The Mess We Became

Finally

I was very much convinced that I was never going to be happier then I was in this vary moment.

My hand found its way back into the sleeping girl’s hair as I sighed in contentment.

Dawn was here, tucked into my side with her head resting on my chest.

She loved me and I loved her and we both knew it. She wasn’t leaving and I was going to keep it that way for as long as I had breath in my body.

Now if only I could get the knocking on the door to go away without getting up from my perfect little bubble.

It seemed no amount of willing or mental cursing was going to make the person leave so with a deep disappointed sigh I detangled myself from Dawn, trying not to wake her, and pouting at the sudden loss of contact that she mimicked in her sleep.

I padded as quietly as I could through the still barren flat to the door where the insistent noise was coming from.

I opened it just wide enough to poke my head out and rolled my eyes at the sight.

I should have known.

Louis stood beaming at me on the other side.

“So I shall take the fact that you look rather in a better mood then the last time I saw you and that I ran into Dawn’s frazzled looking realtor who was complaining about her not showing up to their meeting this morning, that everything went according to plan.”

I just glared at his smirk. He wasted no time shoving past me and into the flat.

There was a slight hesitance from him as he took in the empty space. I guess that was a common reaction to how different it looked without all of Dawn’s personal touches placed around to make it a home.

Louis must have been thinking about how close everything had come to falling apart because when he looked back at me his smirk was gone and a genuinely relived smile was in its place.

“I’m glad you made it on time.”

For the first time I realized that loosing Dawn wouldn’t have only effected me and Dawn. She meant a lot to us all. We were our own little family.

“Me too.” I said with a nod.

Louis looked me up and down slowly before his smirk returned and he wiggled his eyebrows at me suggestively.

“So? What happened? How did you get her to stay? Did you show her all the Styles moves?”

I opened my mouth to answer but another voice spoke.

“Actually I showed him all the Grey moves.” Dawn said through a yawn as she casually leaned against the door frame leading into her room.

I watched as Louis’ already happy face lit up even more as he rushed Dawn, snatching her in his arms and swinging her around.

“You had me worried.” He said as he set her back on the ground. “Could you image the hell I would have gone through with this one if you left.” He added jabbing his thumb over his shoulder in my direction.

Dawn smiled at me over his shoulder before looking at Louis.

I don’t think I was ever going to get used to the feeling she gave me every time she smiled at me like that.

Unlike before, though, I didn’t have to hold back or hide the urge to kiss her.

I strode over to her, already missing the feeling of her lips on mine as she answered Louis. “I’m not going anywhere any time soon.”

I promptly slid my arms between her and Lou and pulled her close to me and placed a quick, sweet kiss to her lips.

“Well then, does this mean you two are together?” Louis asked from behind me eyeing the both of us.

I smiled down at Dawn, who was grinning at me, before looking back at my mate and nodding.

“FINALLY!!!” His eyes widened and a face splitting smile spread across his lips. “I have to call the others and let them know. Oh and El, she’ll kill me if I don’t tell her first.”

He walked away, cell phone to his ear, leaving me and Dawn alone.

“Good morning.” I said finally.

She giggled and pecked my lips. “G’morning.”

“You look beautiful.”

It wasn’t a lie. Her face flushed from just waking up, half lidded eyes and slightly messy hair made her look naturally pretty and the fact that she was in my clothing only added to it.

Last night I had managed to talk her into opening one of the only boxes not sealed, which happened to be full of all of my belongings. Apparently she was going to have it dropped off at mine at some point today.

I was eternally grateful to what ever force was on my side that helped prevent that from ever happening.

Now, she stood in a pair of my boxers and a very old purple hoodie.

“Louis is going to think we did naughty things last night.” I joked brushing her fringe out of her eyes.

Dawn scoffed and turned back into the room.

Last night we had discussed how we wanted to go about our new found relationship, both of us deciding that we didn’t want to mess it up and that going slow was probably the best thing we could do.

Not that I didn’t want to pull that hoodie off and ravage her, but I wanted to do it when it was right not because it was something I had fantasized about for far too long.

“Harry, even if I was fully dressed Lou would think we did naughty things. Our friend is kind of a perv.”

I threw my head back and laughed. She was right, Louis’ mind would automatically go to the dirty.

“Your realtor was here.” I relayed the message that Louis had in advertently given me.

Dawn’s eyes widened and she fumbled for her cell phone that was charging on the night table.

“Crap. I have to call her.”

I nodded and took a seat next to her grabbing her hand. I still wasn’t clear on what she was planning on doing about all that.

I listened intently as she spoke in her business like tone to the woman who, judging by Dawn’s responses and continued apologies, was none too pleased with being stood up and further released of her duty to Dawn.

Apparently, no papers had been signed and as of that moment Dawn was still the lease holder of her flat. I had to admit I was internally celebrating the news that my best friend and new found girlfriend was staying right here in this place that held so much meaning to me.

It was the place I had realized I was in love with her in, the place I had run to when my sham of a relationship with Caroline had crumbled. The home I had cooked for her in multiple times and the place I had finally kissed my girlfriend.

I don’t think I would ever get sick of referring to her as such.

My girlfriend.

I intertwined our fingers and smiled sweetly at her as she ended her call with a final apology before tossing the phone across the bed and sighing.

“Well. I still live here.” She said looking around the room with a tired expression.

I frowned at it. Was she not happy about living here? Did she want to move that badly?

“Is that a bad thing?” I asked leaning forward and looking at her face waiting for her to make eye contact with me.

Her look softened when she did and a pout took over her lips. “No but,” She looked around again and let her shoulders sag. “All the unpacking. I’m not looking forward to that. I think I’ll just get new things.” She joked.

I laughed and pulled her into my side, her head resting under my chin. “You have plenty of willing, helping hands to assist in the unpacking.”

“Except for me.” Louis’ voice rang from the doorway. “I’m not the unpacking type, but I can supervise.”

Dawn’s head pulled away from my chest to look over at the Lou, who smiled before rushing up to the bed and diving onto it behind us.

“So everyone is excited about the news.” He said in a sing song voice as he managed to squeeze himself between the two of us.

Dawn chuckled and shook her head before standing up and clapping her hands together. “Well we should probably get to unpacking now.”

Louis looked from me to Dawn before standing up quickly. “I have to be...” He looked around the room before looking from me to Dawn and giving a tight lipped smile. “Places. See you two lovers later.”

Dawn watched with a dropped jaw as he scurried off the bed and out of the room and right out the front door. When it closed she snapped her mouth closed again and smirked.

“Well that worked better then I thought.” She said while sauntering over to me and straddling my lap. “I don’t want to share you yet. Can it just be us for a little bit longer?”

I smirked while looking up into her face. “It can be just us for as long as you’d like babe.”

Her lips covered mine as the words left my mouth, her hands slipping from my shoulders to my arms as she held her self on my lap while my hands locked behind her neck keeping the kiss in my control and at the pace I desired.

I let my tongue tease hers, laughing internally at her moans when I would pull away with her bottom lip trapped between my teeth.

I chuckled as she returned the favor to my own lip as soon as I released hers.

We kept up our little kissing game until there was another knock at the door.

Dawn pulled away from me and threw her head back groaning at the noise. “Nooooo. Go away.” She whined loudly.

I laughed as I watched her, moving my hands to her hips to make sure she didn’t fall off my lap.

“We should get that.” I said after a few moments of just listening to the sporadic knocking.

She dropped her head onto my shoulder before mumbling into it causing goose flesh to erupt from my neck down my arms.

“Fine.”

We both got up, my arms instantly wrapping around her waist as we made our way to the door.

Up until that moment I was pretty confident there wasn’t a thing in the world that I would have to worry about having to share Dawn with, and then her eyes landed on what was on the other side of the door.

A squeal burst from her lips as she ripped herself from my arms and threw herself at the person on the other side snatching the bundle out of her arms.

“WYILE!!! My baby!!!” She gushed squishing her face up against the little white puppy that began to excitedly lick her face.

I grinned at her reaction as I edged by her and took my mother into my arms. “Hey mum.”

She hugged me back and pulled away to look into my face as she rested her hand on my cheek. “I see you finally got what you wanted.”

I chuckled.

My mother had never questioned my love for Dawn, in fact I’m pretty sure she knew how I felt about the short redheaded girl still cuddling her puppy before I knew how I felt.

“I’m working on it. I’m a lot closer now then I have ever been.”

She furrowed her brow in question. “I don’t understand.”

“We are together, but this is just the beginning. I love her mum and I don’t think I’ll ever want anyone else.”

My mum beamed at me before pulling away and grabbing Dawn into a tight hug. I snatched the puppy from Dawn and held him up to eye level. His little pudgy face tilting to the side as he stared back.

“Alright Wylie, you and I are going to have to learn how to share. You can’t keep your mummy all to yourself anymore. You’re going to have to let daddy have her every now and again.”

Dawn kissed my cheek and giggled at me. “You are such a dork.”

I smiled cheekily at her as I cuddled Wylie to my chest. “Your dork.”

She nodded in agreement. “My dork.”

“Well,” My mother said rubbing her hands on her jeans and looking around. “Shall we unpack?”

It was obvious she was just as eager to make it official that Dawn was staying as I was.

Not long after we began to open boxes and place everything were it belonged once again did the others show up, followed by Louis who was still trying his best to avoid any kind of manual labor.

Dawn made it a point to find him and have him help Eleanor sort through her kitchen ware that she had later confessed to me she had just thrown in to boxes with no particular order. She was sure he would be occupied for hours.

Liam, Danielle, Zayn, Niall and Jena all made appearances. Each helping, all of us wanting Dawn's flat to look as we remembered it and forget about her almost leaving us.

At some point in the day I noticed that both Jena and Dawn had vanished.

I tried to keep myself from panicking, something that I was beginning to fear would be a reaction I would have for quite a while if Dawn was out of my sight.

It wasn’t long before both girls returned looking much closer and laughing with each other. I waited until Dawn looked my way before raising an eyebrow in question.

She quickly excused herself pointing at me and saying something that both girls giggled about before walking over to me. Jena sending me a cheeky smile and a thumbs up from behind Dawn.

“Yes?” She asked with a smirk, her hands settling on her hips.

I nodded towards Jena who was now helping Niall sort through a box of framed pictures. “What was that about?”

“I was making that right. I was unfair to her for a lot of the time I’ve known her. I just wanted to make things better.”

I nodded and smiled stretching my hands out to grip her hips over her hands and pull her closer. I missed having contact with her body after a while. It was like I needed to feel her near me every so often to assure myself this was all really happening.

When I had her pulled up to my chest I smiled down at her. “So when they all leave would you like to have naked movie time with me?”

She laughed out loud and smacked my chest. “How about non-naked movie time?”

I pretended to think about it as I bit my lip and looked up. “Nope. Doesn’t sound as fun.”

“Too bad horn dog.” She giggled.

“So? Yes to the movie?” I asked.

She nodded. “Yes to the movie, no to the naked... for now.”

I raised my eyebrow in intrigue. “For now?”

She smirked and shrugged as she pulled away. “And I pick the movie.” She shot over her shoulder as she began to turn the corner into the kitchen.

I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. “What movie?”

She poked her head around the corner and grinned. “Sweet Home Alabama.”

I groaned and threw my head back. “Again?”

“Yup.” She said popping the ‘p’.

I stared at her adorable smirk and finally let the grin spread across my face. I would never openly admit it but I would watch that movie a hundred times over with her.

“Fine.” I conceded.

Her smirk turned into a full watt smile. “Hey Harry.”

I had begun to turn around to open a new box when she called my name. I slowly turned to face her again.

“Yes?”

She skipped up to me and placed a quick sweet kiss to my lips. “You’re my favorite.”

So maybe it hadn’t happened as easily as it did in movies or as perfectly as in all the fairy tales with all our secrets and miscommunications but I was quite convinced that I had found what all of those movies promised even if there was lots of struggling and a patch of bad luck.

“Finally.”
