The A-Listers

Chapter 14

Skylar's POV:

“Have you seen Reagan?” I asked Scarlett as I walked into the living room. Despite the fact that this apartment can fit five bedrooms and bathrooms, it was kind of small compared to other New York apartments. It was only one floor, unlike some of the apartments I’d seen in Gossip Girl episodes, and it was pretty un-fab if you asked me. It fit us all though, and plus anyways, we were moving out soon to go on tour.
Erick hadn’t told us the details really, but from what I had gathered, we’d be staying in separate apartments after the tour. It made me kind of sad actually. I wouldn’t be around the rest of the band 24/7.
Scar looked up from her book. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies I read. Only Scarlett would read that kind of book.
“She went out with Liam,” she replied. “They left like thirty minutes ago.”
“Oh,” I said, slightly deflated. I wanted to ask her on her opinion of Niall. My sister was great when it came to interpreting guys, and I wanted to know what Niall thought of me. This was the first time I was actually desperate enough to go to Reagan.
“I’m sure she’ll be back soon,” replied Scar, going back to her book. I stood there for a moment, waiting to see if she had anything else to say. She didn’t say anymore, so I sighed and walked back into my room.
I made my bed – a rare chore for me, I never did my bed – and pulled a book off my shelf. I tried to read it, but my mind was preoccupied. What was Reagan doing out with Liam? What did Niall think of me? How was Piper going to deal with the whole Louis situation? How were we all going to survive these next months on tour with One Direction?
I finally ended up throwing my book across the room. I couldn’t concentrate with all of this. I was having major feels for Niall at the moment, and I couldn’t consult my sister – the one who knew everything about guys – and find out whether or not Niall was bluffing or not.
I got up and checked my phone. No new messages. I had exchanged numbers with Niall last night, and he had promised to text me, but here I was with no new messages.
I typed a quick text asking him how he was and then tossed my phone on my bed. I couldn’t concentrate. I had never been in love, never had these feelings before, and I felt giggly. I giggled to myself, then looked around my room, hoping no one had heard. I really was going crazy.
My phone buzzed, and I lunged for it. I desperately hoped it was Niall.
It wasn’t. It was a text from Piper, saying meet in the living room ASAP. Like she couldn’t just knock on our doors and tell us to come out.
I walked out into the living room to find Piper sitting on the couch, her arms crossed. Lucy and Scarlett were sitting next to her on either side. They seemed to be expecting me.
“What?” I asked nervously. “Did I do something?”
Piper raised an eyebrow at me.
“Not you, your sister. Her cell phone number has just been broadcasted to the world on twitter.”
Piper pointed to the TV, which was aired on the celebrity news, and on the screen was a picture of Reagan. I could tell it used to be a picture of all five of us, because I saw someone’s foot and someone’s arm wrapped around Reagan, but they had cropped us all out.
A reporter appeared on the screen, a big wide smile on her face as she said, “Reagan Jennings, member of the pop group, the A-Listers, is known as a flirt, but we didn’t know she’d take it this far!”
A guy appeared on the screen. He seemed to be being interviewed, because he was talking to someone behind the camera. He was definitely hot, and you could tell he knew it by the way he brushed his spiked hair back as he said, “Yeah, she was flirting with me the entire time, like, basically throwing herself onto me. She’s a total slut, but she’s good in bed.”
I gasped as a twitter page appeared on the screen, with the words, “Hey, if anyone wants to hook up with Reagan Jennings, here’s her number,” with her number underneath it.
The reporter and her accomplice came back on screen, their pearly white smiles nearly blinding me.
“Jake, do you think that Reagan is a slut?” asked the girl reporter, raising an eyebrow.
The reporter – Jake – shrugged and smiled.
“I mean, we can’t be sure if these allegations are true…” he said knowingly. I decided then that I liked Jake.
“But there are so many rumors of her having secret hookups with guys all over the country!” exclaimed the girl reporter. “I mean, if I were her, I’d tone it down a bit. You don’t want a reputation like that in Hollywood!
“Now, Rihanna’s new album skyrockets…”
Piper clicked off the television.
“We have a major problem on our hands,” said Piper, her tone rock-solid.
“I know that Reagan hasn’t done anything with anyone, I swear!” I said. “She’d tell me, and that guy…he’s way too good looking for her to not tell me about him!”
Piper sighed.
“I know, Sky. I saw the same guy the other day. She gave him her number, but I haven’t seen him since. I think he’s making it all up, but try explaining that to Erick.”
Piper held out her phone to me. I took it and read the text in all-caps that Erick had sent her.
“MEET ME AT THE STUDIO IN AN HOUR WE HAVE SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT TO DISCUSS,” I read.
I looked up.
“Man, he’s pissed,” I mused.
“He hates bad press,” agreed Lucy. “He genuinely cares about us, we know that. And he doesn’t want us throwing it all away.”
“I don’t think Reagan was planning on throwing her reputation by giving some random guy her number,” pointed out Scarlett, raising an eyebrow. “She was just being Reagan – a flirt.”
“The main thing we need to focus on is where is Reagan right now?” asked Piper, raising an eyebrow at me.
“She went out with Liam like an hour ago,” said Scarlett, looking worried. “You don’t think…?”
At that moment, Reagan burst through the door, looking flushed and excited.
“Reagan!” I said, running to hug her. “Where have you been?”
Reagan hugged me back, but she didn’t answer me. She just smiled and sat down next to Lucy.
“Where have you been Reagan?” asked Lucy. “We know you’ve been out with Liam, but…”
“Liam kissed me,” said Reagan, smiling wide. “He kissed me.”
Piper wasn’t amused.
“Whoop-dee-do,” she said, rolling her eyes. “What number is he? Twenty-nine?”
Reagan’s smile slowly faded.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you still pissed about this morning?” asked Reagan.
“No. What we’re pissed about is some guy has put your cell phone number all over twitter,” said Scarlett, showing her the twitter page on her phone. Reagan’s eyes widened, and her face turned red.
“How dare he?” she screeched. “I’m not a whore!”
“We know, Reagan,” said Lucy, patting her on the back. “But Erick already knows, and he’s not too happy about this.”
Reagan looked floored. She leaned back on the couch and rubbed her eyes.
“Reags, it’ll be okay. You didn’t do anything with this guy, did you?” I asked, sitting down next to her, putting my arm around her shoulder.
Reagan looked at me sharply.
“Of course not!” she snapped. “I only met him like yesterday! I don’t even know his name!”
“Well, he certainly knows yours, and now you have a reputation you need to shake,” said Piper wisely. “He’s made you look like a slut.”
Reagan put her head in her hands.
God,” she sighed. “There goes my good day.”
We sat there in silence for a good ten seconds before I leaned in, smiling.
“So…Liam kissed you, huh?” I asked excitedly. At least there was one good thing that happened today.
Reagan smiled.
“Yeah,” she said dreamily. “He said he liked me just the way I was.”
“Aw,” sighed Lucy.
“No one saw you, did they?” asked Piper worriedly. Reagan shot her a look.
“What?” exclaimed Piper. “I’m not saying that they shouldn’t see you, it just wouldn’t go well with what’s happening now…you know.”
Reagan nodded. She sighed right as her phone buzzed. I was surprised she hadn’t gotten any calls yet. After all, her phone number was all over the internet.
She unlocked her phone, and sighed when she saw the text.
“Erick wants us at the studio ASAP,” she groaned. “Let’s go guys.”
We got up, and headed out, but before we left, I gave Reagan a big hug and smiled at her.
“I’m so happy for you,” I said.
“Yeah,” she said, smiling softly. “Me too.”
