Chapter 14
Pissed. Thats what i was. I was pissed off, infuriated. How could he use me like that? Yeah we weren't actually 'together' or anything but that doesn't mean he's allowed to toy with my emotions. God, how could I have been so stupid? I should've known it was all just a mirage, it appeared to be more than it actually was. From day one he said he was having fun with me, so why did i fall for the act?
I stormed up to my room, pushing the door open and cringing when it collided with the wall. "It's official, I'm done" i said as i went to the closet, "I'm quitting."
Rae, who was in our bathroom, ran out to see why I was yelling. "What the hell do you mean youre quitting?"
I pulled my clothes off the hangers, throwing them on the bed, "i can't do this anymore" i said with my back still facing her, "it's too much. I didn't sign up for this shit"
"Um Zoe, you actually did. It's your job to deal with their crap, remember?" Rae walked over and put a hand on my shoulder, "no matter what happened, you can't leave Alek alone and you know that"
I took a deep breath but didn't turn around.
"Thats the thing Rae, Mrs.Cline told me to, just before she left. I still don't understand why, but the past few days all i've been doing is repeating her words in my head"
"What?" Rae asked, she turned me around and the confusion on her face matched the one i had the day it all happened.
"Before she left she took me close and whispered 'don't let Alek turn into them,and leave as soon as he turns 16', or something like that" i said as i waved a hand in the air, dismissing the thought, "she didn't say anything else. And she hasn't contacted me since. What if she knew that the men in this family were assholes and she was warning me? Rae, maybe she's right, maybe i should leave."
Rae rolled her eyes, "you can't be serious? She was probably drunk. And either way, she said to not let Alek grow up to be like the others, which means you can't leave now."
I groaned and sat on the edge of the bed, "wheres Alek?"
"Outside with the butler"
i sighed, "I need to talk to him"
She raised her eyebrows questioningly "About?"
"I'm telling him goodbye."
"Zoe don't be-"
"I can't." I cut her off, "I can't do this anymore. I feel used and disgusting. I don't care how long I've been working here, I can't handle all this mental abuse. Its so frustrating. Mr.cline confuses the fuck out of me and now Harry too. It's just all too much." I sighed and grabbed my bags, "it sounds ridiculous to you, but you don't know what I'm going through. You can't feel what i feel........... I should've listened to my parents and gone to college"

My bags were all packed and so were Rae's. We decided to leave together and stay at her place, then later on in the week we could go to the Cline mansion and take all my things. I also decided that it'd be best to wait until the cab arrived to tell Alek I was leaving. If the cab was here and my stuff was already packed, then I wouldn't be able to change my mind.
I exchanged numbers with Andrew so that we could talk again and hang out, he definitely seemed like he could use a friend and he was such a sweetheart to me. I said my goodbyes to him and made him promise to not tell anyone we were leaving. I only planned on saying goodbye to him and Alek.
When the taxi finally came we put our suitcases in the trunk. Rae waited in the back while I went inside the house to quickly find Alek. He spends most of his time in the movie room so it wasn't that hard to find him.
I heard muffled noises of a movie behind the closed door. With a soft knock i pushed it open, "Alek?"
I walked in and found him passed out on the bean chair. I let out a sigh of relief. I admit, i was secretly hoping I wouldn't have to do this.
I wasn't going to wake him up just to say goodbye, so i took out a piece of paper from my purse and wrote a short letter to him. I searched my thoughts and tried to remember how advanced he was at reading. I shook my head, there was no point in thinking too much about it, there was only one thing i wanted to say to him.
To my favorite Cline,
Stay sweet. I love you.

I folded the note into his hand and with one last kiss to his cheek, i was off.

Two days passed since we arrived at Rae's home. It felt indescribably good to wake up with no responsibility or worries. My phone had turned off the night I left and I've been to lazy to charge it, and the best part was that I didn't care. Like i said, i had no responsibilities, which meant I had no use for my phone, especially since I was living with my best friend.
"Orange juice?" Rae asked me as i walked into the kitchen
"No thanks" i said as i settled for a bottle of water.
"You know you have to go get your stuff today right?"
I groaned, "I really don't want to"
"Doesn't matter, you can't keep pushing it off. Plus its not that bad, they wont even be home."
I took a sip of water "Are you coming with me?"
"Nope, have to go see my bro, he said it was urgent"
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, but I'll need to borrow your cellphone, i haven't charged mine yet."
"Uhhh i don't think so" Rae said, "just use the car charger"
I groaned in annoyance again and grabbed the car keys off the counter.
I got in the car quickly and put my phone to charge. Taking a deep breath, i put the car in reverse.

When I got to the mansion it appeared to be empty aside from the usual staff. The security recognized me and let me in with no questions asked. I strolled through easily until i got to my old room. I pushed hard on the door but it wouldn’t budge. I can’t believe I locked myself out of my own room. Yet I don’t even remember locking it before leaving. I went to the kitchen and grabbed the house phone. I buzzed for security and they instantly answered. “I got locked out of my room, do you guys have a spare key?” I asked. I heard the guy talking to someone in the back. After a while he came back on the phone, “No, we don’t have keys to the inside areas of the home. We stop people from getting onto the property, we don’t control anything that happens indoors.”
I shook my head, he has got to be fucking kidding me.
I decided that there was no use in sticking around here anymore so I went outside to my car. I grabbed my phone to call Rae, it was probably charged by now. The instant i picked up my phone my mouth dropped; over 60 missed call alerts were on the lock screen of my iphone. Some were from a random number, two were from my parents, and the rest were from a number I recognized well. I had completely forgotten about the phone I gave Alek to use to call me incase of emergencies, I didn’t expect him to bring it with him everywhere. I pushed off calling Rae and instead called Alek. Either he missed me, or there really was an emergency. I wasn’t about to risk not finding out.
Someone picked up on the second ring.
“Alek?”
“zoe!! Where are you!!!! Why didn't you come back yet??” Alek sounded panicked
“Is everything okay? I told you to use that phone for emergencies only”
“This is an emergency, you have to come back today, you can't-”
Alek was cut off and the phone went silent.
It was Harry, “Zoe?” he asked
I hesitated, “What?”
“Where are you”
“Can you put Alek back on?”
“If you want to talk to Alek you’re going to have to come see him”
I groaned, “Stop Harry, I’m not in the mood for this. Why’d you guys call? Is everything okay?”
“No, it’s not okay. Alek-” he paused
I raised my voice “Alek what? What happened to Alek?”
He hung the phone up.
I called him back but there was no answer. I called Rae.
“I don’t know what’s going on anymore, Alek called me with the phone i gave him for emergencies and I called them back but Harry won't tell me what's wrong. Rae what do I do?” I panicked
“Woah, calm down.” She breathed, “just go over there, did you get your stuff?”
“No, the doors locked.”
“Ok” she paused as she thought, “Then go back to the beach house, make sure Alek’s okay and then you can use that as an excuse to get your keys”
