**Niall POV**
She walked out of the kitchen and saw me. “What are you doing here?”, I asked. “I-I- I’m-”, she fell to her knees and burst into tears. “I’m sorry”, she managed to say.
--Flash back—
**Niall POV**
Ever since I comforted this fragile young girl when we were 10, we have all been the best of friends. That was seven years ago. Not once had we been separated- in class or out. Even in high school. We are in year eleven now and I’ve had a crush on her for about five years. I’ve never had a girlfriend. I never liked anyone but her. She makes me happy. All the time. No matter what. I can’t help but smile when I’m around her. I know it’s pointless though. She’ll never go for someone like me. It’s an unwritten law. Best friends can’t date best friends. It’s doomed.
Puberty had been very kind to Ruby. She always looked beautiful. Never ever had a bad hair day, even angels weren’t this perfect.
We just got back from a triple period of PE and we finished changing back into our school clothes when we met up. Alone. No Liam, Zayn or Louis. Just Us. She waved Hi to me and I gulped. “Hey Niall”, she cheered as she enclosed me in a bear hug. “Hi”, I whispered. “What’s wrong?” she asked, worried. I gulped again. There she was, the girl I dreamed about being with, standing in front of me, her uniform ruffled, all sweaty and flushed from running around. Her red/brown hair mussed and slightly frizzy. Like she had been doing some naughty deed. NO! Don’t think about that! You mustn’t think about her like that. “Hey Niall?” I snapped out of my thoughts and looked her in the eyes. “Yes?” “You were staring at my boobs…” she whispered with a cheeky smile. I felt my face go red and hot and I covered it with my hands. “I’m so sorry”, I breathed, “I didn’t know”. She slowly removed my hands from my face. “Hey… it’s ok. I don’t mind”. I looked her in the eyes and tried to find a least a hint that she as lying and that she really did mind. That she was just saying that to make me feel better. I didn’t find one. Either she was really good at lying or she genuinely didn’t mind. I gently leaned in to kiss her, but hesitated. She grabbed the collar of my school shirt with both hands and kissed me passionately. I grabbed her waist and pulled her hips in to meet mine. She traced my bottom lip with her tongue, begging for entrance. I let her in and she explored every single inch of my mouth. Our tongues fought for dominance as she fisted my hair and slightly tugged. I lightly bit her bottom lip and she moaned. “Ahem”, said a voice. We didn’t hear them, we were drunk with passion. I moved of her lips and kissed and sucked on her neck, under her ear, leaving a mark for sure. She moaned and groaned with ecstasy. I moved back to her lips.“Ahem! Are we interrupting something?!?” they said louder. We heard them that time and jumped apart. “Hi, hello, how are you?”, said Zayn, sarcastically. “Uh hi”, breathed Ruby, blushing. Louis looked like he was about to burst. Zayn looked at him. “Okay Louis, you may explode now”, he said. “I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!”, Louis screamed, jumping around. “You knew what?”, I said, slightly annoyed that our adventure was interrupted. “Are you guys dating?”, asked Liam. “I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!!”, Louis continued to yell. He stopped. “I knew you guys were going out, I just knew it! You are so cute together. I always thought you belonged to each other”, he started ranting. I looked at Ruby, dumbfounded. He lips were red and swollen from my attack and she had a red mark under her neck that was sure to be a nice little reminder tomorrow. “Really?!?” I said, not expecting an answer. “Oh, she told me she liked you wayyyyyy back in eighth gra—oops”, Niall was cut off by Ruby’s glare.“Really?” I asked again, this time directed at Ruby. She looked down. “Did you like me?” I asked her. “Of course she likes you, she told me she lov--” Niall caught Ruby glaring at him again. “I’ll just shut up now”.

Here she was. The girl who I comforted in year 5. The girl I fell hopelessly in love with. The girl that broke my heart and ruined my life.
