Summer Nights

Chapter Three

*Holly's P.O.V*
I went out to my locker and grabbed my History textbook. Liam and Zayn's lockers were to my left, and Harry and Louis' lockers was across from mine. Thankfully, Melissa's was further down the hall. I could see her giving me the evil eye, but I ignored her and went into the classroom. I had History with Louis, Zayn, and Liam, and Niall and Harry had foreign language class– Spanish for Niall and French for Harry. Sadly, Melissa had History with me. Niall had walked me to the doorway, and as soon as he saw her, he drew his lips together in a frown.

"If she does anything to you, promise you'll tell me, alright?" He asked, his blue eyes searching mine. He was so overprotective, and it was pretty cute. But I wanted to keep him and the others as friends for now.
"Of course. I'll see you in English," I smiled and went over to a desk next to Louis. Zayn was on my left, and Liam was in front of me. Melissa was on the other side of the classroom, surrounded by a bunch of giggling, high-pitched, loud girls. I tried to have a conversation with the boys, but we kept on getting interrupted by squealing outbursts from Melissa's group.

"So he really told you that?" A girl who had the same fashion sense as Melissa asked, applying twenty layers of lipgloss. Melissa smugly nodded.
"Yeah, he said he wants to ask me out," she crowed, causing all the other girls to swoon. I rolled my eyes, and I could see Zayn, Louis, and Liam doing the same. They were probably talking about another idiotic football player or something.
"No way! I can't believe he said that!" Squealed another girl.
"I know, right! See, Chrissi heard him tell one of his friends, and she told Mikayla, who told Britney, who told Fiona, and she told me! We all knew this was coming, I mean, seriously! Fiona said that Niall was crushing on me ever since eighth grade!" Melissa gushed. Excuse me? Oh heck no! They've got to be kidding me! I am setting these gossip addicts straight. . . I angrily thought. I slammed my hands on the desk, and stood up, showing how tall I really am, and the classroom was instantly quiet. All eyes were on me as I calmly walked over to Melissa's group.
"You know what?" I asked, looking down at the first girl. She cowered under my stone-cold glare. Some of them scoffed, but most of them were scared. Good.
"Quit spreading lies and all that junk around because we don't want or need any of that. We all know it's stupid anyway. So stop. Got it?" Melissa stood up too, but she was still shorter than me by a few inches. She tilted her head up to look at me.

"Oh please, you're just jealous because we all know you aren't going to be getting a boyfriend anytime soon." A few people snickered.
"And you are?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I spotted the boys trying to hide their smirks.
"Whatever. I'm not wasting my time on you. You're jealous, you don't know how to pick out clothes, and you're a tomboy and a nerd," she said, tossing her hair in my face.
"Oh yeah? Well you're just an obsessive, annoying, gossip-addicted, sickening, desperate person whom I don't want screeching in my face anymore. And by the way, if you actually paid attention to the real world, you would figure out that Niall and the rest of them can't stand you, so I highly recommend telling all those people to check their sources and to mind their own business before you spread all that crud around," I snapped, going back to my desk. I couldn't help but turn back around and say one last thing.
"Oops! My bad, you've probably never had a reality check and it hurts, so why don't you just go run home to your mommy and cry like the big baby you are!" I shot them all a fake smile. Melissa was glaring after me and everyone was gaping at me.
"Don't mess with me, freak!" She shouted. Okay, that did it. I whirled around.
"Like I'm scared of a makeup zombie who doesn't know how to throw a punch!" I yelled, probably bursting everyone's eardrums.
"And news flash! You really need to get over yourself!" I added, rolling my eyes and going back to the boys. A few people were clapping after my speech and the boys high-fived me.
"Nice one Holly!" Louis said. I blushed.
"Don't get used to it– I just did that because they were so annoying," I responded just as the teacher came in. He called roll, and the entire time, Melissa was narrowing her eyes at me. He finally started class, but it was mostly an introduction to the curriculum, from what I could tell. The boys were grinning at me from ear to ear. Nice going Holly! It's your first day at a new high school, and you've already been in a fight with someone! Not to mention she probably hates your guts right now! I thought, impatiently drumming my fingers on the desk. When the the bell finally rang, I sprinted out the classroom before Bella could corner me.
