Love and Lies
Chapter 3:
Chapter 3
My phone alarm went off at 6:15. Our flight was at 7:30 and Layla was picking me up. As I looked around my room, I started to get a little teary-eyed. I was going to be leaving my home, the only home I’ve ever known, to go live in England with my best friend for a year. We always had this planned. But now it’s real. I’m officially leaving home.
I’m going to miss Mom and how she still told me to be careful every time I left the house, how she bought me Fruity Pebbles every time she went to the store because she knew it was my favorite, how she bought Layla’s favorite food too since she practically lived here. I’m going to miss watching the 6’o clock news with my dad every night. We had done it since I was a little girl. I’m a daddy’s girl through and through. If I ever wanted anything all I had to do was break out my puppy dog eyes. He gave in instantly. And my brother, well Damien and I have a very close relationship. He’s always there for me. He and Layla are a big reason why I haven’t gone crazy yet in this town. Now Layla and I are going on adventure by ourselves. We’re going to be adults for once, and, if that’s not scary I don’t know what is.
“They don’t know what we do best. It’s between me and you, our little secret.”
“Hey Lay,” I said when I picked up the phone.
“Hey”, she said sniffling.
“Layla! What’s wrong?”
“I just…I’m going to miss everyone so much!” Cue the hysterics.
“Ohh Lay! It’s going to be okay! We can come home anytime we want!” I said while sniffling. Damn Layla, getting me all upset.
“I know but we’re going to be in a different country, Ella! It’s not like we’re a couple states away. No, it’s a different country. We have to fly to get there!”
“I know, Layla! But how long have we wanted this; since 9th grade. Now we’re going to be real adults. We have each other though and we’re going to do this.” I said, calming down.
“You’re right. I’m just glad we’re going together. I probably wouldn’t be able to do it by myself,” Layla said, finally relaxing.
“Alright then. Do you want to pick up some breakfast when you come over? I want a bagel.”
“Yeah, I’ll grab something from Dunkin Donuts.”
“Okay, thanks.”
“I’ll see you in like 20 minutes. Is that alright?”
“Yeah. The quicker you get here, the quicker we can go. Bye.”
“Bye.” Layla said hanging up. I turned to my closet; I’m picking out the comfiest outfit ever. I have to be a little bit cute though, because you never know who’s going to be on our flight. (Ella plane outfit http://weheartit.com/entry/62049418/via/therealtherichanel). Okay, I like this, I thought to myself as I looked in my mirror, Cute and comfy.
“Ella! Come down here please.” My mom screams from downstairs.
“Coming!” I scream back, hopping down the steps two at a time.
“Oh my goodness. My baby’s going to leave me! Can’t you just go next year? You’re only 18!”
“Mom. We’ve talked about this. I’ll be fine. You know Layla will watch over me and me over her.”
“Yeah that is true,” My mom said agreeing. Layla is one tough girl. She does not play around when it comes to people she cares about.
“Oh Mila, give it up. The girls are going to be fine. They can take care of themselves, we’ve raised them right,” My dad says coming into the living room. I love how my family automatically includes Layla in everything. But with good reason, Layla and I were inseparable and always have been. Our families practically raised each other.
“But Jonathon, that’s our baby girl.”
“Our baby girl that we have raised pretty damn well.”
“Dad’s right, Mom,” Damien said joining the conversation. “They’ll be fine. And even if Ella doesn’t come back, we can just adopt Layla and it’ll be the same thing.”
“Oh haha, you are so funny.” I said sarcastically to Damien. “What a good older brother you are!”
“Oh Els, you know I love you. I’ll miss you but I’m not gonna lie, the house will be very peaceful without you.”
“Damien, stop messing with your sister.” My mom said as the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” I singsonged on my way to the door. “Oh my God,” I said as I opened it.
“Hey Ella.” Alexander said looking back at me.
