Do you remember?

The intensity

Meg's POV
When I woke up, Jay was already up. She was sitting on her bed with tissues all around her. I could see her face was all red.
“Jay, please don’t cry.” I said gently. I could not bear to see her sad, not again.
“I’m done crying, it’s okay now.” She said shaking her head. I sure hoped that was true, she shouldn’t spend her precious tears on boys.
“Do you want to wake up the girls so we can call the room service and get some breakfast?” I asked.
She stopped for a second and then she said, “No, I’ll go to the nearest Starbucks to get breakfast and coffee. I’ll get on the Wi-Fi and call my parents when I’m there.”
I realised she needed some time alone so I just nodded.
She put on some clothes and rushed out.

Jay’s POV
I needed to be alone for some time. I looked terrible, but what could you expect crying instead of sleeping this entire night. I could not care less about what I was wearing or what my hair looked like, I just wanted to eat something, get my morning coffee and sit there alone. I really should phone my parents, thank goodness, we all had viber so I just had to connect to Starbucks’ Wi-Fi. It was 9 am here, so it was 10 am in Zagreb. The phone rang once, twice, three times. After the third ring, my mum picked up her phone.
“Halo?” It was so nice to hear her voice after a while.
“Mum! Good morning!” I was so used to speak in English that I forgot to switch languages.
“Young lady, after all I am your mother, it would be nice if you talked to me in Croatian, as I raised you.” I knew she would ask me to do that.
“U redu, mama. Kako si?” [Alright, mum. How are you?]
“Odlično sam, kako si ti? Kako ste se snašle tamo? Je li vas netko gnjavio? Jesi li se čula sa Sebastijanom?” [I’m great, how are you? Have you settled down there? Did anyone bother you? Have you talked to Sebastian?]
“Odmah smo našle hotel, I nitko nas nije gnjavio. Čula sam se sa Sebastijanom, on je u istom hotelu kao i mi, zapravo smo na istom katu. I danas ćemo vjerojatno izaći negdje van s njim I njegovim prijateljem. Kakvo je vrijeme u Zagrebu?” [We found the hotel right away and no one bothered us. And I talked to Sebastian, he’s in the same hotel as we are, we’re on the same floor actually. And we’re probably going out somewhere tonight with him and his friend. How is the weather in Zagreb?]
“Do jučer je padao snijeg, sada je samo hladno. Kod tebe?” [It was snowing until yesterday, now it’s just cold. Over there?]
“Samo je hladno.” [It’s just cold.]
“Čuj, jel te mogu kasnije nazvati, trenutno imam posla?” [Listen, can I call you later, I am a bit busy now?]
“Može, čujemo se.” [Of course, talk to you later.]
“Volim te, bok.” [I love you, bye]

And that’s how my conversation with my mum ended. At least, it stopped my crying. Now I had nothing to do, thank Goodness I brought a book with me so I just sat there, drank my chocolate cappuccino and read “Tempted” from the serial of “House of Night”.
Then I heard a familiar voice ordering fruit tea. I turned around and saw Joshua standing at the counter. The waitress was flirting with him but he acted as if he didn’t see it, but I knew he did. I turned back to my table and continued reading my book when I heard him coming close to me.
“Jay?” He called my name, I couldn’t help but smile. Then I turned to him.
“Hey Joshi! Are you here alone?” He sat in front of me and looked at my book.
“Yes, I didn’t want to wake Sebastian up. I see you’re reading Tempted again? Didn’t you read the exact same book when we were on Lošinj this summer?”
I couldn’t believe he remembered that detail. It reminded me of how caring he was. I looked at him and wished I could say something smarter than just “It’s among my favourites. How come you remember those details about this summer, it was 6 months ago!” He was playing with my bookmarker. When I finished the sentence he looked at me and said “ I remember all the things we did, said and thought. Those were the most valuable times in my life.”
I just looked at him for a while, and then he interrupted the silence.
“So why are you here all alone?”
“I needed some time alone.”
He started to get up but I grabbed his hand.
“Please stay with me.” I guess a tear rolled down my cheek because he reached his hand and wiped it away.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Okay then.”
We just sat there holding hands. I swear we looked like a couple from the movies. I remembered why I fell for him the first time, we were so alike. While he was looking at me, I knew he felt the same. Those beautiful grey eyes pierced a hole in my heart with the intensity of his stare.
