Something Changed
Chills
"So how was it" my sister asked.
"How was what?" I replied still in my own little world.
"The date" she said laughing.
"Oh, it was nice."
"Nice, that's it?"
"Yeah" I said smiling "I think he likes me."
"Of course he does. You're different."
"What is that supposed to mean" I asked.
I could see where this conversation was headed and it wiped my happiness away pretty quickly.
"You are the one who's always had the boyfriends. Not me. Just because your hard of hearing doesn't mean your any less than anyone else" I said trying to cheer her up like I do practically all the time. She's my sister. If anyone tried to tell her otherwise I'd rip them apart.
"It's just different because you can hear the conversations and everyone talking and laughing and it's hard for me."
If only she realized its not the easiest thing for me either.
"I get that I might not be able to fully understand but I know you can do anything you want in life no matter what the obstacle is."
"Yeah, yeah ok. Anyways" she said dragging that last word out "we were talking about your date."
"Right."
"well give me the details."
"I don't really feel like talking about it now" I said in all honesty.
"I'm sorry for bringing that up. Just tell me some thing at least."
"Ugh jackie!"
"What? I want to know how my little sisters first date went. Is that a crime?"
"your only two minutes older. And I just--"
"Fine, don't tell me" she sighed in disappointment.
After a few minutes of listening to nothing but the wind I decided to break the silence.
"He plays guitar" I said into my pillow.
"What was that" she asked eagerly.
"He plays guitar" I shouted " he plays guitar and sings and he has a lot in common with me. I never thought I'd meet a boy I actually liked. And I never thought I'd meet a boy who had things in common with me for that matter" I said barely able to catch my breath.
"Did he sing to you?"
"Uh huh" I said feeling warmth creep upon my cheeks.
"You're blushing!"
"No I'm not" I said trying to hide my face with the pillow.
"You're blushing, you're blushing" she sang while jumping up and down.
"Oh my gosh stop" I said laughing.
"This is too cute" she squealed as she fell on top of me.
"This is nuts."
"Does he write songs?"
"No. I don't think so? I don't know" I said frustrated.
"Did you tell him you did?"
"No."
"Well are you going to" she asked handing me my song book.
"No, of course not."
'"Why not" she whined as I got up to tuck it under my bed sheets making sure it was hidden in the corner.
"Because, he might laugh. And it's not like anyone's going to hear them anyways."
***********
I strolled into my fifth hour excited yet nervous. I hadn't spoken to him in four days. He probably thought I was avoiding him. So I went straight to the desk I always sit in, unnoticed of course. Even though I kept my mouth closed, that didnt mean my ears were too.
"Harry stop you can't say that!" Violet said laughing.
What is happening? Violet never showed any interest in Harry before. Plus I told her I liked him only a couple days ago. Why this sudden interest in him? I'm over thinking it. If anything they are probably just being friendly. All throughout fifth hour they were talking with each other and laughing making me boil to the bone. Maybe it's just friendly ness. She wouldn't go behind my back and hurt me like that, right?
*********
"Audrey, what's wrong?"
"Oh, nothing" I said walking to Violets car.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah" I said not convincing her obviously.
"I'm worried" she said not sounding very compassionate.
"Really it's nothing."
She looked at me as she got into the car shrugging her shoulders.
I went in right after. We were halfway to my house before I popped a question.
"What's up with you and Tyler?"
"Eh nothing much. I don't know what his deal is, its like i try to talk to him but his mind is in another world sometimes."
"Yeah, I get that" I said.
" Harry's so funny he was telling me this story about--" that's when I cut her off.
"Oh look I'm home" I said getting out of the car so happy I didn't have to hear what they talked about again.
"Thanks bye" I said wasting no time.
The last thing I wanted to do was hear her gush about a boy I really liked. It was like daggers to my heart knowing she caused that smile on his face.
The one I thought he only gave me.
