What I Don't Remember
Dream State
“Grab my hand,” it said, “I’ll pull you up.”
I was hesitant at first because I didn’t know who this person was, but I hadn’t heard a voice that familiar in months, so I took it. The hand pulled me through a bright opening in the ceiling and before I knew it I was up in the mountains with Harry. He smiled weakly as if he were afraid to tell me something.
“Harry, why did you bring me here?” I asked.
He backed away from me before stopping in front of a small figure who I couldn’t quite see.
“So you could choose.” He whispered.
My mouth fell open as Timothy emerged from behind Harry. He skipped over to me and gave me a hug before running back over to Harry. I tried to smile but something that I couldn’t quite figure out was off about him. His face looked older and he was wearing a white suit with a gold bowtie. I wondered why he would be wearing a suit up in the mountains and then I remembered what Harry said.
“Choose what?” I asked, staring open-mouthed at the two of them.
I was tempted to jump off the mountain just so I could get out of this never ending nightmare. Harry and Timothy stood there as two doors appeared behind them. The one behind timothy was white and the one behind Harry was black.
“You have to choose between the two of us. You can’t have both.” Timothy said in a voice I didn’t recognize.
I stared at him in disbelief.
“If you choose me, you go through this door.” Harry said, pointing to the door behind him.
“And if you choose me, you go through this door.” Timothy opened the door behind him slightly and I saw a wave of beautiful colors and bright lights.
For some reason I wanted to go through Timothy’s door just to see what was behind it, but I also wanted to be with Harry. This decision was so difficult that I found myself crying again.
“How could you guys put me in this situation?” I said through my tears, “I can’t choose between the two of you.”
Harry and Timothy looked at each other before disappearing into their individual doors. Not even thinking, I panicked and ran after Harry. When I got to the other side he was standing there with a bouquet of roses just like the ones he had given me at the hospital.
“Welcome home.” He said, as I let him guide me back to reality.
