We Go Together

Chapter 10

Micky woke up late in the afternoon the next day, to a tapping on her window. She fell out of bed and pulled back the curtain, while rubbing her eyes. Standing outside, with a silly grin on his stupid face, stood Louis, tapping on the glass.

She opened the window, “What?”

He rested his elbow on the window sill and his head on his hand, “Evening.”

“Hi?” she said, tired and fuzzy headed.

“Did you hear what happened last night?” he asked.

“The crash?” she asked.

“Yeah,” he replied, “Max is dead. His funeral is tomorrow, although we’re not invited. We’re not rich enough or some lame excuse like that.” He smiled at her.

“Yeah,” she replied, unenthusiastically.

“Hey,” he said, suddenly concerned, “Something wrong? Wait...are you actually feeling sorry for that bastard?”

She hesitated, “What the hell Mick?”

“God, Louis!” said Micky, “He’s dead! He was only eighteen. He wasn’t a bad guy. Not really.”

“He fucking tried to rape you!” shouted Louis, his face growing red.

“He was drunk, Lou,” said Micky, “He didn’t know what he was doing.”

“That is NOT an excuse,” said Louis, with an angry look on his pixie face. He clambered into Micky’s room through the window.

“It’s not okay,” he said, “And I’m glad he’s gone. I didn’t want him to die, but it’s kind of handy. I wouldn’t wish death on anyone, not really, but I am glad he’s gone.”

“Louis,” started Micky, but he cut her off.

“No!” he said harshly, then softer, “It’s fine. I’m just...still upset. I’m sorry for yelling at you. I’m mad at him, but that won’t do anyone any good. I’m sorry.”

“Can we just drop it?” asked Micky, “Nothing truly bad happened that night and we can’t go back and change it now. I’m sorry for not listening to you.”

“That sounds like a great idea,” he said, giving her a small smile, “Let’s forget about it, ok?”

She nodded, “Ok.”

“Come on then,” he said, “I want to take you somewhere.”

“Now?” she asked.

“Right now,” he replied, climbing back out the window. She quickly got dressed, brushed her teeth, and dragged a brush through her hair and then slipped out beside him as he led the way.
