Chapter Eight
Quin’s POV
Two weeks.
Melody and Liam hadn’t spoken in two weeks and it was driving her mad, which, in turn, was driving me mad. She wouldn’t shut up about how much she missed him (“but there’s no way in hell I’m calling him”) and she wished he would text her (“but I won’t be texting him back”).
“God, just call him already!” I yelled one day. “I have had it up to here,” I put my hand two feet above my head. “with your constant bitching! If you miss him so much, then call him. Damn, a phone works both ways, you know!”
“Quin, you don’t understand what would happen if I called another guy.” Mels shook her head.
“You’ve talked to him on the phone before!”
“Yeah, when Mitch wasn’t on campus or didn’t have people spying on my all the time! I don’t know where any of his people are and I don’t know when they’ll be around! So I can’t just call him!”
“Then text him or something! You’re driving us both insane!” I threw both of my hands up in defeat.
“You’ve never been in my position, have you?” I shook my head, looking at the floor. “Then you don’t understand how I feel about him.” I took a deep breath to reply, but decided to keep my mouth shut. I didn’t want another argument between the two of us. “I love him, and he loves me. It’s as simple as that.”
“You know Liam would be better for you.”
“I don’t know that.”
“But you do…” I said as softly and sincerely as I could. “Liam wouldn’t ever lay a finger on you… doesn’t that sound better?”
“Liam wouldn’t love me like Mitchell does… nobody would love me like Mitchell does.” How could she think that?
“Mels…”
“No, Quin. He… he takes care of me. All he wants is for me to be okay in life, and as far as I know, I am. So can we please just… drop it?”
“Fine.” I sighed and opened up my history book.
I couldn’t believe Mitchell had her so brainwashed. She thought so little of herself that she was okay with him hitting her because ‘no one would love her as much as he does’. I pulled out my mobile and texted Liam.
Quin: You thought right about Mitchell… I need a huge favour from you.
Liam: I knew it… what’s the favour?
I looked over at my best friend who was hunched over her books trying to study.
Quin: I need you to ask her over for a movie or something. Show her there are still some good guys out there who won’t hurt her.
Liam: No problem :) I’ll ask her now.
Quin: Thanks. I really appreciate it.
Melody’s POV
Why was Algebra so hard? It was just numbers (with a few letters thrown in here and there)! I used to be so good at this in high school… I guess that’s what I get for taking a semester from math off.
I looked down at my mobile as it buzzed next to me. I smiled the instant I saw Liam’s name show up on the screen.
Liam: So, I know you’ve been ignoring me, and I’m really sorry for upsetting you… is there any way we could hang out next time you’re available? I really miss talking to you.
I smiled as my thumbs moved across the screen of my iPhone.
Mels: Of course we can :) I’m available this Saturday if you’d like to watch a movie at your place. I miss talking to you, too.
Liam: Sounds great! I’ll see you Saturday.
Liam: Do you want me to pick you up?
Mels: No! I’ll drive. Don’t worry about it.
Liam: Alright. See ya then! X
I smiled at my phone and set it to the side after deleting the texts, making sure Mitchell would never find them.
“What’s got you so happy?” I looked over at the sound of my best friend’s voice, almost forgetting she was in the room.
“Liam and I are hanging out at his place Saturday while Mitch is out of town.”
“Oh? Yay! What are you two going to do?”
“I don’t know.” I shrugged and twirled my pen in my hand. “Probably watch a few movies like we did last time.”
“Sounds… fun?”
“It was last time. Quite relaxing as well.” I shrugged.
“Alright, well I hope you have fun.”
“I do, too.” I smiled and pushed myself out of my chair at my desk and walked over to my bed, checking the time. After noticing it was after midnight, I decided to call it a night. “I’m turning in for the night. Good night.”
“Night.”
Liam’s POV
I put my phone away and sat on the edge of my bed.
So what was I going to do to convince Melody she was too good to be with this asshole? How was I going to let her know there were better options? Like…
Well like me.
Thank God I had three days to try and figure this out, I’d be screwed otherwise.
