Forgotten.
an offer.
We arrive at the venue, and I’m taken aback. I watch the large warehouse go by as Lux snoozes in my arms. Since arriving, the sky has fallen dark, but is alight with twinkles. All I can think is that I wish Lux was awake to see the beauty of the sky.
The van comes to a stop, and to my surprise, the entrance isn’t crowded with screaming girls. I sigh with relief, and look around, noticing that all the others do as well.
The driver gets out and opens the door for us, and I slowly get out, trying not to wake a dozy Lux in my arms.
As we walk towards the two large doors to enter, the boys trail behind in a little group, chatting. Eavesdropping, I hear Zayn’s voice. “Hey Haz, how come they don’t let you drive anymore. I remember you use to drive us everywhere.”
I strain my ears at Harry’s almost silent reply. “They think I’m a dangerous driver. They don’t trust me with driving the band. I think they’re down right nobs.”
Lux stirs at the soft classical music coming from a smooth jazz band off in the corner. She sits up.
She gives a little stretch and moan, than forces herself to sit up, taking in the setting.
The décor is beautiful. The walls are strewn with fairy lights and in the centre of each table that’s spotted around the floor, there’s a vase of flowers and candles.
A guy in a dark suit leads us to a 15 seated table and we all sit down. I put a now wide awake Lux down in a highchair and take a seat next to my mother.
A few random people come and take a seat at our table, along with all the boys, me, Lux, my mum and a few of the managers. I'm all fake smiles as people come around, complementing my “beautiful eyes” and “sweet face”. My mother laughs and rubs my arm. I know how fake it is, but I know what the consequences will be if I don’t play along.
A plate of food is dropped in front of me a few short moments later, and I know I haven’t even ordered. Everyone is already digging into theirs, so I take a bite. It’s cold, hard and flavourless. I nod and smile, but push my plate aside.
I look over at Lux, who’s banging her hands in her odd coloured mash potato.

The plates have been taken and everyone’s chatting around the table. My stomach rumbles as I listen to everyone’s conversations. They go from politics with my mum and Paul, to sex with Harry and some random guy.
Everyone hushes as my mother stands up, cutting off Paul with the ting-ting of her spoon on her wine glass.
I look up at her, hoping that she’ll explain what the point of this whole thing.
“Thank you everyone for coming.” She smiles down at the boys. “The money raised here will go to the tour obviously, but I’d like to thank you all for supporting us and I hope you enjoy your night. Now, the band is going to play some music, so get up and dance!”
Wow mom, the band is going to play music so get up and dance? How original…
People start to stand up and move to the dance floor, as the band begins playing some incredibly slow, but kind of sweet tunes.
Most people have partners and are awkwardly shuffling their feet on the dance floor, bodies pressed together. My mother gets up and heads to the dance floor to start dancing with Paul. She places her head on his shoulder.
For some incredibly strange reason, I feel a small feeling of happiness for my mum. At least she’s happy…
I don’t know where the others had gone, but they’d gotten up and left too.
I place my arms on the back of my chair and lean my chin on them, watching the people dancing in the shine of the fairy lights. Lux is out again, her head down on the now clean board of her highchair, her back moving up and down with her slight snores.
I take a deep breath, but just before I can close my eyes, I feel a tap on my shoulder.
I turn to face a smiling Louis. “Hey.”
“Hi.” I smile slightly.
“Enjoying your night?” He asks.
I sigh.
“Can I help with that?” He pauses. “Wanna dance?”
My heart flitters. Of course I want to… “What about Lux, I can’t leave her alone.” I turn to my baby sister, and my eyes widen as I notice Liam and Niall next to her, smiling up at me.
“Go.” Niall smiles.
“Yeah, you deserve it.” Liam adds.
I turn back to look up at Louis, a glint of hope in his eyes.
“In that case, I’d love to.” I stand up and take Louis’ outstretched hand.
