Summer Nights

Chapter Twenty-Nine

*Holly's P.O.V*
"Ugh, don't you guys ever go to sleep?" I asked the next day, stumbling down the hallway of the the school. "Nope!" Louis chirped, popping the "p". I groaned, steadying myself against whoever was next to me. They emitted a chuckle, and supported me until we made it to our lockers.
"Thanks, Niall," I mumbled, closing my eyes for a brief second.
"No problem." I was tired beyond belief; and the boys were the same– except for Louis.

Apparently, we'd been up all night writing and testing out parts of the song. When I'd woken up today, Niall was next to me with his head on my shoulder, sitting on the floor against the bed, my guitar resting on his chest, Liam and Harry were sprawled on the floor, Zayn was snoring away in my desk chair, and Louis, who had dragged a seat over, was sleeping with his head on top of my keyboard. I laughed to myself, taking in the sight of the five sleepy boys before gently shaking Niall awake.
"Huzza-what?" He'd mumbled, his blue eyes slowly opening. He smiled once realizing it was me, and lazily stretched his arms and legs. Making a noise similar to a yawning kitten, he'd pulled me in for a small, sweet hug.
"Morning," he said, his morning voice making the words sound slightly hoarse. I returned his smile and helped him stand up, putting the instrument onto the bed. He stretched his arms again, looking around us.
"I guess we all stayed the night," he stated in his normal voice.
"So it seems," I replied, scurrying around the room and cleaning it up. When I set the papers back on my desk, I took the chance to wake Zayn up. He opened one eye, glancing at the room.
"This isn't my house," he blankly said. I giggled, shaking my head.
"We had a surprise sleepover," I told him. With a nod, he slid off the chair and staggered over to my bathroom across the hall. The sound of running faucet water floated in while I shook Louis awake. The piano keys made an undistinguished sound as he slapped his hands on the keys when I woke him up.
"Five more minutes," he incoherently pleaded.
"You gotta get up," I said, and with a loud groan, he got off the chair. The sound of my piano had woken up Liam and Harry, and they sat in the middle of the room.
"The bathroom's that way," I pointed out the door, and they nodded, standing up and forming a line in the hallway. Niall was the only one left, and I questionably cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Don't you wanna go wash up or something?" I asked. He shrugged.
"They'll take forever," he responded, jerking his head at the three boys. He helped me right the room, and joined the small line near the bathroom.

"Holly?" Louis' voice shouted.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Where're the towels? And what kind of shampoo is this?" He screeched. I rolled my eyes, reaching into the hall cabinet and pulling out six towels.
"Zayn, you give one to him," I demanded, refusing to step foot inside there while Louis was showering. He sighed, and dutifully completed the task. Three minutes had passed, and I was getting worried. It was almost time when Whitney would wake up, and I can't exactly explain why I have four guys standing in my hallway.
"This smells like blueberries!" Louis yelled, and I assumed he meant the body wash.
"If you don't like it, then use the one that smells like cherry blossoms!" I yelled back, not caring if I woke up the rest of the house.
"What if I don't want to smell like cherry blossoms?" He retorted.
"Then try the generic brand!"
"Excuse me?! I am not using some generic shampoo!" He shouted, making it sound as if instead of "generic", he meant "lepers". I rolled my eyes again.
"Then make up your mind! I have four other people here that aren't picky about what they want to smell like at six in the morning!" Niall was cracking up, and Liam and Harry rolled their eyes. Zayn had nearly fallen asleep again while waiting for Louis to finish, and once it was his turn, he'd shuffled inside the bathroom. He was done in ten minutes, but he'd taken an extra three hundred seconds to fix his hair. Liam and Harry pretty much sped through their showers, and Niall only took approximately six minutes. As for me, I just washed my hair in the sink and blow-dried it.

After changing into some jeans and an indigo top, grabbing a jacket just in case, I'd led the way down the stairs to an empty kitchen. There was a note taped to the fridge, and it said: Hey Holly, I had to head out early today, and Whit's school was on the way, so I dropped her off for you. Make anything you want, and I'll be home tonight by nine. Love you! –Mom.
"Ooh! Can you make–" I held up a hand to stop Liam, and sifted through the pantry and fridge.
"Okay, all I have is fruit, cereal, eggs, some pancake mix, and a little bacon. We have" —I glanced at the kitchen clock— "fifteen minutes, then we have to go if you want to stop by your houses to change and stuff." They shook their heads.
"Nah, we're good. No one'll notice these clothes are dirty," Zayn said. I shrugged.
"Alright. So, what's the verdict on breakfast?"

Note to self: never ever ask that question to five hungry boys, one of which is very picky about how he likes his eggs made, but it is extremely convenient to have someone who enjoys cooking for America's Next Diva.
"I asked for butter," Louis complained, shoving his plate of pancakes back at me. I huffed, shoving it back at him.
"And I asked for a Lamborghini, but life's not fair. Just eat them– lunch's in like, what, three hours?"
"Four," he pouted, but he took his fork and started wolfing down my creation. Thankfully, Liam and Zayn just asked for a bowl of fruit, and Niall'd fixed himself and me some cereal.
"I feel like a babysitter," I moaned, sitting next to him on top of the kitchen counter. He chuckled, watching as Harry expertly finished making his waffle.
"Better get used to it," he quipped, lightly punching my shoulder.

Once everyone'd polished off their food, we'd piled into my car.
"You don't need your backpacks?" I questioned, pulling onto the Main Street.
"Naw, we just stuff everything in our lockers," Harry flippantly said.
"Figures," I muttered.
