The Missing Piece
Chapter 1
Tayla POV
We recently moved to Ireland, about one month ago, my grandma lives here so we moved next door to her. Mum got offered a job as a professional photographer, so mum, me and my sister, Felicity, all moved here so that mum can pursue her dream in being a professional photographer. My dad’s not around to see her dream being fulfilled, he passed away from cancer when I was 6, which was 10 years ago. We are all still shocked about it, but he’s still here, we just can’t see him. It messed mum up a bit, she gets angry all the time, and rarely does anything with us, mum tried having a boyfriend, but it didn’t work out, she couldn’t get over dad.We all miss him greatly, he was the one who taught me how to play the guitar and piano, I don’t play anymore, at my piano there is an empty spot next to me where dad used to sit, I couldn’t handle it any more so I stopped. Mum still brought the piano over here just in case I want to start playing again.
“Tayla, come help me?” I looked up to mum carrying grocery bags and dumping them on the table, she looked over at me raising her eyebrows, I recently gotmyfirst phone from grandma, and I’m still working out how to use it. My grandma is more up with society than my parents are.
“Don’t give me that look, I just got this phone, and it’s my first phone that actually works” I said rolling my eyes, I put my phone next to me on the couch and walked outside to the car with mum. I opened the door to see Felicity sitting on the step.
“Come on Felicity, Ireland is going to cool, its a change, you will get used to it" I said trying to make her feel better, she got up and stormed inside. I picked up a grocery bag out of the back and walked up the stairs.
Mum picked up the last two grocery bags and locked the car, we walked inside and put the groceries on the kitchen bench. We still have a lot of setting up and renovating to do, all the rooms need to be repainted, the stairs out the back need to be redone, and we need new furniture. But we can’t afford that all right now, mum has a shoot coming up so she will get paid for that.
“Hey mum?” I asked.
“Yes Tay?” she asked turning away from the fridge where she was putting the groceries away and looked at me.
“What is the shoot on Monday for?”
“I’m doing some sporting shots, so I’m going to the soccer game” she said and continued putting the groceries away.
“Can I come?”
“It will be on a school afternoon, so you will be doing homework” she said sternly.
“Please mum” I begged walking over and giving her a hug.
“Someone needs to look after Felicity, she can’t be left alone” she said declining my hug.
“She will come! Please mummy!” I got down on my knees and put my hands together.
“You must really want to go, calling me mummy” she said raising one eyebrow.
“I do!” still on my knees begging.
“Fine, but your homework still has to be done” she said walking out of the room down the hall.
I’m so happy she said yes, she never says yes, I haven’t seen a soccer game in ages, I used to play itwhen I was younger, but I didn’t really like playing it, I preferred watching it. *Ding* I think that’s my phone, walking to my phone to pick it up, I have one message, from Brooke!
Brooke: Hey babe! How’s Ireland? Met any cute boys yet? Aha x
Me: I haven’t met anyone new except for the taxi driver, and he wasn’t that cute aha x
Brooke: hahaha! When do you start school?
Me: Tomorrow, I’m so nervous.
Brooke: Don’t be, you’ll be fine, just be yourself x
Me: Thanks x
Brooke: What time is it there?
Me: 7:03pm, how about there?
Brooke:4:03am aha
Me: You’re up so early!
Brooke: I have swim training this morning, I thought I would text you before I go x
Me: Naww, good luck at training x
Brooke: I will, text me when you get home from school tomorrow x
Me: I will x
She’s my best friend, she was the sporty and smart one, I used to do swimming and running with her, but I broke my knee cap when I got in a small car accident, they said I couldn’t put much pressure on my knee, so I couldn’t continue. Brooke kept swimming though, she lives back in Australia, it’s been only a month, and I miss her like crazy, I still need to give Ireland a chance, I haven’t had my first day at my new school yet. I’ve got all my equipment, I’m going into Secondary School, fifth year, I was in grade 12, high school, but the levels and grades are different here. I have to learn some more of the language as well, otherwise it will be really hard to fit in. I’m freaking myself out now, distraction, distraction. I’ll just play on my PHONE, because now I have one. But I have no social networking sites only facebook, I’m getting twitter, Ellie is obsessed with twitter and uses it 27/7, she said that I should get it, I might as well. I clicked on the app store, t-w-i-t-t-e-r, it was the first one, I clicked buy and typed in the password, I looked around the room as it loaded, the room is really boring. I looked back down at my phone, it has finished loading, time to set up my account.
Niall POV
*Next day*
It’s the first day back at school, third year, I’m Auditioning for the x factor this year, so I was practising all summer break. So I didn’t really get to see the lads, but I do today.I know my classes, math, Irish, science, history, music, English, and physical education. I’m not sure who is in them, what if my teachers don’t like me? They might not let me eat food, I’m not looking forward to it, I will just do what I did last year, I will just put it in my pencil case, they won’t suspect a thing.
“Your not usually excited on the first day back” Dad said to me while chuckling, obviously noticing the grin on my face.
“I’m not” I said forcing my smirk away, he just continued getting ready for work. He walked down the hall and opened the door to his room, this is my chance, I quickly ran over to the pantry, and grabbed all my favourite foods and some fruit. I reached over and grabbed my lunch box and began putting the food of my choice in. I quickly tip-toed over tomy bag and placed my bag of food in there. Just so dad wouldn’t check and take any out. I heard a door close, I stood up and turned around, dad was standing there, perfect timing. He was in long black pants and a blue t-shirt. He is in his day job uniform, he works in an office somewhere, can’t remember the details.
“You ready to go?” he asked grabbing his wallet.
“Do I have to go” I asked, I already know the answer but it’s worth a try.
“That’s a stupid question, come on let’s get going” I followed my father to the car.
We arrived at St. Kenny’s national school, I can see the lads kicking the football around on the oval.
“Hey man, come kick the ball” some of my friends yelled out to me, I put my bag down with everyone’s, ran over and joined in, one of the lads kicked me the ball, I began juggling it, I kickedit up, and head butted it into the air, I watched it go up and backwards, I swung around, it came down and crashed onto a girl with shining gold hair, it hit her on the head and she fell to the ground and all her books fell out ofher bag. That didn’t go as planned, I quickly jogged over to the girl.
“Are you ok? I’m so sorry it was an accident” I said collecting her books.
“It’s ok, I’m fine” she said putting her books in her bag, I picked her bag up and handed it to her, she looked sweet, I looked back at her, she was looking me right in the eyes, her eyes are shining. I held her hand and helped her up.
“Niall?!” I turned around to see the lads motioning me over, I let go of her hand.
“I will see you around, hopefully not by hitting you with a ball” I smirked, she just chuckled lightly.
“Twice in a day wouldn’t be good, I’ll see you around” she walked off, and I headed back to my friends.
