The Nanny

Pajama Day

"Mummy....mummy..."

Tiny hands patting my cheeks and a husky, sleepy voice were what pulled me out of the best sleep I had ever had.

Slowly I opened one eye to look up at my sons smiling giddy face making my own tired smile slip across my lips.

Harry's chuckle pulled my, now, both open eyes towards him.

"G'morning beautiful."

Waking up to those smiles, to my son and Harry, was most definitely my new favorite thing.
"Liar." I yawned before leaning up to place a kiss on Jamie's cheek. "Hi baby."

"We've just been up watching you sleep for a while now." Harry informed me as I pulled Jamie from his sitting position near my head onto my chest. "Then he decided that he would like to see you awake so I let him have at it."

"Gee thanks." I managed to say around the little fist that found its way into my mouth, eliciting giggles for Jamie.

Harry leaned in like he was going to kiss me and once again my heart did that stuttering in my chest. No matter how many times he was this close I had a feeling that stuttering would always be there.

But the kiss I was expecting never came; instead he wrinkled his nose with a sneaky smirk on his lips.

"You have morning breath."

My jaw dropped, Jamie giggled and Harry full on beamed at me.

"I do not. Rude."

But even at those words I brought my hand up to check my breath which only caused Harry to throw his head back onto the pillow and laugh harder.

"I hate you." I said after assuring myself my breath wasn't too bad considering.

Harry's head lifted off the pillow at my words, his laughter dying out and his smirk falling into a soft, sleepy smile as he lifted a hand to brush my hair behind my ear.

"No you don't." He said so quietly, I had to strain to hear.

And he was right but I wasn't going to give in so easily.

I rolled my eyes as I slowly sat up with Jamie, but Harry had other plans as his arms slipped around my waist and pulled me back until I was lying across his torso. "Where are you going?"

I giggled and allowed Jamie to crawl out of my arms and towards Harry where he proceeded to pat his slobbery hands on Harry's cheeks.

"I have morning breath, remember?"

At that point Harry was too busy trying to grasp my giggling son's wet hands to notice as I hopped off the bed and took advantage of both there preoccupation with each other.

"Mummy... come back." Harry mimed for Jamie, waving his little hands around as both boys watched me walk towards the door. I stopped to blow them a kiss before leaving them be.

I brush my teeth and change into some jeans and a shirt in record time making my way out into the hall just in time to hear the sound of the front door opening and quick, excited footsteps running to and up the stairs.

My smile grew at the sight of the pretty little girl with bouncing curls bounding her way towards me with a bright smile plastered on her face. I had missed her like crazy.

"ARIA!"

I bent down to catch her in a hug and pick her up, squeezing her affectionately. "Darcy baby, we missed you."

"I missed you too. Look what aunty Gemma got me." She gushed holding out a pretty little doll with matching curls.

"Oh wow. She's beautiful."

My eyes drifted up to Anne as she made her way up the steps much slower than her giddy granddaughter.

"Hello Aria."

"Hi Anne, how was she?" I said as soon as I set Darcy back on her feet, she quickly ran off towards her daddy's room where we could hear Jamie and Harry.

Anne waited before answering me as we both turned out attention towards the room at Darcy's shout for her father followed by a round of giggling from all three occupants of Harry's room.

A sense of completion washed over me at the sounds emitting from Harry's room.

My mind went to that place again, the place were that was my little family. Harry, Darcy, and Jamie were mine. It made my heart tug almost painfully but it was such a happy thought now.

Just yesterday I would have considered it dangerous or wrong but now... it seemed like a possibility and I wanted it.

I wanted it very, very badly.

I had never done well with wishes or dreams. They always seemed to shatter before me.

I had been so in love with Mark, had dreamed and made wishes that he would notice me.

A lot of good that did me.

I ended up alone, humiliated and without my family in a foreign country. The only good thing I ever had in my life was Jamie.

And now Harry was offering me up this new fantasy and everything in me was telling me to be wary, but Harry promise he wouldn't repeat my past, promised he would work hard to make this a reality for me, so I needed to make a leap of faith because when it was all said and done... I trusted Harry.

"Aria?" Anne's voice finally broke through my thoughts and the look on her face had me thinking she may have just been calling my name for a while.

"I'm sorry. What were you saying?" I said shaking my head loose of any lingering thoughts.

Anne chuckled at me and nodded her head towards Harry's room where the kids could still be heard giggling. "Sounds like they are having a good time."

I smiled once more at the laughter and Harry's tickle monster voice and nodded. "Yea it does."

She watched me for a while, slightly unnervingly, it felt like she could see through me. Like she could see my thoughts and feelings.

Like she could plainly see all the strong developing feelings I had for her son, and that was truly scary.

"Tell Harry I'll call him later."

My eyes widened as I watched her back away.

"Don't you want to stay? I'm sure Harry would want to see yo-"

She raised her hand to cut me off with a knowing smile plastered on her face. "I'm sure, right now, I'm not the person my son wants to walk into that room."

I was flabbergasted. I had no words.

She must have read my panicked look because she quickly elaborated with a laughing tone. "My son tells me everything, love. Not to mention, I know him better then he knows himself."

It seemed everyone around us knew how we felt for each other except for us.

"Now go. Enjoy your time with Harry and your children."

She didn't give me much of a chance to counter her as she quickly ran down the stairs and out the door.

"Did my mum just leave?" Harry's voice sounded behind me.

I spun around to face the most precious sight I had ever seen standing in the bedroom doorway.

In one arm he had Jamie with his little head resting on Harry's shoulder while my son sucked his fist and watched me, and on the other side he had Darcy attached to one of his long legs, little feet standing on one of his massive ones so when he walked she got a free ride, his hand held protectively to her back so she wouldn't fall.

It was the most adorable thing I had ever seen.

And Harry himself, shirtless and sleep tousled with the most pleased look on his face.

I could tell he felt it too.

The completion.

"Come back to bed with us. We're going to watch Monsters Inc." He urged tilting his head towards the inside of his room. His eyes swept my body before a pout shifted his lips downward. "You changed? Go change back. We're having a pajama day."

I giggled and shook my head walking up to him and the kids. "Don't you have work to do today?"

Recollections of the boys supremely unproductive writing from the day before flashing in my mind, and burning in my ears.

I don't think the biscuit song will ever be erased from my mind. It was damned catchy.

A smirk now appeared, once again, on Harry's face. "I'm sick. Can't you tell?" He said, adding a few fake coughs at the end.

I walked up to the trio and laughed. "I'm going to tell Louis."

As soon as I was close enough Harry leaned down so his face was right in front of mine. "Who do you think told me to lie in the first place?"

And without another word his lips were on mine.

Tiny giggles sounded from below followed by a faint "I knew it."

I could feel his smile on my own and for the first time in a very long time, I felt pure, unadulterated happiness.

Harry pulled away, giving me a quick peck before looking down at his daughter with amusement.

"You knew what you little monster?" He teased making her laugh harder.

"Aria is your princess. We can live happily ever after." She sounded so sure, so happy, and in that moment so was I. I would gladly live happily ever after with what I had right here in front of me.

Harry looked from Darcy to Jamie to me, his smile crinkling his eyes and slicing dimples into his cheeks and I couldn't look away.

"Are you gonna marry Aria daddy?" Darcy's tiny voice finally broke us away from our staring.

Harry let me take Jamie into my arms so he could pick Darcy up in his.

"Erm.. well... for now we're just...." He looked to me with a question on his face.

I really wanted to laugh at his expression but I managed to keep it in check.

How does one explain what was going on with Harry and I to a four year old?

"We're... special friends....?" He said looking at his daughter hoping she wouldn't ask too many questions.

Special friends??? Really Styles??

Even I was curious where he was going with this.

I mean, Harry and I were in that odd place where we wanted more but it was certainly too soon to say we were dating. And really he was talking to his daughter, he wasn't about to tell her I was his girlfriend anyway.

"Special friends?" She asked looking from me to Harry.

Harry looked up pleadingly at me, silently asking for help but I just raised an eyebrow waiting to hear what he was going to come up with on his own.

In that moment I was utterly thankful that Jamie was way too young to have to explain this to.

"Yea baby. Its, um, different than regular friends."

Darcy tilted her head to the side and I could almost see what she was going to ask forming on her face before she said it. It was surprising really that Harry didn't see it coming.

"Can I have a special friend daddy?"

Harry's eyes widened impossibly large and I had to hold my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing out loud at her words, which only had Harry sending me a quick glare.

"You better not have any special friends until your 50, do you hear me Darcy Anne Styles?"

Darcy only pouted but when she heard the giggle leave my lips she cracked her own smile. The kind of smile that secured Harry right around her little finger. "Okay daddy."

Well played baby girl.

Harry grinned and placed a kiss on his daughter s forehead before nodding towards his room.
And that was how we spent our day, after Darcy and I changed into our pajamas of course.

Harry on one side with Darcy tucked into his side; Jamie laid out beside her chewing on a teething ring while I tickled his feet from my spot on his other side of the bed, and over top of our children's heads, our free hand had rested interlocked as we watched the children's movie in our peaceful little moment.

Happy.

I was happy.

And complete.
