It Takes Patience
Chapter 16: Caught in the middle
*Harry’s POV*
I had to put a pillow on my lap to hide my bulge that would surely show through the covers before Dr. Baker walked in. She told me that flirty nurse Lily had mixed my meds with another Harold in the building and that she had been fired. Dr. Baker continued on about how she was sure that she heard whistling coming out of Lily’s ears when the wind blew and how I could have died from the mistake that she made. I brushed off what Lily did and pretended to listen to Dr. B, but I couldn’t take my mind off Reagan. What is she doing to me that makes me want her so much?! And why did she leave like that? I ran my hand through my hair shook it, and swiped it off my face into a quiff then sunk back onto the bed.
“Besides Lily’s idiotic mistake that made you ill, how are you feeling Harold? Paul told me you were in quite a mood this morning.”
“I’m fine, I was just annoyed that I had to get up early.” I lied to her not wanting to tell her about the dream and think I had a relapse in behavior. She looked as if she believed the lie I told and gathered her things to leave telling me that Paul would be here in the morning to bring me back to Maudsley.
*Reagan’s POV*
When I got back home I went straight to Laurie’s to tell her that Peyton finally asked me out. For some reason I couldn’t bring myself to tell her about my setback with Harry. I feel weak and stupid for giving in to him already. What is wrong with me? He’s a patient. There’s something wrong with him and what we’re doing, whatever it is, its wrong. I put that in the back of my mind and made Laurie come to my place to help me pick out something to wear.
“What about this? Yes this is perfect! You can put your hair in a bun and dress it with gold accessories to bring out your eyes.” Laurie said holding up my blue hi-low skirt and a black bustier.
“Are you sure it’s not too much?”
“No, it’s great and flirty! Just put on some sandals with it.” she said winking at me. I laughed at her and agreed while turning on some music and went to get in the shower and wash my hair. I ran my hands over my face and rubbed my bottom lip when lust-filled green eyes popped into my head. I shook off the vision and hopped out of the shower to find Laurie sitting on my bed eating pizza. She put her plate down and walked over to me so that she could help me dry my hair. When it was finished, I got dressed and allowed Laurie to do my bun and make-up.
“You look hot!” Laurie yelled at me after wolf whistling. She reminds me so much of Channel.
Two minutes later there was a knock at the door. I went to go answer it and saw Peyton when I opened it. He cleaned up nice. He wore a black blazer, a white button up, dark wash blue-jeans and black boots. He handed me a single pink rose and held out his arm for me to take being ever the gentleman. I asked Laurie to lock up for me and smiled at her before we left.
When we got to the restaurant the scenery was amazing. There was low lighting, candles on every table and the outside seating surrounded a huge fountain with lighting that changed colors. We took our seats outside and began talking about our life at home, what school we studied at and what we like most about interning at the hospital. Everything was fine until that subject came up. Peyton continued to talk and Harry’s face came back in my mind. His laugh, his smart ass attitude, his touch, seeing him shirtless, and the way he kissed me today so possessively. I closed my eyes and ran my hand up the back of my neck reveling in the memory as I felt my cheeks begin to flush. He was taking over me and he didn’t even have to be here.
“...I think it’s what makes Maudsley unique and special, don’t you?” Peyton looked at me as I snapped out of my own head. I nodded in agreement while smiling then took a sip of my wine. I feel so bad. I hadn’t been paying attention to a word he was saying just then. Peyton seemed like a total sweet heart and deserved my undevided attention at least.
“So how is your friend? He seemed pretty sick earlier.”
“Oh, Harry is okay now. There was a mix up with his medicine I think.” Now even when I’m trying not to think about him he’s brought up to me. We gathered our things when dinner was over and Peyton paid the bill. I kept telling myself to forget Harry, but when we went for a walk there were green lights on the bridge that reminded me of his eyes.
I forced myself to pay more attention to Peyton as the night went on, and he’s actually a wonderful guy who's clearly into spoiling his girl. I could get used to this. When the night ended, Peyton walked me to my door.
“I had a really nice time tonight Reagan” he said in his cute British accent.
“I had a nice time too Peyton; I hope that we can do it again sometime.”
“I would like that very much.” He said before it fell silent. Peyton’s head tilted towards mine and I closed the space between us. When our lips met, I noticed how softly he kissed me and how gentle it felt. I smiled up at him and went inside my apartment. When I closed the door I leaned up against it not being able to shake how guilty I felt. I quickly took my hair down and changed into my favorite sweater and some jeans before looking at the clock. It was now 11:45 p.m. and though I realized what I was doing wasn’t a good idea, I couldn’t stop myself. I had to go see Harry.
