Past and Present

LIAM’S P.O.V.

I wish I had thought of something better to say that time but my mind was so panicked that all I could think of was “I’m fucked.”

“Liam,” Colen repeated again. Her eyes were stern as they stared into mine.

“I… Uh it’s like… things… something…” I tried to explain what happened as best as I can but my brain won’t function. “I- I had to.” I finally managed to choke out. I kept my head down, not wanting to meet her eyes.

The bell rang. Everybody else had left to their next class but we stayed. Facing each other.
There was a long silence before I looked back up.

Tears were running down her cheeks as she sobbed quietly into her hands. I wanted to give her a big hug and tell her everything will be ok but I know that it will just make her hate me even more.

“Coke I’m sorr-” I started.

“It’s alright.” She said quietly. She wiped her tears on her sleeves. “I’m sorry I made you hang out with me all the time. If you really like Sammy, you should just break up with me and go to her. But instead, I made it uncomfortable for you, so you had to cheat. I’m sorry.” She smiled at me through her tears.

It breaks my heart seeing her like this. She’s always so thoughtful of others. Even now, after she found out I cheated on her, she wasn’t mad at all. I reached out trying to pull her into a hug but she stops me halfway.

“I hope you’re happy.” She said. Then, without a word, she gathered up her stuff and left.

“No Colen, please, stop,” Tears formed in my eyes as I watched her figure get smaller and smaller. A lump formed in my throat as I swallowed back tears. I felt like breaking down. I’ve lost Colen, I’ve lost my whole world.

I took out my phone and texted Sammy back.

I can’t do this anymore.
