When You Let Your Heart Win
"So... what do you want to talk about…?"
"First, please sit down." El smiled pointing at the chair beside her bed.
"I'd actually like to stand." I laughed biting the inside of my lip as I stood in the spot I've been rooted in for the past half hour or so. "What's up?"
"Excuse me?" I looked at her like she was mental. Which I actually think she is, but now's not the time for that.
"I apologised before, but I feel like I need to again; I'm sorry for this." She looked down at her hands. "I… I can't imagine what you're actually feeling."
"I think you do." I laughed motioning to her lower half. "That shit looked painful."
"Oh it was." She nodded frantically, then looked at me. "I'm so sorry I hurt you."
"It wasn't just you." I shrugged.
"I know." She whispered looking back at her hands. "I'm sorry I said the things I did back in Doncaster as well. I'm sure Louis told you whenever he found you."
"I'd never cheat on him."
"I thought I married him for crying out loud, and I don't cheat on people who I love, let alone anyone." I continued.
"I know that." She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "I just said those things because I was angry. He's been around these past eight months, but then again he hasn't and it's so aggravating. I just want... I want him to be there for Shay. She deserves a good father. I chose the right person to… sorry to say, but to get me pregnant."
"I understand that." I whispered finally moving from my spot and sat in the chair she wanted me to sit in from the start.
"I don't want to do this alone, Teddy." She came right out and started to sob. "I know this hurts you, and again I am so sorry, but I can't do this on my own."
"No, it's okay." I shook my head and got up quickly and sat sideways on her bed and hugged her. "Louis' going to be there, you have your family and friends. You have... you have me." I whispered and hearing me say that, she just sobbed harder. "Shh shh sh."
"I seriously messed up." She whispered pulling away and wiped her face. "I should've just got an abortion."
"No." I pulled my eyebrows together. "If you did that, you wouldn't have Shay right now. Every time you talked about her, you got the biggest smile on your face. You're ready to be a mum."
"I am." She nodded as she sniffled. "I just wish it was with someone who wanted her. Wanted me. Who's going to want me now?"
"Some blokes like the mum thing. It shows they can take care of themselves and another human being. The guys you need to search for won't be a pub or club, he'll probably be in a library or at a Starbucks." I teased because of her high addiction to Starbucks, and it worked, because it got her to laugh. "The right one comes along whenever you least except it."
"Like you and Louis." She smiled placing her hand over mine. "I will continue apologising for this for the rest of my life if I have to."
"You don't need to." I shook my head. "Just… just don't lie to us."
"And don't try to come between us." Louis spoke behind me, making us both jump and look at him. He held Shayla in his arms. He looked like a natural. Of course he did, he has six younger siblings, but that doesn't mean he doesn't look good with a baby in his arms. "I'm going to be there for her, but us, we're just co-parenting."
"Got it. I promise I'll be good. No more secrets." El nodded lifting herself up some before holding her arms out. "Can I please hold her?" She looked like she was about to beg, but when Louis started to move closer to the bed, she lost the begging look and replaced it with pure joy. As much as I hate this, she's happy to have baby Shayla. "Hello, my beautiful girl." She whispered smiling so brightly at her. "Is she okay?"
"The doctors said she'd perfect." Lou nodded moving to the other side of her bed and sat in the chair I sat in briefly before tapping his knee, telling me to sit there, and I didn't protest.
"I had a feeling you'd be good." El baby talked. "You're a strong little girl, aren't you?" El continued on and on. "Where's my parents and Lani?"
"I think they went to get us all something to eat." Lou shrugged.
"Oh thank God." El groaned. "I'm starving."
"I think we all are, really." Lou laughed as he turned me sideways. "You okay?" He whispered as I curled up onto his lap.
"Yeah." I nodded playing with his hair at the back of his neck. "Are you?"
"Yeah." He nodded looking at me. "Are we okay?"
"We were fine an hour ago, what changed?" I shrugged looking over at El and Shay. El moved her around and had her laying on the top of her thighs as she talked to her. Telling her how beautiful she was and how much she already loved her. It was a beautiful moment.
"Can I take a picture of this?" I asked making El look over at us quickly.
"Yeah." She nodded.
"I won't get her face in it if you want to post it online later." I offered getting up and dug my phone out of my coat pocket.
"She'll grow up in the spotlight, there's no used in hiding her now." She shrugged and looked back down at Shay. "She's so precious."
"She looks a lot like you." Lou laughed.
"Thank God." I laughed, which made El laugh slightly.
"I'm sure she'll look like you when she grows up." El said glancing at us quickly before going back to Shayla. "How do you want us?"
"Like you were when I asked; talking to her and smiling like a mad woman." I smiled sitting on both of Louis' knees and pointed my phone towards the two on the bed.
"Like this?" She asked looking at me quickly before looking back at Shay.
"Smile a little bigger." I laughed. "Right there." I smiled and snapped the picture and quickly looked at it. "Perfect." I whispered handing my phone to El so she could see.
"Post it, please?" She smiled handing me my phone back.
"No." I shook my head. "That's your job. I'll send you it."
"Teddy, you're practically her stepmum." She laughed. "I'm giving you permission to post it. It was your idea and you took it, so you're entitled to post it."
"Babe, just go home."
"I won't be able to sleep if I do." I shook my head as I was curled up in a chair, fighting off sleep.
"You won't be there." I shrugged watching him crouch in front of me. "I'm fine here."
"Both of you can go home and get some rest." El whispered.
"No." I whined sitting up. "That's just wrong. Louis needs to be here."
"And you should go home and sleep in an actual bed." Louis fought with me.
"I will get security to throw you both out if I need to." El warned. "I want to spend some alone time with her before we go home."
"You'll probably want help in the middle of the night." Lou pointed out.
"I'll be fine. I need to get used to this." She smiled looking at Shayla. "I know you have rehearsals here soon, so go rest up. I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive." She nodded. "Lani went home to shower, so she'll be back soon and she'll probably stay with me."
"Call us if you need anything." I offered.
"Yeah, and we'll be back tomorrow morning." Lou added.
"Jet lag will probably hit you two here soon, so don't worry about getting here early." She laughed. "My family's coming around tomorrow, so it'll be crowded enough."
"And awkward." I added.
"Yes." She laughed. "And awkward. But for real, go rest up. We'll be here when you come back."
Aw wasn't that touching? What did you think? What's going to happen next?
