Chapter Fifteen
Liam’s POV
I walked into Quin and Melody’s apartment the next day, hoping Melody had already gone to classes so I could talk to Quin. “Hey.” I smiled as Quin walked out of her room. She eyed me up and down before smirking at me.
“You naughty, naughty boy.”
“No!” I groaned in embarrassment.
“Oh yes… do you play guitar?” Quin asked as she rummaged through her fridge for something to eat for breakfast.
“What?”
“Well apparently you’ve got some skilled fingers there, sir.”
“Oh my god.” I groaned and sat down on one of the chairs at their small table. “I just came by to talk to you about this, but I guess Melody already beat me to it.”
“Okay, I get that you’re dating… and other things… with my best friend, but I don’t need you telling me about the tiny details.”
“No, I…” I sighed as she took a seat across from me with leftover Chinese takeout for breakfast.
“Question… Niall’s single right? And plays the guitar?”
“Quin, seriously. I have to talk to you about something.”
“Only if you tell me what I need to know.”
“Yes, he’s single. Yes he plays guitar. Yes, I’ll give you his number after this conversation. I really need a second opinion here.”
“Okay… okay, sorry.” Quin said and looked at me, as focused as she possibly could.
Quin’s POV
“I… okay, this is gonna sound really stupid, but I don’t feel like what Mels and I did was okay.”
“You ruined my couch, dude.” I said as I took a bite of my leftover rice.
“Not like that.” Liam’s face turned three shades darker. “I mean… I feel like I took advantage of her. Like it wasn’t what she wanted.”
“From what she told me, she wanted it, and she wanted it bad.”
“What if she felt like she had to because I kissed her first? I pulled her closer? I—“
“I promise you, she wanted to.” The sincerity in my voice was strange, considering the topic. “If anything, she took advantage of you. Seriously, call the police cos I’m pretty sure you were raped.” Liam buried his face in his hands. “I mean, she didn’t tell me about the whole sex part, but I could tell by the look on her face it was good.”
“We didn’t have sex…” Liam raised an eyebrow. “Did she say we did?”
“Well, no, I kinda just assumed… damn! You got her smiling like that and humming while she was making dinner last night and there wasn’t any sex? What did you do?” At this point, I could almost feel the heat from Liam’s face.
“I—I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Come on… Melody already told me everything… and I mean you got some long fingers—“
“Seriously, Quin. I don’t feel like it’s my place to talk about it.”
“Aww, are you uncomfortable?” Liam nodded slowly. “You fingered my best friend on my couch. I should be the one that’s uncomfortable.” Liam’s eyes widened in shock. “I know about the blow job, too.” I grabbed my backpack from the floor and walked out, making my way to my History class.
Melody’s POV
I walked into the apartment after my Brit Lit class and instantly went to the fridge for a bottle of water and some of last night’s leftover Chinese takeout before grabbing my antidepressant. They weren’t too bad, I suppose. I have felt a little bit better now that I was taking them on a regular basis.
As soon as I heard the door open, I smiled and turned around, ready to give Liam a kiss before taking my antidepressants. To my surprise and horror, it wasn’t Liam I was about to kiss, but Mitchell. “What are you doing here?” I asked, backing against the fridge to get as far away from him as possible.
“What? You think some pretty boy can get in a few good hits and I’m just going to give up on us?” That’s what I was hoping.
“Mitchell—“
“God, shut up.” He rolled his eyes and grabbed my hand that had the little blue pill in it. “What’s this?”
“Nothing of your concern.” I said and snatched my hand away and opened my bottle of water as Mitchell registered what had just happened. I quickly downed the medicine and put my leftovers in the microwave to heat them up. Just as the timer went off, I felt two arms wrap around my waist and lift me off the ground. “Put me down!” I screamed as I kicked my legs and hit his arm, hoping he would let go.
“You’ve put on some weight, haven’t you? You always were a fat ass.”
“Put me down!” I screamed again, giving it everything I had to try and get out of his grip. “Liam will be here soon. He’ll call the police.”
“Do you think I give a fuck what the hell Liam does!?” Mitchell threw me down onto the ground. I quickly stumbled to my feet and tried to get out of the apartment and away from him, but I didn’t move fast enough. Mitchell grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the door before the back of his right hand met my right cheek. “You’re coming with me, and you’re staying with me.” I was in too much shock to register his words. I hadn’t been hit in weeks, and it stung. Had it always hurt this bad? I felt a tight grip on my upper arm as he dragged me out of the apartment. As he dragged me through the lobby, people turned away from us, acting as if they didn't see a man violently dragging a woman through the lobby. Are people really this naïve?
The second I saw Mitchell’s car, panic washed over me and I instantly tried to pull away from him. “Dammit, stay still and get in the fucking car!” He yelled and pulled me closer.
“Get off of me!” I screamed, hoping someone would hear me and stop this. “Help! Please!” I was almost in tears over the fear inside of me. Mitchell grabbed both of my arms and threw me into his car, slamming the door shut behind me. I fumbled with the lock on the door as he ran to the driver’s side, hoping to make an escape before he started the car and took off, but I had no such luck. By the time I unlocked the door, he was racing away from the apartment complex. I watched as Liam’s car pulled into the parking lot. I watched as he got out of his car and smiled down at his phone before running into the building, expecting to find me in my kitchen, eating leftover Chinese. I watched as the building disappeared from view as Mitchell drove me to his house.
Liam’s POV
I rolled my eyes as a car raced out of the parking lot as I pulled in. I got out of my car and checked my phone.
Mels: Just let yourself in. I’ll be too busy stuffing my face to answer the door. Love you! X
I smiled and ran into the building. I couldn’t wait to see her again. I was pathetic. I had just seen her a few hours ago, and I already missed her. As soon as I was on her floor, I ran to her door and swung it open, but I wished I hadn’t. She wasn’t there, but her backpack was. Maybe she was just in the bathroom. I walked over to the bathroom and knocked on the door. Nothing. I sighed and walked into the kitchen to help myself to something to eat.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
I opened the microwave and saw Melody’s leftovers. She left without even eating? That wasn’t like her. I pulled out my mobile and quickly found her number in my phone book and dialed her number before searching the rest of the apartment.
After not answering three of my calls, and one more going straight to voicemail, I was getting worried. Just as I was about to call Quin, she walked through the door. “Do you know where Mels is?” I asked, trying to call Melody once again.
“No, she’s usually here after her classes.” Quin said, looking around. “I’m sure she’s just in her room or something. Her backpack’s here.”
“I checked her room, the bathroom, and your room.”
“You went in my room?”
“She’s not answering her phone and I’m starting to worry.”
“You went in my room?”
“When I got here the microwave was going off and her food was still in there, so she didn’t even eat. If she took that pill without eating she could get seriously sick and—“
“You went in my room?!”
“Quin! I looked everywhere in the apartment for her… yes I went in your damn room.” I ran my fingers through the little hair I had on my head. “Look, your best friend isn’t here.”
“She’s probably just out with some of her other friends.” Quin shrugged.
“Her other friends don’t live close enough for her to go see. The last time she saw them was on her birthday.” I recalled the first night we met.
“Oh yeah… hold on let me call her.” Quin said as she pulled her mobile out of her back pocket.
“Did you not just hear me say that she’s not answering any of her phone calls?”
“Mels! Hey where are you? Liam’s worried sick.” There was a pause as she listened to the other line. Wait, she had answered Quin’s phone call, but not mine? Did I do something wrong? “Are you okay? You don’t sound too good.” I held my hand out, hoping Quin would hand the phone over. “Hold on.” She handed the phone over to me and I pressed it to my ear.
“Babe?” I questioned.
“Li-Liam,” she sniffled.
My eyebrows drew together. “Where are you? What’s wrong?” I asked immediately knowing that she wasn’t okay.
“I’m… Mitchell...” The line went dead. I pulled the mobile away seeing that the call had ended.
“Fuck!” I cursed running my hand over my head frantically.
“What?” Quin asked in confusion.
“He has her.” I told her grabbing my keys and walking back towards the door.
“Who has her?” Quin asked following after me.
“That sick bastard.” I spat.
Quin’s eyes widened. “Mitch?” I nodded. “But how did he find her?” I shrugged wondering the same thing. “Where are you going?” She asked.
“To find my girlfriend.” I responded angrily.
“Wait! Shouldn’t we call the police?”
“You call them and I’ll find Mel.” The door closed behind me and I stormed out of the housing building to my car. This could not be happening.
Melody’s POV
My mobile lit up constantly in Mitchell’s as Liam’s name came across the screen. I wanted nothing more than to answer it and tell him I needed help. I felt sick and weak due to not eating after taking my pill, so there was no use in putting up a fight. Moments later, Quin’s name came across the screen and Mitchell handed the phone over to me. “Let her know you’re okay.” He said as I swiped my finger over the screen to answer. I put the phone up to my ear and
“Quin?”
“Mels! Hey, where are you? Liam’s worried sick.”
“I’m… I’m just out.” I sniffed and looked up at Mitchell who was watching my every move.
“Are you okay? You don’t sound too good.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I…”
“Hold on.” This was not the time for her to be telling me to hold on.
“Babe?” Liam!
“Li-Liam,” I sniffed and sighed with relief. I needed to hear his voice. As soon as his name left my lips, Mitchell stood up and made his way across the room. I gripped onto the phone as tightly as I could to stay on the phone with Liam as long as possible.
“Where are you? What’s wrong?” I closed my eyes and tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over my cheeks.
“I’m… Mitchell…” The phone left my hands and I looked up at Mitchell as he tapped the screen, ending the call.
“You knew Liam was there with her, didn’t you?” I shook my head frantically. “How many times have I told you to not lie to me?” Mitchell calmly said before bringing his hand forcefully onto my cheek.
“I didn’t lie to you!” I screamed and watched as shock covered Mitchell’s face.
“We can’t have you yelling like that, sweetheart. You’ll attract a crowd. We don’t want that now, do we?” Mitchell ran his finger along my cheek where his hand had just hit not even a minute ago. I fought the urge to bit his finger, knowing that would just end badly for me. Mitchell kneeled down in front of me and placed his hands on my thighs. “I’ve missed you so much.” His hands slowly crept up my legs. “More than you know.”
I grabbed his wrists, stopping his hands from going any further. “Don’t even think about it.” I hissed at him. I wasn’t going to let him have his way with me. Liam would probably be here soon, anyway.
Mitchell brought his lips to my ear. “I know you want to, baby.”
“I really don’t.” I said and lightly pushed him away from me.
“Believe me,” He grabbed my wrists and pulled me to him. “You do.” His lips attached to my neck and I tried to wiggle out of his grasp, but he only wrapped his arms around me, holding me still.
“Get off!” I yelled, hitting his chest the best I could.
“Shut up!” His hand met my cheek once again as the doorbell rang. “I’ll be right back.” Mitchell said and pushed off the ground in front of me and walked towards the door. I quietly stood up and ran to the bathroom, shutting and locking the door behind me.
I walked into Quin and Melody’s apartment the next day, hoping Melody had already gone to classes so I could talk to Quin. “Hey.” I smiled as Quin walked out of her room. She eyed me up and down before smirking at me.
