Love and Lies
Chapter 6:
After a few minutes of silence in Layla’s car, I turned to look at her and finally asked what I was dying to know.
“Lay, what did Damien say to you when we were in the house?” She turned to look at me with a little smile on her face.
“I was waiting for you to ask. You’re so nosy,” she said chuckling. “He told me to take care of you and to not let anything happen to us. He said to call him if I need anything and that he loved me.”
“He said he loved you? Oh my God, Layla! That’s huge!” I was so happy. She has been waiting for those words for so long.
“No, Ella. He meant it like as a sisterly love. That’s it.” She looked at me with a stoic look on her face.
“No he didn’t. Damn it, Layla. Stop selling yourself short.” As I finished my sentence, I pulled out my phone and started to dial Damien’s number.
“Ella, who are you calling? Are you calling Damien? What the hell!” Ignoring her, I continued dialing his number.
“Hello? Ella? Did something happen?” His concern clear in his voice as he replied.
“No, no. I just wanted to ask you what you meant when you told Layla you loved her.”
“Oh, I just meant I loved her.”
“Well no duhh. I’m saying did you mean real love or sisterly love?” At this point, Layla is making the “cut it out” signals.
“Is she with you right now?” He asked worriedly.
“No, she’s out pumping gas. So tell the truth.”
“Honestly, Ella, I don’t know what I meant. When you guys were leaving, I just had this urge to tell her that I loved her. I know that I meant it; I just don’t know if I meant real love or sisterly love.”
“Oh, okay. Well look now you got a whole year to figure out your feelings.”
“Ella, please don’t tell her. When I know for sure what I feel I want to tell her.”
“I won’t. Now she’s coming back so I gotta go. Love you.”
“Love you too. Be safe.” He said and hung up the phone. Layla looked at me with sad eyes and said, “Honestly Ella, I know you meant well but you can’t do that.”
“I’m sorry. I just thought it would help and it did. He truly does love you, but he just doesn’t know which way yet.”
“You thought that would help? Now I have this piece of me holding on to the slim chance that he may actually think of me as more than a sister. And if he doesn’t, that shit will destroy me. So yeah, Ella, that didn’t help.” After her little rant, I stayed quiet. I knew she needed time to process everything.
Notes
Sorry this chapter is kind of a filler! Its kind of important for Damien and Layla's possible future relationship and how Ella and Layla interact with that subject.
