Malik's Daughter
Chapter 9 - Worst Day of My Life
Ellie's POV:
My mother pushed her way past Uncle Harry, Uncle Louis, Aunt Sam, and Aunt Eleanor, arriving at the front door. Her face was tear-streaked, her mascara wiped all over her face. She had a pained expression on her face. I felt guilty for leaving her like that.
But I couldn't believe she wouldn't tell me earlier. Why did she lie about who my father was? Why didn't anyone else tell me about my father? They knew Zayn too, right? What was so secretive about him being my dad? I didn't get it. And it hurt me to know my own mother had lied to me about her past, which also had a significant amount of impact on me.
"Ellie," mum whispered.
"Ellie, we're so glad you're back!" Aunt Eleanor said.
"We were worried sick about you!" Uncle Louis exclaimed.
"Your mother wouldn't stop crying," Uncle Harry added with a smirk on his face.
"Ellie, come in, dear," Aunt Sam said, gesturing inside.
I stared at them, dumbfounded. What was happening? Why weren't they yelling at me? They were being nice. That was the last thing I'd expected, especially from my mother. She was supposed to start screaming her head off right now. She was off schedule! What's going on? Did I miss like 50 years of my life or something in which everyone changed their personalities? I was so confused...
"Ellie!" Harriet called from the top of the stairs inside the house, "Ellie! You're back!" she came running down the stairs and enveloped me into a hug.
A hug was the last thing I wanted right now. I wriggled myself free from her hold.
"Ellie, please come in dear. We've got to talk to you," Aunt Sam said.
I shook my head, still not uttering a word.
"Ellie, listen to me. Your mother did the right thing. She was protecting you," Uncle Louis said.
Ok that blew my head off the horn, "Protecting me? Protecting me from what, exactly? The truth? The facts? My own father?" I screamed.
My mother began sobbing again.
"Ellie, please, calm down. We'll tell you everything. Come inside," Aunt Eleanor said.
"No! I'm not stepping inside a house where liars are present," I retorted, turning on my heel.
"El, wait!" My mother called, "You've got every right to be mad at me. Just let me explain," she said between sobs.
"Explain what? I know everything I need to know. I have one of a kind parents. The world's only mother who keeps secrets from her daughter. And the world's only father who doesn't know who his daughter is. Mum, I know you had me as an accident. Neither of you wanted to be parents at such a young age. Neither of you wanted me. That's why Zayn broke up with you. You had no choice but to bear with me. I know I wasn't wanted then, and the same seems to have applied ever since. You've been lying to me since I was born so I never found out who my father was. I'm not wanted now either, nor will I ever be. There's nothing left for you to explain," I said.
That ended our conversation. I didn't want to ever speak to her, or even see her again. I ran away from Uncle Louis and Aunt Eleanor's house as fast as I could. I had no idea where my feet were taking me, but I was letting them free. I didn't care where I ended up, as long as I didn't have to speak to my mum, or even Zayn ever again. I ran farther and farther away until I couldn't recognize the streets anymore. I was truly lost. I didn't know where I'd come from or where I was. Not even where I was headed. I came to a stop.
Looking around, my eye caught a street sign across the road. I was on a street I'd never been on before. I was in a part of town I'd never explored. The sun had begun to set. Soon it would get too dark for me to be roaming around the streets of town alone. I didn't know how to get back home if I wanted to.
Fear crept into me. Tears began rolling down my cheeks one by one. My head spun and my fingers trembled. I began sobbing. This was officially the worst day of my life, apart from the day I was born.
