inside her protective mom zone was coming out.
“When do you think I will have it,” she asked. A due date was the most important thing right now.
“Give or take, you are looking around November 10th. Where will you be in two weeks?” Gray had to think about it. Their schedule was so insane it was hard to keep up.
“Virginia. Richmond.” Dr. Whalen wrote it all down.
“I’ll do some checking and let you know. Keep yourself safe Gray, I mean it. You have had far too many accidents lately.” He smiled, trying to make sure Gray knew he was serious about this.
“I will.” They book said their goodbyes and headed off. Gray left the waiting room in a fog. The pictures of her child sat in her purse and she was dying to look at them again. She breezed through the clinic before reaching her car and digging them out. She still felt just as emotional as before in the room. There was her baby, right in front of her eyes. Her fingers brushed over the photo while tears ran down her face.
“Oh little one, I hope your daddy is excited to see these pictures,” she whispered to the photo. Gray sat them down on the passenger seat and dug out her phone. It only took two rings for Liam to answer.
“Love.” She could hear the nervousness in his voice.
“Hi future daddy,” Gray cried in the phone, wiping more tears from her eyes. She could hear Liam moving the phone around as he walked away from the murmurs in the background.
“So it’s true? We are going to have a baby,” he whispered to her.
“Yup, very true. I have pictures to prove it.” Gray waited to hear how this played out. She hoped he didn’t get completely angry with her.
“Oh my god love. Wow. I love you Gray, I love you so much.” His voice cracked as he talked to her. Gray could tell her was crying on the other side.
“I love you too baby,” she smiled,” I’m headed to my mom’s now. She knows.”
“Come back to me soon,” he whispered. It broke Gray’s heart to hear him. She wanted to go back to him so bad right now but driving in a car for another four hours didn’t sound like fun. She was beyond tired from all the emotions she had gone through in these last two days.
“I will. Tomorrow you will see us.” Us, such an easy word to say now.
“I love you two.” Gray held back a sob. He said it; he loved both of them right now. It made her so happy to hear that at this point.
“We love you too baby.” Gray hung up the phone, trying to fix her makeup again and headed to her mom’s. Nobody would be able to wipe the smile off her face right now, it was just more than happiness. It was life.
----
“Mom?” Gray walked into the house. It felt like she never left really. Everything was the exact same from the last time she was there.
“Oh my baby!” Gloria was already crying when she walked into to greet her. Gray held her mom tight, not realizing how much she missed her until this very moment.
“I’ve missed you,” Gray cried into her shoulder. There was no way she could control herself right now.
“Come on, come sit. I need to hear about everything.” They walked into the adjoining den off the kitchen and sat close on the couch.
“Where are the girls?”
“Play date, I didn’t tell them you were coming so it will be a nice surprise. How was the doctors?” Gloria’s face turned to stone. She worried just as much as Liam did about the whole situation.
“Good.” Gray reached down and pulled out the ultrasound photos.
“Oh my god,” Gloria cried out again. She studied the pictures through her tears looking at her future grandbaby.
“When are you due?”
“Around November 10th.” Gray grabbed a tissue for her and Gloria from the nightstand.
“This is simply amazing. How did Liam take it?”
“Better now after I called him. Last night he was in a bit of a shock for him I think,” Gray told her quietly. Shock was a bit of an understatement. At the time he seemed to not even care.
“Always is for men. When I told your father he was incredibly angry, makes sense that he left, but that is old news. Liam will come around, he has the biggest heart of anyone,” Gloria explained to her.
“I think he will too. Now it’s the rest of them I have to worry about.” It was true, she had one hurdle down, one to go.
“Why are you worried about them? “
“I already feel like I am cramping their space. Now I’m bringing another one into their lives, plus my gigantic ass when it grows.” Gloria waved her off.
“Those boys love you, I highly doubt they are going to be pissy,” she explained,” you see the negative in everything far too much Gray. Really.” Gray stayed silent, her mom had a point.
“When are you leaving?”
“Probably around four or five tomorrow morning. The bus leaves at ten for Nashville,” Gray told her.
“Then where?”
“Atlanta. Charlotte. Richmond. Then we swing over to Columbus before spending a bunch of time in New York City.” It made Gray just thinking about it. By then she would be falling into her second trimester. Gray wondered how much she would be showing by then.
“Good lord girl, you are going to exhaust yourself,” Gloria said. That was a lot of traveling for a girl who was pregnant. Sadly, that wasn’t even a dent into the trip. After New York and all their performances they flew to California for the second half. Gray took it all one time zone at a time.
“I’ll rest, most of the time I’ll be on the bus. I’m sure it will be fine,” Gray tried to make her feel better. She really didn’t need her mom worrying yet.
“Believe me Gray, you are going to hate it.”
----
The night flew by fast. Both of the girls were happy to see their big sister and they spent the evening catching up and eating pizza while watching their favorite Disney movies. It was a nice break for Gray. No men being nasty and gross, or having to worry about where she was going to sit, or sleep or needed to be at a certain time. It was refreshing. Liam called her three times that night just to check in, after all overprotective Liam was alive again. Now she was on her way back to him with only about thirty minutes to go. Gray had to stop twice for a little toilet loving time, but after that she was back on the road. Liam only texted her once, he was more than likely still sleeping from the night before. She was excited to get back though, to see him and Perrie. Mila on the other hand, that was up in the air. Ever since she found out about the baby, Mila had been pulling away from Gray. It was starting to extremely bug her. She knew she needed to talk to her about it before she left after the Nashville concert. Gray spent the rest of the trip dodging traffic and thinking about her little one to be. It was twenty to ten by the time she pulled into the rental car shop. Steve was waiting there with his blackened SUV to pick her up and drop her back on the bus.
“Sorry Steve, traffic sucked.” Gray quickly ran into the shop, turning in the keys and signing the last set of papers. She ran back out into the car and hopped in beside him. Gray clutched her purse tightly, it had the pictures of her baby in there and she couldn’t wait to show Liam.
“Buckle up, we have to hurry.” Gray should have known. They all lived on such tight schedules. Steve whipped the SUV around making Gray want to vomit right there. She kept her hand over her mouth and tried to shut her eyes, but the same feeling kept coming back. The bile rose into her throat, just waiting for the chance to escape.
“Steve, you have to slow down,” she slowly told him, trying to control her breathing. He looked at her like she had four eyes.
“Gray, are you still sick?”
“In a way. If you don’t slow down I’m going to puke in this car right now.” She continued to rub her fingers in circles over her temples to calm herself down. Deep breathes, in and out. Steve took his foot off the gas pedal and went back to driving like a normal person. They pulled up to the gated area of their hotel where the bus sat waiting. Gray didn’t even have time to get out before she saw Liam jump off the bus. He had the biggest smile covering his face. Gray scrambled with the door and jumped out. She sprinted over to him and threw herself on his body. Liam was able to hold her without breaking a sweat. He squeezed her body tightly, not willing to let her go. It felt like a scene out of a romance movie. Both of them standing there ignoring the world and refusing to let go of each other.
“I missed you,” he murmured into her ear. Gray pushed her face farther into his neck. She started to cry again, just because she missed him just as much. She dropped her feet back to the ground, but still wouldn’t let go of him.
“Love are you crying,” He asked, pulling her away from him to check her face. Tiny little tear streaks when down her skin.
“Yes,” she moaned. God, she had to control the damn tears at some point. Liam rubbed her back supportively while they still held on to each other.
“Guys, we need to go,” Steve barked from behind them. Liam pulled away from her, but grabbed her hand as they walked to the opening of the bus.
“Ladies first,” he motioned to her. Gray stepped in front of him and went up the first step before her foot slipped and made her crash down on the stairs.
“Shit Gray!” She heard Liam yell from behind her. His hands were on her, picking her body up before she even had a chance to breath. Liam stood her upright on the top of the landing, quickly searching over her body for any major wounds.
“Are you okay? Let me see,” he barked, lifting up her shirt and inspecting every part of her belly. Gray’s face went crimson knowing everyone else was watching them.
“Liam, I’m just fine,” she yelled, pulling her shirt down forcefully over his hands. Liam stood up, pulling his hands out, but still resting them on her waist. He looked at her with fear in his eyes.
“I’m fine, stop,” she whispered to him. They both looked to see all of the boys gaping at them. Perrie was the only one who sat there smiling. She was into their dirty little secret. The bus started moving beneath their feet making both of them shift awkwardly along the floor.
“Sit,” she ordered him. He joined the boys and all of them stared at her.
“Guys, we need to fess up to something.” Her hands started to sweat again, this was nerve wracking moment. Gray grabbed the envelope out of her purse and pulled out the two remaining pictures. She took the last remaining stop squeezed next to Liam and took a deep breath.
“We found out something yesterday that is going to affect us all. All I ask is that you don’t yell at me,” she told them all. Gray handed one of the ultrasound pictures to Liam and displayed the other one to the rest of the group.
“Holy shit..” Zayn replied. The guys stared at the photo with wide opened mouths. It felt like she had pools of sweat running down the back of her neck.
“Gray you little dirty girl,” Louis smiled, breaking up the silence. Gray looked up at him to see him looking at her with amusement. She felt a tiny sense of relief in her body. She knew he would be the hardest to take this, so if he was happy it was all downhill from here.
“Yeah, well.” She wasn’t sure of what else to say. What do you tell people you were naughty and got knocked up before marriage?
“This is only okay, if you name it Niall.” Gray laughed at Niall’s comment, thank god this was going well.
“I’m sure that is up for discussion down the road,” she smiled. He gave up and walked over giving her a big hug, which made all the other boys join. Soon Gray was smothered inside a boy band hug.
“Okay, pregnant girl can’t breathe,” Gray joked with them. They broke away; stealing her picture and all stared at it. Gray looked behind her to see Liam still staring at the ultrasound intently.
“Hey,” she spoke to him quietly and she took her place next to him again. Liam looked over at her with tears in his eyes.
“Our baby, eh?” Gray nodded her head yes.
“It still looks like a blob to me, but it’s ours.” She looked down at the picture, staring at her child. It was still weird to think something like that was inside her. Gray rested her head on his shoulder, looking down just as he did. This was the start of their lives together.
----
Gray felt like new person when the pulled into St. Louis. The boys hung the ultrasound picture on the small fridge on the bus, just like it was their own child. Gloria was right, they took the news in a good way. No one yelled at her, or screamed like she thought they would. It made Gray feel whole again. This where life was supposed to do with her.
“Tired,” Liam asked as they walked into the arena. Gray was curled into Liam, with her arm wrapped around his waist. The drive from Chicago early this morning was killing her.
“Very. If you guys order food I want a cheeseburger and fries,” Gray yawned again. She needed to find a home for her sleeping body very fast.
“Consider it done love. We have rehearsals then we will get you some food.” He told her as Perrie walked up.
“Love, want to cheat on Liam with me and go cuddle?” Gray laughed.
“Of course. You are my only love.” Gray quickly kissed Liam before leaving him in the dust. They scoped out the rooms until finding one with two very cushy looking couches.
“Perfect,” Gray told her, immediately going to one and lying down. Her body molded into the soft leather.
“Perrie you are a thinker.” She laughed from across the room and got comfy on the adjoining couch.
“I’m glad the secret is out Gray. Not sure how long I could have stayed quiet,” Perrie told her.
“I’m just glad no one yelled at me,” Gray responded.
“Please, you know that would never happen, I don’t even think they all know how to yell.” Gray stayed silent for a moment.
“Except Mila.” Mila. Gray hadn’t seen her since the concert in Houston. She got the feeling like Mila was mad at her for something; hopefully it wasn’t due to the fact of the baby.
“I doubt it. She probably just wants to spend time with Curtis. She is a newlywed after all.” Gray didn’t say anything else, she probably had a point. Having your husband gone for most of the year was probably hard on her. Gray hoped that was the only issue as she fell asleep.
---
“Nasty.” Gray woke up again with the complete urge to vomit. She had to rush to the bathroom and let it all out before she could even fully wake up. Her whole body felt like it got hit by a train. Having to heave her body multiple times a day was killing her. Gray washed up and headed out to see Perrie was already gone. Gray walked down the long corridor looking for any sign of the group. Sometimes those big arenas were completely eerie to walk alone. Finally she saw Mila up ahead alone.
“Mila, hey Mila,” Gray yelled. Mila didn’t turn around at all, and just kept walking. Gray picked up her speed and caught up to her.
“Hey, where is everyone?” Mila turned around to give her a hard stare.
“How am I supposed to know? Isn’t it your job to stay up with them?” Her tone made Gray take a step back.
“Whoa Mila,” Gray started before she got cut off.
“Don’t ‘whoa Mila’ me, Gray. I don’t want to hear that bullshit,” Mila barked back. This just caused Gray to get angry now. She hadn’t talk to her in over a day; there was no reason for the attitude.
“What the fuck Mila? What’s going on with you,” Gray yelled. Mila took a step towards her.
“What the fuck is going on GRAY, is that I’m sick of my husband having to take care you and your little bandmate friends. I barely see him because of you. Do you not get that GRAY?” Mila’s fists balled up at her side.
“How is that my fault? I didn’t give him the job and I don’t own them. Why are you picking fights with me and keep staying my name like that?” Gray tried to stay as calm as possible. Her body already hurt, she didn’t need everything else to join that.
“You know what Gray, you can cut the good girl act for once in your life. You just couldn’t let me have my moment could you. As soon as I got married you just had to think of a plan to one up me, I can see right through you.” Mila took a step closer to her. Gray couldn’t shelter her attitude anymore, enough was enough.
“Are you fucking high right now Mila! One, I never EVER tried to not let you have your ‘moment’, so you can wipe that from you stupid brain right now. NOR did I EVER plan to get pregnant just so people wouldn’t think of you,” Gray yelled her into her face. Her whole body quaked in anger.
“Please, I’m not stupid Gray, remember? I am a teacher, who actually FINISHED her degree unlike some people who just live off their boyfriends.” Low blow. Mila knew the circumstances Gray went though when she was trying to finish her degree.
“You know what Mila, just GO FUCK YOURSELF.” Gray screamed to her. The boys and Perrie were farther down the hall eating their lunch. Harry and Niall were trying to decide who got her burger when Perrie shushed them.
“Wait, shut it. Do you hear yelling?” She asked them. They all became quiet and heard the loud murmurs coming from down the hallway. It only took Liam seconds to figure out who it was. He quickly shot up from his chair and ran down only to see Mila and Gray going at it. He tried to say something, but was shut down by their yelling.
“Mila how about you look at yourself. You waited TWO WEEKS before talking to me after I broke up with the love of my life, never checked on me once! I had to come to you, looking sad and pitiful while you flaunted your happy go lucky relationship at me and that big ring that MY boyfriend practically paid for! So while I cried my eyes out to you, how I didn’t know if I could go on, all you could think about was whether to have tulle or lace on your fucking wedding dress. You are the heartless bitch, NOT ME!” Gray had angry tears rolling down her face when Liam stepped in between them. She could see the others were coming down the hall.
“Love, you need to step down,” he said to her, looking her straight in the eyes.
“No, I will NOT step down. She brought it up, she thinks I wrecked her moment. Mila can be the one to walk away,” Gray yelled at him, turning her glaze back to Mila.
“Oh just go fuck off Gray, you seem to be great at doing that,” Mila rolled her eyes. Louis stepped in front of her, trying to get her to calm down.
“You know what Mila, I hope you die a slow and fucking painful death right now. Go to fucking hell.” Gray screamed out before Liam picked her up off the ground and charged her down the hallway. Gray tried with all her might to get out of his grasp and go back to finishing this.
“Gray, stop. You need to calm your ass down right now,” he barked at her, dragging her body into a room and shutting the door.
“What is your problem,” he yelled at her with rage. Never once has she acted like this. Gray stared at him, crying even more.
“Don’t you dare yell at me Liam. She is the one who attacked me! What was I supposed to do? Just take it,” Gray yelled back, crying even harder.
“I walked down to you two screaming at each other. Tell me what the hell is going on. NOW.” He barked at her again.
“You know what, just going join your group again. Clearly I seem to handle things better myself,” she cried out again. Gray quickly brushed past him and hurry down the hallway. Her body shook as she could barely see with all the tears falling from her face. Two arms grabbed her body, turning her around and pulling her in close. She knew just by his scent that it was Liam. She wanted to push him off and be by herself, but at this point she had nothing left. Gray let him pull her body into another room while Liam shut the door behind them.
“Gray,” he spoke slowly, not wanting to set her off again.
“She, she was so mean to me. Said I tried to ruin her moment and got pregnant on purpose. I don’t know what happened, I just snapped,” Gray sobbed,” she is my closest friend, I’ve known her forever. Why would she think that?” Gray stepped away from him and slid down to the floor. Even though her brain was telling herself to quit crying, she just couldn’t seem to do it. Liam sat down next to her, pulling her body in close. He rubbed her back and cradled her body tight as she kept crying.
“I’m don’t know baby,” Liam cooed to her. The more she calmed down, the more she felt like a fool.
“This is so stupid. I think I’m going to lay low in here tonight,” Gray announced. She wanted to stay away from everyone.
“Nonsense. Besides, Mila won’t be out there and I picked my solo song for you tonight.” Gray peaked up to look at him.
“Why won’t see be there?” Gray felt alarms going off. This isn’t good. Liam sighed above her.
“I’ve seen the two of them arguing a lot lately, from the looks of it I know it wasn’t good. This probably is the last straw.” Gray groaned and threw her hands in her face. No wonder Mila lashed out on her.
“I’m a fucking horrible person,” Gray sobbed, crying all over again.
“Love, you are not horrible. You are just a bit emotional and protective right now,” he tried to reason with her. Right now Gray just wanted to crawl in a hole, with a couple of cheeseburgers and ride out this storm. She just told her best friend to die a slow painful death.
“I’m starting to wonder if me being here is a good idea,” she quietly said. Liam quickly picked her head, making her look at him.
“No. You and the little one are staying here, there is no way in the world you are leaving Gray, do you understand me. Never,” He pulled her body in and held on like his life depending on it. Gray was taken aback by this, it typically wasn’t his normal style. Protective Liam times 100.
“I won’t,” she squeaked out. She meant it too, if he wanted her here, she was staying.
----
“I’ve got quite a good song picked out for my favorite crowd tonight,” Liam yelled in the microphone, making the fans scream even louder. Gray sat on the side of the stage in the back. She knew she looked like shit and really didn’t feel like making small talk with people right now. After she finally calmed down in the room, she joined the others while they ate. Food was off the table for her since her stomach was in knots. Instead she stayed quiet in the corner, not wanting to step on anymore toes. She stayed out of sight quietly watching the boys at work.
“If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea,” Liam started with the music. Gray immediately smiled, this was another one of her favorites lately. She swayed in her sing, listening to the love her of her life sing from the other side of the stage.
“You can count on me like one, two, three and I’ll be there. And I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two you’ll be there. Cause that’s what friends are supposed to do, yeah,” he crooned to the crowd.
“Thank you St. Louis!” Liam came rushing off the side of the stage while Harry went up for his turn. He walked straight towards her, not letting go of her eyes. His body pushed into her while their lips matched perfectly. Gray wrapped her legs on around his, making him stay in please.
“Good song jailbait,” she whispered in his ear. Liam’s hand pressed softly against her stomach.
“Only for my favorites.” He kissed her one last time, before running back to finish the last song with the boys. Even with him gone, Gray could still feel his fingers on her stop. It made her smile and blush all at the same time. He was going to make a great father down the line. Gray just hoped the stress of this all wouldn’t swallow her up anytime soon.
