Summer Nights
Chapter Four
*Holly's P.O.V*
I headed straight to my locker, and the boys were telling Niall and Harry what had happened while I was getting my English book.
"I wondered what that was– I heard a really loud thump and a bunch of shouting," Niall said, flashing a grin at me.
"She poned Melissa! You should've seen it!" Zayn enthusiastically said, slinging an arm around my shoulder.
"I shall now call you my sister," he announced, and Louis took off his arm and replaced it.
"Nope, she's my sassy buddy," he joked, and Liam shook off his arm and draped his around me.
"No, she's my awesome friend that Louis corrupted already," he shot a look at the guilty boy just as Harry pushed his arm off and put his there.
"Meet my new cooking assistant," he winked at me, and Niall shoved Harry's arm away and threw his around me.
"And she is my best girl buddy," he said, casually side-hugging me.
"Awww!" All four boys said in unison. Niall's face turned red as he turned to them.
"Whatever!" He groaned, smiling at me.
"So we're all best friends?" I asked. They all nodded and glanced at each other. I could practically see the light bulbs going off over their heads.
"Group hug!" Louis shouted, and all five of them threw themselves at me. I was stuck in the middle as they crowded around me.
"Guys! We're doing this in the middle of the hallway!" I said, laughing as I hugged them all back.
"They won't care!" Louis yelled, his voice muffled by Zayn's body.
"Yes they will!" I protested, still laughing.
"Hold on," Louis wiggled out of the huddle.
"Listen up guys! Holly is officially our new best friend and if you got a problem with that, deal with it, or deal with us!" He shouted to the people who were staring at us. Triumphantly smirking, he rejoined the hug. I practically jumped five feet in the air when the bell rang, scaring us all.
"Shoot, come on guys, we gotta go to English." Liam led me to the right classroom and we all sat down in a big group. The room was set up with two chairs per table, so Louis sat with Harry, Zayn sat with Niall, and Liam sat with me. It seemed Melissa was stalking me, because she sauntered in two minutes before class started, her perfume aroma nearly choking me. My eyes started watering up, and I could see the boy's eyes were too.
"Geez, what does she do with that perfume? Dump the whole bottle on her or something?" I croaked. They shrugged, wiping their eyes. Melissa saw us, and she came over.
"Aw, am I making you cry because you want me to be your girlfriend? You know, I can make that happen," she said, miserably failing at trying to sound seductive, and lightly running her fingers over Niall's hand. He shuddered and jerked his hand away. She turned to me with a glowering look on her caked face.
"And I know you're crying because you want to be perfect, like me," she told me, taking out some lip gloss and slathering ten layers on.
"Uh, since when did perfection become a perfume-overdosing, annoying cheerleader?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'll have you know that this perfume is the very best. And it's probably better than whatever you use," she wrinkled her nose.
"No, I'm pretty sure the one I use is way better than the idiot brand you dump on yourself," I sassed. She narrowed her eyes at me.
"You better watch your back," she hissed before stomping back to her group, her scent fumes still clouding around us.
"Sure, I'll do that when a zombie apocalypse comes," I muttered.
"You are awesome!" Harry exclaimed.
"I need your number so I can call for comeback help!" Liam said, grinning at me. I weakly smiled and coughed. Something didn't seem quite right. I've never had such a severe reaction to perfume; the only thing that could make me respond like this is specific flowers and scents– those are the only things I'm allergic to. Little black dots started popping up in my vision and my head started spinning.
"Um, I'm gonna go get something to drink," I tried to stand up and I almost fell. I felt faint, and my legs started to go weak. The boys' faces instantly contorted to a worried expression, and Liam took my arm and dragged me out to the hallway.
"Ok, just breathe Holly. C'mon, breathe," he coaxed as I inhaled. I was on the verge of passing out when I felt the fresh air come in, and my vision slowly cleared up, and my stomach stopped doing somersaults.
"All better?" He asked. I nodded. Relieved, he smiled and took me back inside. I went back to my seat as the teacher came in and introduced herself to me. After calling roll, she launched into a really long lecture about how English is important to us and our generation. At the end of class, she handed us a writing assignment to do for homework, and we left.
"Wow, what a drama queen! Seems that the new girl here has to make such a big deal out of everything." Melissa sneered, purposely gossiping to another cheerleader right to my face. Before I could open my mouth and set this girl straight, Niall stepped in for me.
"She is not even close to that! If anything, I'd say you were describing yourself!" He said, taking my hand and leading me out to the hallway.
"And you better shut your mouth before I shut it for you and ruin that 'perfect' face of yours," I shot over my back as I headed to the gym, surrounded by the boys.
