Protect You, Protect Me

Your Song

Gray got home from her run and talked it out with her mom. Surprisingly, Gloria was acting like she already knew this. Gray realized that she was the little bird divulging all her secrets to Liam.

“I think you should go, definitely. You need fun. As much as I love you, you need to be your age for a bit,” Gloria explained. Gray rolled her eyes. Yes, she spent more time with her family then being with her friends but what was she supposed to do. Her mom and sisters needed her.

“Are you sure? You think I should really do this?” Gray had doubts. She was a girl and all. The run home they all kicked in. She knew going into two other states for a weekend when she just met this man was a bit strange, and terrifying. So much could happen without her control.

“Definitely. Actually I demand you to go. Leave Friday and I don’t expect to see your face until I pick you up on Monday,” her mom barked, trying not to laugh. Gray saluted to her. “Aye aye sir.”

----

The past four days have been the longest ever for Gray. She suffered through work only to go home and think about Liam more. He was able to call briefly on Wednesday, but other than they that had no contact. His schedule was busy enough as it was. By the time Friday hit, she couldn’t get her legs to stop shaking from excitement.

“Alright sweetie, you ready for this?” Gray’s mom asked her. They were sitting in front of O’Hare, Gray’s plane left in an hour.

“Yep. All set. Remember, my flight will be in at 4:15. Don’t forget,” Gray exclaimed. Her mother was notorious for showing up late.

“Yeah yeah, I know. I will be here. Have fun, be smart, and use a condom!” Gray’s face went red.

“I’m leaving now, love you mom.” Gray jumped and headed inside to the US Airways ticket counter.

“Hi, I need to pick up my ticket.”

“Name?” the woman asked.

“Gray Cameron.” Her legs started to shake again. Come on lady, she had a man to see.

“Here you go, first class. You will be at Gate C6.” Gray stared at her. He put her in first class for a 45 minute flight! Lord. She thanked the lady and walked away with her bag, digging her phone out of her purse.

Me: Really? First class? You must think you are special for that crap.

Smirking at her message, Gray shut her phone off and headed to TSA. It was time for an adventure to start.

----

“Um… thanks for picking me up Steve,” she was trying to make small talk from the backseat. He met her at baggage claim at the airport, but hadn’t said a word to her. Just nudging his head for her to follow him to the car with her bags. She couldn’t figure out if he didn’t like her or if he just never was happy.

“We are here. They are still on for another 25 minutes,” he handed her a VIP pass,” put this on and leave it on. Follow me. Just stay where I tell you too.” She shivered at his tone.

They got out of the car and entered through a door in the back of the arena. Gray could immediately feel the energy in there. The bass pounded through the walls causing her hairs to stand up on her neck. This was amazing.

Steve pointed to the wall next to the exit, signaling to stay there and not move. Gray stretched her neck, just barely making out the feet of all the guys. She couldn’t tell who’s where Liam, but she knew he was out there. The boys played a couple more songs, before Zayn signed off to the crowd.

“Thank you Madison, we love you all!” The crowd cheered louder. Harry was the first to make it down the stairs followed by Louie, Zayn and Niall.

“Oh someone is going to be happy,” Louie whistled, walking by her. Gray barely had a moment to think before Liam’s lips came crashing onto hers. She didn’t even see him come down the stairs. His arms wrapped around her body, pinning hers in. He deepened the kiss and continued to walk her backwards until her back was against the wall.

“Hello love.” He had realized her mouth letting her come up for air. Gray smiled up at him.

“Hi,” she whispered. She peek her head around Liam’s body to see everyone staring that them.

“You created a scene,” Gray giggled. Liam stepped back and unpinned her body.

“Hey Gray, good to see you,” Niall joked, wiggling his eye brows up and down. Liam flicked him off.

“Shut it,” he grumbled. Liam grabbed Gray’s hand leading her past the small crowd and down the hallway to his dressing room. The boys laughed watching them walk away.

“Give me ten minutes to shower. Make yourself comfortable,” he said pointing to the couch inside. Liam grabbed some clothes from a bag lying on the floor and headed into the bathroom. What to do now she thought. She had never felt so embarrassed and turned on in her life. She heard the shower turn on at the same time there was a knock on the door. Louis peeked his head in.

“He showering,” he asked. She shook her head yes. Louis shut the door and ran over to sit with her on the couch.

“Thank God. He would murder me right now if he knew I was in here. He made us all promise to leave you alone or he’d pants us on stage,” Louie explained. Gray laughed and her eyes grew wide.

“You think he would really do that?”

“Yes. That is a definite yes. He did it to Harry before.” Gray laughed again. She remembered Gillian showing her that video on YouTube.

“I’ve never seen him like this Gray Goose. He is a completely different person when it comes to you,” Louis said.

“Gray Goose? What do you mean?” She questioned him.

“I think it’s a fitting name,” Louis smirked,” he is different, but not in a bad way. When it comes to you he gets all protective papa bear. Usually he is happy go lucky and ready to be sneaky, but once you come up on anything he turns around into a nervous wreck. The lads and I are so happy you showed. Otherwise we would have had to medicate him. He nearly forgot his part to ‘Little Things’ tonight. That never happens!” Gray was shocked.

“I guess, I’m sorry?” Gray didn’t know what else to say,” what’s his deal?”

“You Gray. You bewitched him.” Shivers once again ran down her spine. Louis smiled sincerely.

“Oh.” She was out of words. What do you even say to that? They both turned to hear the shower click off.

“I best leave. I'm not losing my trousers. Be nice to him Gray, he’s something you won’t want to leave go off.” Louie ran and shut the door right as Liam came out. She tried to act normal, but it was failing miserably. The back of his plain grey shirt had water marks like he rushed to get dressed.

“So which one bugged you,” he asked breaking her stare.

“What do you mean?” Busted.

“Love, I’m not dense. I can threaten all day but I know it will do no good. Let me guess, Louie?” He asked with his eyes twinkling. She shook her head in response.

“What did he say?” Liam came to join her on the couch.

“If they bugged me, you were going to pants them on stage.” Liam laughed out loud.

“That I did, with good reason though. Those four can be a rowdy group if you aren’t ready. I’ll let them have their fill with you tomorrow, for tonight you are mine.” Gray blushed again.

“Well, what’s the plan,” she asked him.

“Change of plans. We are driving to Minneapolis tonight. They couldn’t nail down security at the hotel here. Tour bus time it is.” He got up heading to his bag again, pulling out a sweatshirt and hat.
“As much as you are beautiful, I’d rather not have the whole universe see you, put these on.” Liam handed the the items.

“And why am I doing this?” She was confused beyond belief.

“Hiding you love. There are going to be a load of fans out there. Don’t worry, Steve will walk you out and get you on. We will be on shortly after meeting them all.” He must have counted the worried look on her face. She had heard horror stories on the news before with people and fans getting hurt around celebrities.

She quickly threw on the sweatshirt and hat. He stepped closer to her again making her heart stop.

“You look adorable.” Gray smiled back at him. He took her hand leading her out of the room and down another long hallway. Along with their security team, the rest of the guys were down there. She peeked through the window on the door to see flashes going off and random body parts in the air.

“Love, you look like you are going to faint,” Liam chuckled. He stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her body and resting his head on her shoulder.

“Let’s roll,” Steve barked. Liam gave her hand one last squeeze before Steve grabbed her elbow pulling her out the door. The roar of the fans was unreal. They first shouted thinking she was one of the boys, but calmed down after realizing she was a girl.

“Who is SHE?!”

“Who’s your boyfriend?”

“She best not be stealing Harry from me!”

The chants from the crowd made Gray walk faster. By the time she made it onto the bus, she had to bend over to catch her breath and laugh. Liam wasn’t joking one bit. That was a rush like no other. Gray looked around the bus, not realizing how big it was until now. The front had two separate tables and benches, plus a couch covering the right side. Farther up was a small kitchen that lead into eight bunks covering the sides. This bus was big enough for two bands, not just one.

She sat on the front couch watching the boys interact with their fans outside. Even from afar she could tell that they were in their element. They finished up their autographs and goodbyes and ran onto the bus. Niall, Harry and Zayn said her to hello with smiles and retreat to their bunks. It was already practically midnight and after a two hour show they were exhausted.

“You aced the test love. No falling, crying and swearing,” Liam joked with her, giving her a high five.

“Come to the back. Night Lou,” Liam said, acknowledging him.

“Goodnight you love birds! Gray, you make sure he uses a condom. I don’t want to be an uncle!” Louis laughed making Liam punch him in the arm.

“Ignore him,” Liam whispered, blushing. For once it wasn’t her being completely embarrassing. They walked into the back where Gray found another couch, except this one was huge. It was pretty much a bed that 5 people could of fit on comfortably. Liam ushered her in and closed the sliding door.

“Not much to do on here, but we do have movies. Care to watch one,” he asked her. Gray nodded in acceptance and stripped on his sweatshirt, being comfortable in just her plain fitted white tee. Liam started up the DVD player and motioned for her to join him on the mega couch. She crawled up finding herself laying between Liam’s legs and resting her head on his chest. His arms immediately wrapped around her waist keeping her tight.

“What are we watching,” Gray asked, trying to stop a yawn. He gave her a light kiss on the top of her head.

“No clue, Niall was in here last. Tired?” She shook her head yes. She yawned again and snuggled deeper into his body. He responded by tightening his arms around her more, giving her another kiss on the head. Gray was sleeping before the credits of the movie even started.

----

“Shhh, shut it!” Someone whispered loudly, causing Liam to stir. He fell asleep not much longer after Gray and they hadn’t moved since. He wanted to open his eyes and tell whoever it was to piss off but the warmth of Gray’s body stopped him. At some point during the drive she had flipped over on him. They matched up belly to belly. Gray had her head nestled into the crook of his neck and her arm thrown on top of his body. Liam, on the other hand, still had his arms protectively wrapped her body. He tried to moved in closer to her and rest his head on hers, but a bright flash went off. He looked over to see Zayn smiling at him.

“We are at the hotel,” Zayn whispered. Liam trying to move to speak to him, but Gray was dead weight in his arms. Her mouth was slightly open and quiet sleeping sounds were coming out. Liam smiled sheepishly at Zayn.

“Oh Liam, you are so in trouble.” Zayn chuckled, quietly leaving the room.

Liam wanted for him to fully leave before gently rocking Gray awake. She sat up quickly looking around trying to figure out where she was. She spotted Liam behind her and broke out into a sleepy grin.

“We are here. Hope you don’t mind, have to share a room. Two beds though,” he grinned sheepishly again. She nodded her head in agreement, not willing to talk at this point. Her body craved more sleep right now. They both stood off and stretched. Liam took a look out the darkened window. Thankfully, no press or fans were outside.

“Let’s go love.” He grabbed Gray’s hand tightly, pulling her behind him. They quickly walked off the bus and into the somewhat safe lobby of the Hilton. Steve was standing up ahead with the room keys.

“What room,” Liam roughly barked at him, not breaking his or Gray’s stride.

“1407.”

Liam quickly grabbed the key card and pulled Gray’s half awake body into the elevator. They traveled up in silence, neither of them having the energy to talk. Gray threw her arm around his waist and leaned into to put her had on his chest again. She had never been a morning person, or a good person right awake in the morning. No wonder she enjoyed coffee so much.

The elevator dinged open and they headed down the quiet hallway. Liam stopped at the door, putting in the key card and opening it wide enough for Gray to walk in first.

“Pick a bed love, I’ll be back.” He smiled at her and heading into the adjoining bathroom. Gray sat down the the closest bed from the door and tried to focus on the task at hand. She kept having to mentally tell herself that she was in Minneapolis with Liam and not at home. HOME, yes! She pulled out her phone from her pocket to check in with her mom.

MOM: You okay hunny? Alive?
MOM: Text me when you get this.

She smiled, her mom was so understanding. Any other normal parent would be freaking out right now.

ME: Here and alive. Just pulled into Minneapolis. Going to sleep love you.

Gray set the phone on the dresser and rubbed her eyes again.

“You are still awake I see,” Liam joked. He came out of the bathroom surprised to see her upright.

“My turn.” She went into the bathroom to do her business and check herself in the mirror. Holy bedhead. After attempting to pony up her hair twice, she doesn’t to roll with it. Now where was she going to sleep? Gray knew Liam was going to play the gentleman card and not crawl into bed with her. She only had two options. Sleep alone or sleep next to him. Normally, she wasn’t the most bravest person she knew, but considering she was in a town she may never visit again with a boy she may not see very much of, she knew what she had to do.

Grey quietly left the bathroom and piled off her shirt and pants, leaving her in just her underwear and tank top. She saw lying in the farthest bed away facing the wall. Quietly walking over, Gray pulled back to covers to see him in just boxer shorts. The wetness drained from her mouth. He looked hot, even from the back. She laid down in his to him pulling her arm over his stomach. Liam rolled over to look at her with big eyes. He gave her a reassuring smile before pulling her close into him.

“Goodnight Liam,” Gray said yawning. He kissed her head in response, and both closed their eyes to sleep.
