When You Let Your Heart Win
“How is this fair?!”
“Ignore him.” I giggled looking around at the girls. “Fizzy, you keep making snowballs, Lottie and Phoebe, we’re going to throw Fizz’s snowballs. Aim for the face.”
“What am I suppose to do?” Daisy asked.
“Babe, you’re going to distract them.” I smiled evilly. “You’re going to walk towards the house like you’re going inside to do whatever and when they stand up…”
“How do you know they’ll stand up?” Lottie interrupted me.
“Do you know your brother and Stan?” I asked with a straight face.
“Okay, you got a point.” She nodded and waved a hand for me to continue.
“Right.” I smiled. “Daisy, you’re going to act like you’re going inside, but you pockets will be filled with snowballs and whenever we start firing, you fire right along with us.”
“My snowballs won’t fit in her pockets!” Fizz shrieked.
“It’s okay.” I giggled kneeling down with her. “She only needs about ten.”
“It’s a smaller number than what you think.” I teased and helped her make little snow balls and gently started to stuff Daisy’s pockets.
“How do I do this?” Dais asked whenever we were stuffing her. “Like how do I know they won’t hit me?”
“I’ll yell at them if they try to hit you.” I smiled tweaking her nose. “Ready to start acting?”
“Yup!” She smiled.
“Fizz, do you have enough snowballs ready?” I asked as I watched her walk on her knees back and forth our fort to give Phoebe, Lottie and myself a good amount of snow balls.
“I got more than enough ready.” She snorted. “I got big, small, medium, gigantic snowballs. They. Are. Going. Down.”
“Shut up!” I yelled.
“How is this fair? Five against two?”
“You should've made more friends as a kid!” I giggled along with the girls.
“Anyways.” I rolled my eyes and looked back at the girls. “Everyone ready?”
“Yup!” Phoebe grinned. She looks evil. Just saying.
“I have to pee.” Daisy bounced from one leg to another.
“Good thing you’re ‘going inside.’” Lottie giggled.
“Alright, we gotta work quick.” I giggled. “Hold it.”
“Can I go now?” She laughed.
“Yes.” I smiled standing up. “If you throw a snowball at Daisy, I will tear you to shreds. She’s gotta pee.”
“Whatever!” Stan yelled.
“I will make her piss on you, Lucas!” I warned.
“Alright, we won’t throw at her.” Lou said standing up. “Daisy, you’re free to go.”
“Go.” I whispered. “Girls, get ready to throw at them when Daisy get’s closer to them.”
“They’re so going down.” Fizzy laughed sneaking a glance as Lottie, Phoebs and myself grabbed a few snowballs and got ready.
“If we lose, girls, it was nice knowing you.”
“Louis, you got it down my shirt!” I squealed picking up some snow and running after him and quickly jumped on his back and shoved snow in his face.
“You made my sisters take your side!” He laughed falling down.
“It’s not my fault I’m more fun!” I giggled trying to get up but he just held onto my leg. “Get off!”
“No!” He laughed throwing me into the snow. I’m glad I wore tights underneath my clothes or I’d be frozen. “Stan!”
“No!” I yelled trying to get away. “Girls, help!”
“Hey, get off her!” Fizzy came out from behind our, half up, half destroyed snow fort followed by the other girls.
“Stan, hurry!” Lou laughed lifting his hood up and guarded his face into my stomach.
“Ahh!” I squealed. We’re losing this battle. But they’re boys. They got more arm strength than what five girls do. I’ll never live this down.
“We’re busy!” Lou yelled straddling me as Stan got attacked by Fizzy and the others dropped their snowballs and ran to go inside.
“Get off.” I giggled.
“No.” He smiled grabbing some more snow and right before it got thrown in my face, Louis got tackled by his sister. Life savour. “Fizzy!” He whined.
“You don’t do that to Teddy.” She warned shoveling snow in his face as I got up.
“Should we interfere?” Stan asked as he stood beside me, both of us trying to catch our breath.
“They look like they’re having a good time, so I say no.” I shook my head as I smiled down at Fizzy literally digging Louis’ head into a hole and burying his head.
“Agreed.” He nodded. “Let’s go eat all the food?”
“I like the way you think, Lucas.” I approvingly nodded. “Have fun getting your arse kicked by your little sister, babe.”
“Wha… Babe, help.” He begged.
“Sorry, your mum called for dinner.” I giggled.
“Fizz, get up.” I heard him plead with his sister.
“You’re not so tough now, are ya?” She retorted.
“Fizz, I can take you in a second if I wanted to.” He sighed making me giggle and walk into the house, then followed by a loud shriek by her.
“He’s so rude.” I shook my head as I started to take off my top layer of clothing.
“What brother isn’t?” Stan laughed walking into the dining room. “Man, Teddy, the food’s gone.”
“What?” I yelled walking after him quickly.
“Just kidding.” He laughed, making me punch him. “Ow! That hurt.”
“And you’re an arse.” I huffed pushing him and sat down.
“Stan, you’ve known Teddy for how long?” Lottie laughed. “You don’t lie to her about food being gone. She’d kill us all.”
“I don’t even know why I believed him.” I huffed. “Jay wouldn’t make the mistake in not making enough food. Especially if I’m here.”
“You know me so well, love.” She smiled sitting down and sighed. It’s gotta suck to be pregnant with twins. Again. “Where’s Louis and Fizzy?”
“When we came in, Fizz was attacking Louis for attacking Teddy.” Stan laughed with a slight mouthful.
“She’s my girl.” I smiled proudly that she came to my rescue. “Oh, and thanks for running for the food and leaving me out there.” I fake scoffed at Lottie, Daisy and Phoebe.
“You’re welcome.” Lottie winked.
“I was hungry.” Phoebs giggled.
“I knew you’d win.”
“Only because I got tackled.” Lou huffed walking in with a smiling Fizzy and pushed me slightly.
“What?” I huffed looking up at him.
“Sit on my lap, you nut.” He rolled his eyes.
“Stan’s fat arse is here.” He smirked over at his best friend for what? Twelve years? I lost count.
“Thanks, mate.” Stan nodded as I got up and got pulled back down onto Lou’s lap.
“Anytime.” He laughed moving around me and fixed himself a plate.
“Hun, do you want me to grab you a chair?” Jay asked.
“We’re fine.” Lou shook his head. “Bear’s warmer than me.”
“And who said I wanted to sit on your lap?” I teased.
“You always want to sit on his lap.” Stan snorted.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I scoffed looking at him.
“Let’s not.” Dan coughed.
“Why?” I pouted.
“With a mind like Stan’s…” He trailed.
“He’s got a point, Teddy.” Stan nodded. “But it wasn’t like I was talking about Louis’ birth… ow!”
“Shut up.” Lou growled.
“Louis.” My turn to growl.
“I didn’t say a thing.”
“What are you talking about?” Daisy looked over at us and asked.
“Nothing.” I shook my head. “Someone just has a big mouth.”
“I’m sure he’s not the only one.”
“Stan!” Jay scolded him.
“Sorry, Jay.” He laughed then looked at the time. “Shite, is that the time?”
“Yeah, leave.” I spat.
“Don’t worry about it, love.” He smiled getting up. “I won’t tell anyone. Who am I going to tell? My nan?”
“I don’t know!” I yelled. “You have a strange mind.”
“True.” He nodded then took another bite quickly. “Fabulous meal, Jay. Sorry that I’m winning snowball fights, dining and dashing. Mum will pummel me if I don’t get back for whatever holiday film is on tonight.”
“I know how she is.” She waved off. “Tell her to give me a ring after the holidays, so we can get together and have a girls day.”
“Sure thing.” He nodded. “Bye everyone. Happy Christmas, happy birthday, Lou. Teddy, take it easy on the old bloke.”
“Bye, Stan!” Lou mumbled, practically pushing him away from the table.
“Who won the snowball fight for real?” Dan asked.
“We did!” Stan yelled from the door. “Don’t believe whatever Teddy’s about to tell you!”
“Leave you stupid loon!” I yelled back and heard him laugh and I turned back to amused faces. “We, the girls, won.”
“Don’t lie, Louis.” I shushed him. “I have four others that can back me up. You just have Stan. The bloke that’d lie about anything.”
“You just basically described yourself, love.”
“I don’t lie.” I frowned.
“Anyways.” I smiled turning to Jay and Dan, who still looked amused. “How was your day? After we went outside, did you two actually get to relax?”
“No.” Jay scoffed. “I had to make someone’s birthday dinner.”
“But I’m your favourite, so you don’t mind.” He leaned around me and smiled at him mum.
“Ha!” Lottie laughed loudly.
“No need to be jealous, Lottie. I’m just stating well known facts.” Lou sighed scratching my legs softly, sending goosebumps all over my body. Does someone like me in skin tight tights?
“Stop.” I whispered back to him.
“Why?” He smiled.
“Because I said so.” I slapped his hand when he did it again.
“Sorry.” He laughed sitting up and pressed himself against my back. “But you look fucking hot.”
“What movie is on tonight anyways?” I sat up a little straighter, causing Louis to chuckle quietly.
“I think It’s A Wonderful Life, but I could be mistaken.” Jay answered and picked up some empty plates. “Done, poppet?”
“Yeah.” I nodded going to get up, but shockingly Louis pulled me back down. “Louis?”
“It’s either me pulling you down or mum pushing you back down.” He laughed. “You’re not helping.”
“What if I was going to go change?” I turned to sit on his lap sideways and raised my eyebrows at him.
“We all know you were going to try to help, you don’t have to try to explain yourself.” He smirked running his hand up and down my back soothingly.
“Whatever.” I sighed at the relaxing feeling he was giving me. “Before I fall asleep.” I jumped up quickly. “I’m going into the living room and claiming a couch.”
“Teddy, do you mind starting a fire?” Jay asked walking back into the room.
“No I got it.” Dan got up.
“I can do it.”
“Babe, let Dan do it.” Lou laughed. “We don’t need to be homeless for the holidays.”
