Forgotten.
Louis.
I must have dozed off, because I wake up and I’m high above the clouds.
I rub my eyes and roll over.
Lux’s seat is empty.
My heart jumps. My eyes scan around the floor.
I get out of my seat and into the aisle of the jet.
I rush up to the front. See if my mother has her.
No Lux.
I look at my mother. Phone in hand. Laughing at Paul next to her.
He looks at me.
“Wassup?”
“Where’s Lux?” I ignore Paul. Look at my mother.
“I thought you had her?”
“Obviously not mom.” I roll my eyes and staunch back down the jet aisle.
“Luxy?!”
My heart is beating fast as I call her name over and over.
I reach the back of the jet and look at the five boys sitting together in a booth.
One is holding my sister.
I scan over her for a second, checking that she’s ok, before looking at her face. She’s smiling, giggling even, in the arms of the sweet-voiced one.
Louis.
“Why’d you take my sister?” I ask him.
“Without permission…” I add sheepishly.
“She was hitting your arm, saying your name, speaking gibberish too you as I walked past. But you were asleep.” He says back, smiling slightly.
“Yeah, she looked pretty lonely.” The blonde one added.
Niall maybe? I couldn’t put my finger on his name.
I stood there, trying to think of a witty come-back.
“Is she ok?” Is all I could say.
“Of course she is.” Louis smiles at me. Turns to Lux. Smiles.
His teeth straight. Perfectly straight.
“You’re ok aren’t you?” He holds her up in his strong hands.
She garbles to him.Shows him her two front, bottom teeth. Her only teeth.
She puts her hand up on his freshly-shaven face.
Opening and closing her fists on his smooth skin.
“Are you tickling me?” he looks at her with a grin.
She chuckles.
He pulls her close to him and gobbles her neck.
She giggles hysterically.
I stand there, dumbfounded, watching how good he is with my sister.
“Lux!” I say in a childish voice.
She turns to me, her smile fading and a look of curiosity comes over her face as if to say:
“Who called my name?”
I smile at her.
She turns back to Louis, putting her hands back on his smooth face.
My heart sinks a little.
“You gotta go back to your sister now!” Louis says, noticing my sunken smile. Standing up and squeezing between his band mates to meet me in the aisle. He comes towards me.
He hands her to me, but she snorts sadly.
Our hands brush and I flinch at his golden touch.
He looks at me with his deep blue eyes.
I see a flash of care; kindness; sweetness in the pools of sapphire.
Lux in my arms, I thank him.
He shyly replies and scurries back to his seat.
I look at Lux. Soft skin. Blonde, fluffy hair.
She garbles at me.
“Wooie.”
She speaks.
Gentle.
Soft.
Calm.
I wince back at her word.
Her second word.
Not Shubee.
She says Louis.
I rub my eyes and roll over.
