Down That Road
Chapter Fourteen
I froze as the words left his lips.
What kind of joke was this? Everyone was silent. I knew they were waiting for my reaction.
I turned around, slowly, unsure of what kind of reaction to display. They were watching me intently.
Damn, they were good actors.
"You're a werewolf?" I finally responded with a scoff. Zayn nodded in reply. "What kind of fucking joke is this?"
Now I was really angry. I only swore when I was angry.
"I have feelings too, you know. I get it, okay? I was the new girl, you were the badass. You got what you wanted, Zayn. Why are you still doing this? A werewolf? Really? You know what I am? I'm the wicked witch from the West!" I snapped. I wasn't screaming, although I wanted to and I should have. Tears pooled in my eyes, threatening to fall down my cheeks, but I refused. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry. He's had his fun.
I took a deep breathe and started to walk the opposite way of where they were standing. I had no idea where we were. I swear I was at the school and then I was here. I figured we were still near the school.
"Rylee, please wait. I'm not lying I swear," I heard feet shuffling behind me and I knew he had started to follow me. I picked up my pace ever so slightly. "Rylee! Stop! Please, hear me out."
my heart broke all over again as his desperate voice called out to me.
Part of me wished that this was just a bad dream. A horrible nightmare.
Keep going, Rylee. Don't stop. It's a trick. Don't fall for it.
A part of me kept saying. Again, the sensible part of my brain trying to be rational with me. Again, as usual, I didn't listen to it.
I stopped. I didn't turn around, I just stopped in my tracks.
"I'm sorry," his voice was so close. It was so beautiful and broken. I wanted to fix it. I wanted to fix him.
"Why are you doing this?" My voice was so soft, it sounded like a whisper.
"I'll tell you everything. All of it. No lies," he paused, debating over something in his head.
"And no secrets." He said finally. He places his hands on my shoulders and gently turned me to face him. I mustered up the courage to look him in the eyes.
I melted. The strong, unbreakable, superwoman facade fell, revealing my shattered appearance.
His brown eyes, full of affection, stared back at me.
"None?" I asked timidly.
"None," he confirmed before pulling me into the warm, tight hug I desperately needed.
