Side by Side
Down
"Gray, crawl up here," he begged motioning to the pillow. She army crawled up and fell again with her head on the pillow. Liam climbed in next to her not feeling the need to cuddle. Everything was just too much right now, it overwhelmed his brain. They had to figure this out before one of them has a full on breakdown. Tomorrow, they had to figure this out tomorrow before anything else. He didn't care if Anne had to watch Spencer all day, they were settling this once and for all."If you are going to act like this, I suggest we just skip it," she spat back.“Gray, are you nuts? Can you even let a baby that small fly?” Gray eyes rolled, of course her mom would take it well. They sat around the dinner table munching on the rest of her birthday cake from earlier. Gray broke the news to her then, in a public place for safety about going to London the very nice day. It was weak move waiting until the last minute but this way no one could talk her out of it. Mila was excited though, but the only one. She wanted Gray and Liam to work more than anything. Gray questioned if she would put her child’s life on it or not at this point."Please, you should know this. We can never just sit down and hash things out. We drag it on forever and ever until one of us break. That usually being me." Niall shrugged looking at her.
“Good question there but she will be fine. Spence rarely gets angry. Liam bought the seat out next to me so we will have some space.” It was nice of him to do that, even though he didn’t have to. Maybe he was trying in his own little way.
“I don’t like this Gray, not at all,” Gloria grumbled, taking another bite of her cake.
“Mom, I need to do this. It’s the last straw really. Either we work this crap out, or we end it for good. I can’t go through this limbo anymore. Besides, Spencer needs to see her dad,” Gray explained. Gloria continued to shove the forkful bites of cake in her mouth. Gray rested her hand on Gloria’s, making her stop.
“Hey, slow it down. Now you are just stress eating,” Gray laughed. Gloria threw her hands up in the air.
“Of course I am stress eating! You have me worried sick about you! This is too much Gray, I don’t know how much more I can take. I have been watching you two go through this shit for far too long, I don’t know how you can stand it,” Gloria cried.
“Trust me Mom, I get it. Promise once I come back home it will be better, I’m not going through this anymore either,” Gray explained to her.
“Damn straight Gray, otherwise you have to move. I’m sorry I know that is mean but it’s the truth. I need piece.” Gray bit her lip, fully knowing she was hiding the other part of her big secret to her. San Francisco. That secret needed to stay hidden a little while longer.
“I know Mom, I promise to get this resolved once and for all.” Gray was willing to make that promise to her.
“When is Mila picking you up,” she asked, changing the subject to something more neutral.
“Two thirty,” Gray groaned. Way too early to be up. It was the joys of traveling with a child at this point. She figured leaving super early would be easier on Spencer when they finally arrived. Gray was already worried about how the time difference would go for her little girl. If it meant she had to get up extremely, she would. Spencer was more important than her at this point.
“I’ll let you get to bed then. I guess this is goodbye.” Gloria hugged her tighter than any other time they had. She was nervous for Gray, she hoped everything would go alright.
“Love you Mom, I’ll keep you posted.” Gray smiled back at her.
“Always love you too.”
----
Gray got up right before two feeling more than excited. For one, it was the first time she actually got to do something outside of the Chicago based suburbs and two, she got to see her extended family again. Other then Liam, Zayn and Perrie she hadn’t seen the rest since that fateful bus accident back in August. Way too long, once again. She quietly fed Spencer and put her in the carseat. Gray got upstairs with their luggage in just minutes to spare before Mila pulled in.
“Hi,” Mila whispered excitedly making sure not to wake the neighbors or the sleeping baby.
“Hey, thank you for coming,” Gray whispered back giving her a quick hug. Mila got Spencer adjusted in the backseat while Gray threw the extremely large suitcase in the back. They jumped in the car just long enough to blast the heat.
“You are nuts for going to London in the dead of winter, just saying,” Mila joked from the driver’s seat.
“I miss the sun,” Gray pouted, staring out the window. They headed down the freeway to the airport keeping the small talk to a minimum.
“Remember the first time I brought you here? You wouldn’t even tell me who he was. I actually thought you were involved with some way older guy who lived off retirement and on a boat,” Mila quietly told her, breaking the silence.
“Old dude?” Gray made a face, old men aren’t really her thing. Well, maybe Richard Gere, he was a hottie.
“Yup, old dude. Never thought it would be a younger man that was new to me.”
“Why an old dude? Where did that part come from,” Gray asked.
“Because you are old Gray, inside. You have always had an old soul ever since I have known you. You weren’t ever a twenty four year old back then, I always pictured you older,” Mila explained.
“Yeah, how old are we talking about?”
“39.” Gray reached over and slapped her shoulder.
“Hey! Be nice to the pregnant lady,” Mila laughed next to her. She pulled into the airport long term parking lot and got out. There was barely anyone around by now making Gray felt like she could breathe. She had a lot to watch over and didn’t need the crowds getting in the way. They walked through the long corridor, Gray carrying Spencer’s carseat and Mila with the suitcase.
“You call me if you need me. Honest, even with the time change,” Mila told her sternly. Gray fought the urge to roll her eyes. Another protective soul.
“Got it,” she simply said. It was too early for anything else. They arrived at the ticket counter where Gray dropped off her bag and got ready to say goodbye.
“You have everything? Passports, Camera, Diapers, Food, Phone?” Mila asked her with tears in her eyes.
“Check to all, a mother is always prepared.” Gray lifted up the heavy carryon bag that had everything shoved in there. Enough clothes of Spencer, plus bottles and diapers and everything Gray needed. Camera, phone, money all the necessities.
“Love you,” Mila sobbed, giving her a huge hug. Her growing belly got in the way making it harder but it worked.
“Love you too, see you in ten days.” Gray watched Mila walk down the hall before picking up the sleeping baby and heading through TSA. She found her gate quickly and took a seat ready to get this show on the road. Spencer cooed from the floor making Gray smile down at her. She was absolutely perfect. Gray pulled out her phone, quickly texting Liam to let him know they were on the way.
Me: Boarding in a bit, should land around 6. Send me your address so I can tell the taxi. See you soon.
No heart, no ‘I love you’s’, no smiley faces. It was too early for that.. yet.
----
Gray sat on the airplane getting ready to finally land. It had been a long trip, enough to make her exhausted just being alone. Spencer handled it quiet well, only had a full blown screaming attack that Gray was able to get her settled down fast. Otherwise she slept or stared off around the airplane.
“Excuse me miss.” Gray looked up from her book to see a flight attendant looking down at her.
“Are you Gray Cameron,” she asked.
“I am.” They had a listing of everyone on the flight and what seats they were in. Gray found it weird.
“When we land, can you please stay in your seat until the rest of the plane unloads? There is a bit of a security issue at the terminal.” Gray’s hand immediately rested firmly on Spencer’s sleeping frame. She shook her head to the attendant who then walked off. The seatbelt song blinked over her, making Gray even more nervous. Her idea of having a breeze landing and flying through the terminal was out of the question now. She wasted those last minutes on the thinking while they landed and the plane started to unboard. Everyone walked past her raising their eyebrows. Gray just gave them a small smile back and blushed.
“Gray, are you ready miss,” the same attendant asked once the plane empty. She shook her head and stood, throwing her large bag over her shoulder and protectively gripping Spencer’s car seat. She walked off the plane only to be surrounded by security guards. They formed a perfect circle around her, a barrier against everyone else. Gray blushed at them too not used to the attention. They headed through the hallway only to see the terminal grow loud. She wondered how people were even back here, typically you needed a ticket to be at the gates. She looked down to see Spencer was still sleeping through it all thankfully. They walked in a fast, brisk pace leading Gray through a set of doors that everyone else couldn’t come through. Finally silence.
“In here Miss Cameron,” one of the guards said, holding the door open. She walked through into a small conference room looking area. That’s when she saw him. Liam was on the opposite with his back turned. As soon as he heard the rustling of people, he turned around to see Gray standing there. Her stomach fluttered with butterflies. She quickly put the carseat down on the floor and went running to him. It felt like slow motion, her legs couldn’t move fast enough to get him. When she finally reached the other side, her body crashed into his. Luckily Liam was ready for the blow, using all his force to keep them upright. Gray sobbed into his chest while her arms were wrapped tightly around his stomach. Liam rubbed her back, breathing in her hair feeling the same way she did. They stood there embraced together not caring about thing else until Spencer started to fuss over in the corner.
“I’m sorry, not sure what happened there,” Gray blushed pulling away from him and wiping her eyes.
“Quite alright,” he smiled. She turned away from him and walked over to her daughter.
“I know, I’m hungry to love,” Gray cooed. Liam stood from afar watching her. So many feelings swarmed his head.
“Liam, she is getting hungry. Are we going now or what,” Gray asked. Liam turned his head to the security guard and nodded, signaling him it was time to go.
“Can she wait? I want to blow out of this place.” He wanted to be home with his family and not have everyone else’s eyes watching them. Gray threw the bag back over her shoulders and went to pick up Spencer only to have him stop her.
“Let me,” he smiled. She quickly threw a blanket over the carrier before his picked her up. His fingers locked into hers only making Gray more surprised. They really would have to learn each other all over again. They huddled close together as they made their way back down the hallway into the main opening of the airport.
“How did everyone know I was coming,” she whispered to him. Liam kept his eyes forward when he answered.
“Someone recognized you in New York, must have been your layover. Blew up on Twitter.” Gray rolled her eyes, she went this far without being seen and one trip on an airplane makes everyone freak out. Soon, the roar of the crowd outside could be heard threw the walls. She squeezed his hand not realizing it. Gray hadn’t gone through this in a very long time.
“Don’t worry, it’s a quick walk.” He smiled down at her making Gray’s heart beat faster. Security blocked the crowds back as Gray and Liam rushed into the awaiting van. Her hands shook and heart raced through it all. She reached over Liam’s lap, quickly buckling in Spencer’s carrier before they took off.
“See, piece of cake,” Liam laughed, his eyes dancing into her. Gray smiled back and turned out the window. It was only a piece of cake if you were used to it every day.
----
“She asleep,” Gray yawned from the couch. After they got home and settled down, they enjoyed a quick take out meal before Spencer went down for another nap. Liam took the reins on her completely, not letting Gray do a thing. After missing out on so much time with her, he had to savor every moment. Gray knew their sleep clocks would be all messed up, but she hoped to at least get some peace for a while.
“Completely out with her mouth open and everything,” he smiled, sitting next to her. She threw her feet up on his lap and stretched out. It took all her might not to pass out right there and there. Liam looked back at her, wanting to talk but he didn’t know if it’s the right time.
“Where are the guys?” Gray was surprised they were barging down the door. Both Louis and Niall had been hounding her via text messages since Monday. She was expecting them to beat down the door at this point.
“I threatened them to stay away until tomorrow. We needed a quiet night today. Don’t worry, they are in the building hoping I change my mind,” Liam explained. Gray felt disappointed but didn’t let her face show it. Part of her wanted them there just to ease the amount of tension and awkwardness going on between them. It was weird, beyond weird. Half of her wanted to just crush him with her body and have her way with him while the other side wanted to keep the distance going.
“You care to watch a movie,” he asked making her pay attention again.
“I’m fine with that. Probably will fall asleep though,” she explained. Liam got up, throwing a random disc in the player.
“Wouldn’t be the first time I carried you to bed.” Gray blushed, hiding her face in her arm. She remembered somewhat of her drunken butt being carried up at Mila’s bachelorette party. Liam dimed the lights and joined her back on the couch. His body was closer this time, her butt pushed right up against his thigh. His fingers lazily ran over her legs making her go even more crazy. He probably didn’t even realize he doing it too that was the hard part. Gray quickly sat up, flipping her body around and rested her head in his lap.
“Comfy,” he smirked to her. She looked up to see his big eyes staring down at her. She blinked over and over again, hopefully able to break the trance he had on her. Liam’s bent down, his lips getting closer to hers. She tried to fight herself on it, but her heart won. Gray’s face met him halfway causing their lips to meet. Immediately her body was covered in goose bumps. They could be complete enemies and still have all those thoughts disappear when they touched. His hand went behind her head burying in her hand. He held her up while she deepened the kiss. They continued on until the loud volume of the TV scared them both. Liam pulled back blushing.
“Sorry about that.” He quickly grabbed the remote, turning down the volume as fast as possible. Both of them stared at each other feeling like they just got caught doing something naughty. Liam grabbed her arm and pulled her body down on top of him. Soon they were both laying down, Gray covering his whole body. She felt herself tense up, but shook the feelings off. This was Liam, her Liam that she had known for forever now. Heck, he saw her give birth, there was no reason to be sheepish around him. Gray buried her face into his chest tighter trying to find a comfy spot. Liam’s hands rested on her hips grazing very low to her butt. His thumb gazed her skin where her shirt rode up only to make electricity shoot through her body.
“Liam, you are driving me crazy with that,” she mumbled into his chest. His fingers stopped immediately, sliding up and resting closer to the middle of her back. Gray giggled before turning her attention to movie. The sleep was sneaking up on her fast and faster. She kept having to flutter her eyes just to try and stay coherent. Liam other the hand, was wide awake. He had so much he wanted to tell her and say to her at this point. They needed to talk and figure out what was going on between them. Barely talking for a month straight when they were supposed to love each other for the rest of their lives wasn’t working.
“Gray, I need to tell you something. I’m sorry for everything, I’ve made a lot of mistakes,” he started telling her. The words wouldn’t come out straight. Gray stayed quiet below him, which drove him more nuts. Liam adjusted their body weight, wanting to talk to her face not her hair. He moved to the left more, pushing her with him only to see her completely passed out. Gray was dead to the world. Liam sighed, all that thinking did him no good. He had to talk to her, tomorrow for sure. Liam grabbed the blanket and covered her body turning his attention back to the TV. There had to be answers sooner or later.
----
Gray woke up trying to check her surroundings. She remembered trying to watch a movie with Liam last night, but that was the last thing that popped up. Her eyes fluttered open making her realize this wasn’t his living room, this was his bedroom. She turned her head to see Liam sleeping next to her. He needed to shave very badly, but the scruff looked cute on him. He looked older than before, more mature when she saw him yesterday at the airport. Right now though he looked like the nineteen year old she first met. Her fingers trailed down his jaw making her melt. Wait, if he was here where was Spencer? Gray quickly flipped back over to check the clock. Noon! It’s noon, she slept that long! She jumped out of bed running out of the room looking for her child.
“It’s alive,” Niall yelled, scaring her to death. Gray stepped on the brakes in the hallway trying to regain her breath. Louis stepped out from around the corner holding onto Spencer.
“Oh thank god,” Gray sighed trying to grab the baby from him.
“Heck no, you have her all the time,” he crabbed, stepping away from her. Gray pouted, but she understood.
“How long have you been here,” she asked. Her eyes darted around the open living room and kitchen, everything seemed to still be in place so it couldn’t have been that long.
“Since eight or something. We came by, Liam looked like death. Guess Eggo had been up all night,” Niall casually told her. Fear came over her face.
“Wait, he was up all night? Why didn’t he wake me! And you cannot call her Eggo,” she barked at them. Niall put his hands up in defense.
“Settle tiger, I just come here for the food. He got through it just fine, Liam’s just tired. And Eggo has been her name since forever,” Louis piped up at her. Gray took a breath, there was no reason to flip out on them.
“Please tell me he has coffee in this house,” she mumbled walking past them.
“Mommy is very crappy in the morning little Eggo, always have coffee around,” he cooed to the baby in his arms. Gray looked to see her smiling up at him. She fought he urge to flip him off right then and there. She quickly whipped up a cup of joe in his Kuerig. The brown steamy liquid tasted amazing going down and immediately gave her energy."Okay, I'm normal again. Call off the guards," she signaled putting her hands up in the air. Niall and Louis both laughed.
"Fill me in, how's life," she asked following them into the small living room. They all sat down while Louis kept little Spencer in his arms.
"Our fourth album comes out in Feburary. Another tour for you to come and get hurt on," Niall joked. Gray laughed, but felt indifferent about it. Would that even be a possiblity?
"I take it you too haven't figured your lives out yet," Louis chimed in, picking up on her sour vibe.
"You have a point Gray, just listen to yourself," he told her. Gray knew, of course she knew. It didn't take a scientist to figure out they had horrible ways of communicating.
"I know, I plan on speaking to him tonight about it, we have to figure it out." Both the boys looked at each other giving a look.
"You may want to wait on that Gray," Louis warned.
"Spit it out Tomlinson," she groaned. Louis handed the baby over to Niall before standing.
"He's taking you out tonight." What? No, she just got here! Couldn't she just have a night to sit on her butt and eat her feelings with him? Going out, having the press all over them didn't sound like fun.
"Stop making that face. It's good for you to get out. When is the last time you went someplace other then a grocery store?" Her face blushed, make that forever.
"That's not fair, I have a kid and Mila's pregnant. My options are slim back home," she bit back.
"Nonsense, you are going and you are going to be nice to him because he put a lot of effort into this," Louis dictated. She waved him off. Fine, one night she will go and try to have fun. It shouldn't kill her.
"Wait, who is going to watch Spencer?" Niall gave her an evil smile.
"Don't worry about it."
----
This was a bad idea. She hadn't worn anything this short and shoes this high in a very long time. One swift move and her bits would be shown or a broken ankle would happen. Just what she needed, an injury and a headline in the paper. She looked in the mirror trying to pull the dress down farther one last time before walking out of the bathroom.
"Alright, if I get hurt you pay the medical bills," she hollered down the hallway. Liam stood up from the couch, holding Spencer. His mouth fell open at the sight of her. She looked then amazing. Gray's body had changed so much but in a good way. She was beyond hot.
"Shut your trap before a fly gets in boy," she smiled at him. Gray looked over to see Spencer still in just a sleeper.
"You not going to get her dressed," she asked. Liam shook his head no.
"Babysitter. We need time without her cute face." Gray looked at him funny. A babysitter was news to her, and not in a good way. She barely knew anyone in this town.
"Settle love, it's a good babysitter. Go grab your purse." She followed his orders, grabbing her essentials and purse before following him out the door. Liam still had a grip on Spencer along with her diaper bag. He stepped into the elevator waving her on.
"Where are we going," she asked feeling beyond confused. Liam hit the button for level 9 and stood back.
"Your babysitter lives up here." He smiled. Gray wasn't convinced. Secrets with her daughter wasn't okay. Things needed to be in line for a child. She tapped her foot in place becoming more and more frustrated. Liam picked up on it and moved closer to her.
"Love, don't worry. I would never leave her with someone I didn't trust, ok?" His eyes looked into her eyes. Gray knew he was telling the truth at that point, he wouldn't mess up a good thing.
"Ok," she whispered quietly. Liam quickly kissed her as the elevators pinged and opened. Liam used his free hand to grabbed her as they walked out. Liam didn't go too far before knocking on a door. Gray felt like she was on pins and needles right now. The door swung open to reveal a older woman with dark hair. Gray couldn't believe her eyes.
"Anne! Oh my god," she screamed running into her arms. It was way too long and immediately made her start to cry.
"Goodness dear you look amazing as a Mommy," Anne gushed giving Gray's body a once over.
"Thank you. I cannot believe you are here! Are you the babysitter?" Anne shook her head yes. Liam breezed past them joining Harry on the couch. Anne pulled Gray into the kitchen where they could catch up.
"So tell me about this job you got." Gray dropped her mouth, how did she know?
"Perrie told me," Anne told her, shrugging her shoulders.
"Damnit, she is supposed to keep her mouth shut," Gray groaned.
"Don't worry dear, I'm not going to tell anyone. Knowing the look on your face you haven't told Mr. Fiance yet either." Gray traced the wood lines on the counter.
"You need to tell him Gray."
"I know, I plan too. We actually have a lot to talk about. And for the record I haven't taken the job yet either." She gave Anne a wink before leaving the kitchen.
"Jailbait you ready? I'm hungry," she moaned. They hopped off the couch and headed to the door.
"Call me if you need me, for anything," Gray pleaded to her.
"Dear, if I can raise Harry I can take any baby." The two walked out hearing Harry complain from the couch. Liam grabbed her hand and pulled her in close.
"Ready love?" She smiled up at him.
"Ready."
----
"Cheers to you love." Liam smiled and clinked his glass with hers. They sat at dinner after going through all the press outside. It was a whirlwind but at least she looked very hot right now. Cool, calm and collected. They ordered their food and continued on with their drinks. The thought kept nagging at the back of Gray's mind about San Francisco, she needed to tell him now before it was too late.
"Liam, I need to talk to you about something." Her hands started to sweat. She had no clue how he was going to take the news.
"Nothing is set and stone yet so don't freak out. I have plenty of time to figure everything out but I wanted to keep you in the loop. Especially with everything that is going down between us. It's a really great opportunity and something I really want to pursue." Her words trailed off as she tried to figure out what to say.
"Love, spit it out already," he barked back. Whatever it was, she needed to start talking.
"I've been offered a job in San Francisco with a photography publishing company." She could see his jaw tighten. The sweating poured out of her even more.
"What?" She could barely hear his voice over the background music in the restaurant.
"I picked up a hobby, and I'm really good at it." He took another long drink of his wine before speaking.
"So you just decided to tell me this now? While you knew all this time? Why San Francisco, why not here where I am?" Gray looked down at her plate, unable to speak.
"Answer. Me." The tune in his voice made her body shake. He never played this super dominant card like he was.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think was a phone call type of conversation. I applied to a lot of places, San Francisco is the one who called," she simply told him telling herself to stay calm inside. This wasn't the place for an argument.
"Why not here," he asked again.
"I couldn't find any places to apply here." It was a lie, but better then the truth.
"I don't believe you, finish your food," Liam barked at her. Gray set her fork down too hard making the other tables look at her.
"Cut the attitude Liam. What? Now you going to go bitch me out at home," she tried to keep her voice down as low as possible. He stared cold at her again.
"No, I actually was going to surprise you with an after party with others. Not withhold information from you, which you seem to do pretty great at," he sniped at her. Gray rolled her eyes. Yes, he had a right to be angry but not to act like a child.
"I'm sorry Gray, I'm just a bit shocked. You come here, I expect for us to figure our our lives together and then you decide to tell me you are moving to California. Not quite the conversation I was expect to happy,"he said calmly, but Gray could hear the sarcastic tone in his voice.
"Apparently you should clean your ears, I told you I hadn't decided anything yet. Right now though with you attitude it's looking like 'Hi Ho California," she wiped her face on her napkin," let's go."
She stood up fast, grabbing her purse and headed towards the exit. Liam jumped up just as fast taking the place in front of her. There was no hand holding lovey doveyness. Just a lot of pure anger. He walked out before her leaving at good three foot gap between them. The press went crazy for it.
"Are you tell falling apart?"
"Do we see a breakup coming?"
"Who will get custody of your child?"
The last comment struck a nerve in Gray. It took all her might not to turn around and slap the crap out of whoever said it. She just kept walking faster, keeping her head down. They jumped into the awaiting cab and headed off. Neither of them spoke but you could feel the torture between them.
"Where are we going," she spat.
"You chose, it's your life." Gray wanted to hit him so bad, it would of given her such a satisfaction.
"I would like to go hang with my friends." Liam leaned forward giving the driver the directions. As soon as the cab pulled up, Gray jumped out leaving him behind. She could figure out where everyone was on her own. She brushed past the line outside and headed in. Her eyes immediately started ringing from the loud music but she didn't care. She needed her friends and a very large drink. Gray spotted them over in the VIP section, she headed over ignoring the stares and joined them.
"Gray you are here," Harry cheered from the couch. She smiled at them all before grabbing a random drink off the table and chugging it down.
"I see you had a good dinner," Perrie dumbfounded. Liam joined them up the stairs looking just as pissed as Gray. Everyone could tell something happened.
"Love, let's get a drink." Perrie pulled Gray away from the group leading her to the bar.
"Bad dinner?" Gray snorted at her. Bad was an understatement.
"Can I get a shot of tequila and a vodka lemonade," she ordered to the bartender.
"That's a lot of alcohol for you," Perrie warned. Gray threw her a look.
"I know that and I will hate this tomorrow but after this shit dinner I had with that man I deserve it." She downed the shot making a sour face. Tequila is nasty, but it gets the job done.
"Whatever you say, Gray whatever you say."
----
The drinks were a bad idea. Within fifteen minutes she could barely hold it together. Now an hour later Gray was in full force drunk mode. She danced with Perrie and everyone else except Liam. He just continued to glare at her from his position in the corner. She couldn't stand it anymore, he was killing her vibe completely. Gray grabbed a drink from the table, quickly downing it before walking over to him.
"Where are you shoes," he asked with a stone cold face. Gray sat on his lap carefully making sure she didn't fly anyone. Liam kept his arms at his side.
"I took them off. You know how I feel about heels," she smiled. Slow and steady drunk Gray, don't sound stupid.
"I see you are having a good time," he murmured, slowly bringing down his wall.
"I am, and I wish you would enjoy yourself too and not stare at me constantly," she told him. Liam's hand rested on the side of her hip.
"Can't help it love, I have a lot on my mind." She knew what he was talking about even being drunk. Gray rested her head on his shoulder.
"I told you I hadn't decided yet. You and Spencer are my first choice but I don't know what will happen to us, I have to protect myself," she whispered.
"Love, that is my job," Liam responded. Both his hands were on her body now, pulling her close into him.
"You can't protect me when you never see me or care to show up. Phone calls don't protect people. I waited for you to surprise me, you never did." Secrets fall out a lot easier when you had liquor in your system.
"Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"Because I'm pretty sure you just didn't care. You could careless." Liam grabbed her face quickly making her look at him.
"I always cared, everyday." Gray jumped up from his lap pulling on his arms.
"Well I don't care at this point, let's dance."
----
Liam practically had to carry her back to the flat. She was awake and coherent but due to the sleep schedule change Gray barely moved. Her body hung on to him as they rode up in the elevator.
"What about Spencer," she groggily asked.
"Anne has her, she was already planning on keeping her overnight." The doors opened and he walked to the door.
"I need sleep," Gray whined.
"Yes I know that love," he sighed back. Right now he didn't know what to think. He just wanted answers. They walked through the doorway and headed straight for his bed. Gray stripped out of dress and fell into bed. Her limbs laid everywhere looking like she just survived a car wreck. Liam sighed again and got undressed.
