I Can't Help It
Chapter 45.
We made it to our little spot as Harry laid out the blanket.
" It's a little chilly out." I said looking around the dark scenery.
" Oh, here." He stopped what he was doing and draped his coat around my shoulders.
" Oh, thank you Harry." I smiled, he sat down on the blanket, and I followed his lead.
" No problem." Harry grabbed the basket, taking out it's contents.
" Is that a to-go bag from Kelly's?" I laughed as he pulled it out. He grinned.
" Yes. My cooking doesn't even compare to their bagels and tea." He smiled, handing me my warm tea and bag, which I assumed had the bagel in it.
" Oh my gosh." I said. I was at loss for words.
" You don't have to thank me." He smiled.
" This is amazing. Sitting out here in the peace and quiet, eating Kelly's and celebrating. Thank you Harry."
He lit a candle that sat inbetween us so we had more light.
" No thank you. For everything, Maria." He said finding my eyes. I sipped my tea and took a bite from my bagel.
" You know, teachers usually hate me." I laughed. He chuckled.
" Well, I've liked you since day one. Can I tell you something?" He asked. I nodded, swallowing a peice of my bagel.
" Of course you can."
He sighed.
" I honestly would not have known you were texting if I hadn't been watching you on the first day."
Aweee. That made my heart melt.
" Did you ever read the text?" I asked. He shook his head no.
" Well it was about you." I laughed. He grinned.
" That's good to hear."
" Yeah."
I finally finished my bagel, and we sat there, in silence, looking at the stars.
Harry laid back onto his back and patted the spot next to him.
" Come here." He whispered. I crawled across the blanket and laid down next to him, cuddling into his chest. His arm wrapped around my body, keeping my close.
He kept me warm as we gazed up at the stars together.
" I love you so much." I murmered.
" I love you Maria. Way more than just to the moon and back."
He whispered, taking a strand of hair from my face. I thought it was funny because right above us was a full moon.
" Isn't it so pretty." I said as we looked up at the sky.
" Yeah. Especially that one star." He lifted his arm up and pointed to it, showing me. it was right under the moon.
" Why that one?" I laughed.
" Because. It's name is Maria."
" What?" What?
" I named it Maria." He said. I sat up.
" You named a star after me?" I asked, looking down at him. He sighed, sitting up too, and pulling a paper out of the picnic basket.
" I sure did."
I took the certificate from him, reading over it. It clearly stated that the star above us is named Maria Summers.
" Oh my gosh!" I said. He chuckled. I hugged him.
" I can't believe you named a star after me." I was shocked.
" Yeah. That's not all either." He smiled. oh great. What else did he do? He sure is making me feel bad about just a watch..
I watched as he pulled another thing from the basket. It was a small velvet box. I gulped. Is that what I think it is?
" Is that.." I trailed off. He grinned, shaking his head.
" No. It's a promise ring." He smiled. I gasped.
" You got me a promise ring?" I smiled. He nodded. He clutched the box. It was silent as I stared at him, waiting for him to speak.
" Maria Summers... I'm in love with you. I really am. I fell for those blue eyes and chocolate curls since day one. I just fell in love with everything. Your laugh, your smile, your scent. I fell in love with how your eyebrows come together when your thinking hard, or how you bite your lip when your about to cry or laugh. I just love hearing you talk. Everything about you is perfect. so I want you to keep me a promise." He said.
By this time I was crying. I nodded.
" I'll promise anything." I sniffed.
He sighed.
" Do you promise, that after everything blows out. After college, after you begin your life, after it all, you'll come back to me?" He smiled. I could see the tears welling up in his eyes. He sure can hold it in better then me. I'm sitting here balling my eyes out.
" Yes. I promise. A hundred times yes." I said. He smiled, opening the velvet and revealing the ring.
It was perfect.
So elegant, so classy. It was just so, me.
I cried as he slipped it onto my hand. It fit like a glove.
" Oh Harry. You know I'll always come back to you." I weeped, laying back down, and pulling him with me. We cuddled into eachother.
" I know. I just wanted to hear you say it." He wiped at my tears. I fisted his shirt.
" I love you so much."
" I love you, Maria. Happy birthday."
