The Nanny
Chapter 5: Impossible
I stretched my arms out and yawned, harrys bed was way more comfortable than mine. I looked around the room, taking in my surroundings. He hadn't really changed anything since Chandler lived here. I got up slowly and walked around. His suitcase was still full of clothes, and his closet was home to only one jacket. I stroked the leather, it was cold but smelt nice.
"Having fun are you?"
I turned around fast, too fast actually, i ended up stumbling over Harrys suitcase and on to the floor.
I looked up at him, that smirk that i hated was planted perfectly on his face.
"Why didn't you unpack yet" i picked myself up and dusted myself off
"Didnt get to it yet" he said as he kicked his suitcase into the closet. "Want to do it for me?" He asked as he laid back on his bed.
I stood still, my arms crossed in their typical position, "only if you pay me" i huffed
Harry smirked and dug into his jeans, taking out a hundred dollars, he waved it in the air
I shook my head at him , "it was a joke" i walked out the room before he had the chance to reply. That was awkward enough.
I went to my room, got dressed, and packed a small bag, at 2 i was leaving for my full day off. I put the backpack over my shoulder and called the back up nanny. She was an elderly woman who i found to work for me today. She seemed sweet and agreed to come at whatever time i needed her. I slid the phone back in my pocket and made my way to the kitchen. Mr and Mrs Cline were home for once and were downstairs with Alek.
"What time are you coming back tomorrow" mr. Cline questioned. He was dressed up in a suit and tie , probably has another meeting.
"9pm sharp" i smiled
He nodded and kissed Alek on the forehead, as soon as he left Harry came into the kitchen. I still felt uneasy around his parents, i know i've been here for a year but i barely talked to them. They were kind and even took me out for my birthday, but it was just odd.
"You should ease up on the makeup, what are you, a clown" harry said as he opened a bag of chips. My mouth dropped a little, what a rude little shit.
"You should ease up on the tattoos, what are you, a human sketchbook" i spat back
He opened his mouth to say something when he noticed my bag and laughed , "aw did i scare off the nanny already" he pretended to be sad
"No, i'm taking a day off" i grabbed a bottle of water
"Who's going to take care of Alek" he questioned
"Dont worry your pretty little ass, you wont have to do a thing. I found a substitute nanny, she'll be here soon" i sat down in one of the kitchen chairs.
Harry laughed, "so you think my ass is pretty huh?"
I rolled my eyes at him and went to the front door. Alek followed me, tugging at my leg
"Why do you have to go" he looked upset
"Ill only be gone for a while ok? Ill be back tomorrow, and you have my number on the phone i gave you, remember what button to hold if you ever need me?" I waited for a response
"I hold down 2" he said cutely
I hugged him tightly. I had given him an old phone of mine so he could call me whenever he needed something.
"Also babe, dont let anyone else touch that phone okay?" I said as i looked up to a smirking Harry standing near us.
Alek nodded his head and i got back up to my normal height.
I was telling Alek to let me know if Chandler calls when i heard a knock on the door. I opened it to find the new nanny. I greeted her with a hug and gave her a list of directions. While she was talking to Alek, Harry pulled me into the kitchen again.
"You're kidding right? You're going to let her take care of Alek? Shes too old, she can barely take care of herself." He spoke quietly so they wouldnt over hear us
I looked at him in disbelief "what did you expect? A 20 year old girl"
He nodded his head, "well yeah"
I felt the anger boiling up in me, i stuck my finger in his chest and practically yelled , "you made fun of me for being 22 and a nanny and now you expect me to find another nanny the same age as me?" I dropped my hand, calming myself down a bit , "suck it the fuck up." I turned around to leave when i felt him grab my hand again. He spun me around and held me firmly in place , "you cant just leave Alek like that"
I sighed and unwrapped his hand from my arm "its only a day,harry" and with that i was off.
Mrs.Cline allowed me to use one of their cars for my 'trip'. It was a short ride downtown but i was still thankful for the car.
I pulled into Rae's driveway and smiled. Her house was small but felt more like home than that big mansion did.
She opened the door when she heard my car turn off. I ran up to her door and gave her a long hug, we did that weird thing where you sway slightly and it made us laugh. She took my bag from my hand and brought it up to her room. We made coffee and sat down in her bedroom, just talking. I continued where i left off from our conversation on the phone. I told her about how harry got into my room
"Thats what happens when people have one too many drinks" she said as she sipped her coffee
"Yeah well trust me it was uncomfortable and awkward"
She looked at me and half smiled, "i bet he was in jail"
I almost choked on my drink , "Rae, he was not in prison"
"Yes he was!"she declared, "he got kicked out of his parents home and he has tattoos and piercings. It all makes sense"
I shook my head , "your brother has tattoos, are you telling me he went to jail?"
“He’s different. He only has one tattoo and it was because he was drunk.”
I raised an eyebrow at her
“For gods sake Zo, its a tattoo of a flower. He didn’t go to jail, nor will he ever.”
I laughed at her. She was defensive when it came to her family. I kind of felt bad that she assumed Harry went to jail just because of his looks, but i suppose i can’t really blame her.
We spent all night watching movies and catching up on life. It felt good to relax and spend time with my best friend. I loved Alek but everyone needs a break. I always worried about him so it felt nice to take the tension off me for once.
Rae and I had just fallen asleep when my phone started vibrating. I looked at the caller ID and it was the phone i gave to Alek. Why was he calling me at 12 in the morning? I answered the phone, my voice was rough since I just woke up, “What’s wrong?” I asked
“Its Alek” harry said, “He needs you now, hurry” his voice was panicked. I tried to ask what happened but he hung up. I immediately jumped out of bed and got dressed. I left Rae a note explaining what happened and drove off back to the mansion. I’ve been gone for 10 hours and they managed to screw something up. When I got to the front entrance Harry was already waiting at the door. I pushed past him “Wheres Alek” I yelled.
He grabbed my hand, “Calm down, you’ll wake up my parents”
I looked at him, my face was scrunched up, “If your parents are home why’d you call me?What happened? wheres Alek? Wheres the nanny?” I was talking fast
Harry pulled me to the kitchen and there i found Alek eating ice cream. “Hi zoe!” he cheered.
I looked up at Harry , he looked back and laughed, “He told me to call you alright, he missed you”
I smacked Harry's arm and walked over to Alek. I took a piece of paper and wet it, I wiped his face since it was covered in ice cream “You had me worried, I thought something happened to you” I whispered.
“Sorry Zoe” Alek replied as he hugged me. I laughed and shook my head. I knew a break from this family was going to be impossible.
"Having fun are you?"
