Summer Nights
Chapter Thirty-One
*Holly's P.O.V*
I was sitting in my room, freshly showered, finishing my English paper when something rapped on my window. Sighing, I lazily put aside my laptop and got off my bed.
"What?" I asked, opening the window to the cold air. Niall sat on one of the sturdy tree branches, facing me. He shrugged.
"Just wanted to see if you were free," he casually said. I adjusted the opening of the window to make it bigger, and gestured for him to crawl in. He complied, and I helped him jump down.
"So," he wiped off his hands. "What's up?" I smiled, shaking my head.
"English." He gave me a look.
"Seriously? That's not due until. . . next Wednesday," he pointedly said.
"I know. I'll be telling you that while you're busy writing it on Tuesday night," I teased. He stuck his tongue out at me, and I ruffled his hair. I joined him as he relaxed on my bed, and he pulled me closer to him. I didn't think it was weird or anything, so I let him play with my hair, twirling it around and around one finger. It was quiet for a while, the two of us just laying there in the silence. His warm breath sent chills down my spine as I felt his head move closer to my neck, one arm still around my waist as he continued playing with my long hair.
"Do you like England?" He suddenly asked, his fingers stilling. I rolled over to face him, my brown eyes meeting his blue ones.
"Of course. It's better than my old home," I seriously answered, and he smiled.
"Good," he said, but I could tell he wanted to say something else. I waited for him to elaborate, but he remained thoughtfully quiet. Struggling to stay awake in case Niall decided to tell me what was on his mind, my body begged to shut down for the night. Sensing my battle of sleep, he gently squeezed my waist.
"Go to sleep, Holls. I'll be here," he murmured, dipping his head to my shoulder, his hair tickling my nose. I drowsily smiled, shifting into a comfortable position. His arm made me feel protected, and I felt him cuddling into me. The combination of his heat and comforting presence made me drift off into a peaceful serenity.
