Five Lovestories

Chapter Thirty-Five, "Happily Ever After"

As we pulled in between two cars on the street, the few clouds that had been laying over us, beginned to blow away. I smiled as Harry opened the door for me again, and I stepped out in the summer-weather. Even though it was September, it had been sunny every day. This was a day like that. Cold, but sunny. The "limousine" drived away.

"Okay, Harry.. Explain it again. What are we doing here?" I asked him.

"Well, I want to show you something." He smiled.

Then he took my hand, and started walking. My hand felt good in his, even though this wasn't exactly a romantic moment, it was more a moment when he forced me to come with him. We walked along the pavement, until his eyes landed on a building ahead of us, and his smile was pure gold. I wondered what that building meant to him, or what was inside. "W.Mandeville", I read in my head. I had never heard of that. Then Harry crossed the street so we was in front of the store.

"What's this place?" I asked and looked at him.

"You'll see." He smirked and pushed the door open.

The first thing that hit me was the smell. The smell of cookies, cakes, bread and grocery. I looked around, it was a bakery! There was a few people in there, but other than them, it looked like a quiet, little place most people didn't know about. Behind the desk, there was one young man and one older woman. Both of their eyes went straight on us when the door opened, and both of them smiled.

"Hi Harry!" The older woman said. "Are you ready?"

Harry put his finger over his mouth.

"Shh! She doesn't know about it yet." He said and hugged her over the desk.

"Hi Jack." Harry smiled and brofisted the young man.

Then, an even older woman got out of the door that I guessed led in to the kitchen. The woman was holding two flat boxes in her hand, and as she was coming towards us, she had a big grin on her face. What was going on here?!

"Barbara!" Harry said and hugged her.

Then he stood next to me again.

"You must be Kathleen." She smiled.

"That's right. And you must be.. Barbara." I said and she laughed loudly.

"Oh dear, you were right. She is really something." She said towards Harry.

I was very confused. And the next thing I knew, Barbara handed over the boxes to us, one to Harry and one to me. I exchanged a fast look with Harry before we both opened our boxes. It was two red aprons. I suddenly realized that everyone in the store were wearing the same aprons. Harry smirked and threw his jacket off before placing the apron around his waist. I did the same.

"Well, don't you two just look adorable!" Barbara said and merged her hands together.

"Barbara!" Harry hissed and she quickly ended her "motherly" behavor, and stood straight up and then bowed to us.

"I hope you guys have a great time." She smiled and walked away.

"Okay, Harry, you owe me an explanation.." I whispered as he took my hand and walked to the door Barbara had come from.

"Oh, you'll see." He smirked

We got in to a nice, litte kitchen with ovens and machines everywhere. There was ingredients on a counter, and Harry hand brought me there. I saw all kinds of things, and I just wondered what he had planned. Harry raised his hands and looked around in the bakery.

"This is basically where I grew up." Harry said with his hands still in the air.

"Really?"

"Yeah, my dad worked here for years, and then one day, he gave me a job here. It started with just working on the summer, and then after school, and then on the weekends. I started to like it here, you know. So now I'm practically the best baker in England."

I laughed.

"Oh really? What do you bake?"

"Almost everything. That's why I'm so irresistible." Harry grinned and I shoved a towel in his face.

"So let's show me what you got." I said and pointed at the counter.

"No, let's show me what you got!" Harry said and threw the towel back at me.

We were going to make cupcakes, which wasn't so easy for me, but was acoording to Harry:

"A piece of cake." He laughed.

"That's a really bad one." I laughed.

But meantime, we really started to get to know each other.

"So tell me your story." Harry suddenly said.

I looked confused at him, and his big, green eyes stared back at me like it was the most natural thing to ask.

"My story?" I asked and kept whip the dough.

"Yeah, everyone has a story. C'mon, spill it!"

I had to think. It couldn't be that hard, I just had to tell him my entire life in about one minute.

"Well.." I started. "Once upon a time, a baby was born. She was named Kathleen, Stacy, Baker.."

I suddenly stopped. My name was Baker. And I was in a bakery, with Harry.

"Did you plan on taking me here just because my name is Baker?"

"No, actually I just realized it.." He laughed. "We're definitely meant to be."

"Oh stop it!" I laughed. "Okay, let's continue. She grew up in the south England with her two parents, and they were happily married and loved their daughter. The daughter grew up to be an nerd in the school, but also loved by many friends, especially one girl named Sarah. They were best friends for years, and after school, they did everything together. One day, Kathleens mother found out that after years of trying, she still couldn't get pregnant. So the parents decided to adopt a daughter."

Harry listened intense and nodded.

"A little daughter from China, named Faye." I continued. "She grew up with the Baker-family and they basically lived happily ever after, until Kathleen graduated and moved away. She now misses them and they miss her, and Kathleen also met this jerk named Harry, and he was nothing but trou-"

He cut me off by throwing flour in my face. I laughed and took some flour and threw in his face too. You could imagine how it would turn out, a flour-war. But we were both blinded by the flour and and made peace.

"So now it's your turn, Harry." I said and got the last of the goo out of my eyes.

Harry looked at me. He sighed and put the ladle down on the counter.

"What?"

He looked down.

"There's actually some things you don't know about me.." He said low, barely so I could hear it.

"Like what?"

He looked up. What was his eyes telling me? They showed me fear, insecurity and.. shame? What was he about to tell me?

What do you think Harry is going to tell Kath?

What do you think they will do after the baking?
