Something Changed
Surprise
"What's the plan, Stan?"
"I prefer to be called Harry."
"it's an expression" I defended myself laughing.
"you Americans..." He said jokingly looking both ways before turning the corner.
"you do realize you've lived in America practically you're whole life right?"
"right, I have, but I've never heard anybody say that."
"Alright I'll stop with the lingo" I joked smiling.
he just looked at me trying to fight his laughter.
"But seriously where are we going."
"My house for a second. Then off to a hockey game."
"Your house?"
"mhhm."
"is-is your mother going to be home?"
"no, is there a problem?"
"no."
"Audrey,"
"yeah" I asked trying to hide my nerves.
"Are you afraid of my mum or something?"
"I'm just not good with parents, okay?" I said covering my face with my hands.
"There's nothing to worry about. She won't even be there."
*****************
as soon as he opens the door I feel nauseous. That's when I hear a voice from the other room.
"I don't feel like coloring. I want to dance." She whined.
"Go ahead and dance then. But be careful because I don't want to have to go to the hospital again."
I looked at Harry for a second, craving answers but he looked distant.
"Harry. You said nobody would be home." I whispered at him frantically.
"I thought so."
"Harry? Is that you? I folded some of your clothes, their in your room now" a lady with brunette hair in a ponytail said as she walked into the doorway.
She stopped for a second looking at me, then Harry, while wiping her hands on her apron.
"Hello."
"Hi" I said scared out of my mind.
"Mom, this is Audrey."
I'm frozen.
"well it's nice to finally meet you. Harry's been talking abou--"
"mom, please" Harry interrupted.
I looked at Harry confused yet intrigued at the fact he mentioned me.
"We are going to go up to my room for a second. We have a game to catch. so we're kind of in a hurry."
"That's fine. Audrey do you want some cookies?"
"No thanks I'm alright" I said with a smile trying to look as innocent as possible.
"are you sure? They're gingerbread and they just came out of the oven."
"ok, sure."
**************
As soon as we walked into his room my mouth opened a little.
Pit wasn't messy or dirty like I had imagined, instead it was clean and looked very organized.
Dark blue was painted on the walls, there was a bed with dark grey comforters as well as clothes stacked on top. In the corner was a dresser, of course, and a trash bin that seemed to be full of paper except for a few random ones crumpled in a ball around it. And in the corner, hidden away slightly, was his guitar.
"Wow."
He looked at me before continuing to put his clothes away.
"wow?"
"I'm just surprised its so neat."
"yeah, I like things to be where they're supposed to be. You know have a spot where I know I can find them."
"you just seem so easygoing--"
"that doesn't mean I live in a pen" he said cracking a smile before looking up at me with his green eyes.
So beautiful.
I turned my head as quick as possible.
"come on" he said heading out the door and down the stairs.
"nice meeting you Audrey!"
"You too mrs. Styles! And nice seeing you again Molly!"
The little girl just stared at me.
