Uplifting

Party

After I had dropped Marcel off, I drove myself home.

"Hey mom, I'm home," I called into the small apartment. I dropped my bag in the living room on my way into the kitchen.

"Hey, honey, how was school?" my mom asked. My mom really didn't look much like me- she had short, dirty blonde hair and brown eyes, and she was short. She was in her early thirties, because she had me when she was really young.

"Totally bogus. They didn't have my schedule or anything, so I had to follow around this one nerdy kid. But he was really nice, so I guess it's fine."

"Cute nerdy or nerdy nerdy?" she asked.

I laughed, "Everyone treats him like nerdy nerdy, but he's cute nerdy." My mom gave me a look. She wanted me to be a prissy, popular cheerleader type of girl that she was. I wasn't really into that- I don't party, I'm not stuck up and I'm not entirely worried about being popular.

She turned around to go back to cooking, but then looked back at me. "Oh, shoot. Rox, I'm out of milk. Can you run and grab me some? Pretty please?" she pleaded.

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, Mom, it's no big deal." I verified directions to the convenience store and came back about ten minutes later. My mom was standing in the kitchen with a slip of paper, smiling happily at me.

"Guess what, Roxy? A cute boy came over and gave me directions to his house for you. He's throwing a party. I already picked out your outfit," she gushed, pulling me in for a hug with the gallon of milk between us.

"Mom, I don't know any cute boys who throw parties," I sighed.

"His name was Calvin."

"How did he even know where we lived?"

"I don't know, he probably followed you home."

"Mom, that's weird. I'm not going."

"Oh yes you are! You did not ruin my party life just to not have one!" my mom scolded. I sighed. "If you don't agree to go, I'm driving you to that party and making sure you stay there."

"Fine, fine," I grumbled. I knew my mom was serious about this, even as ridiculous as it was. I went into my room and go dressed. My mom did my make up and curled my hair a bit. "This is seriously so stupid, mom, what if I'm the only one dressed up?"

"Then all the boys will want you, won't they?"

"I don't want boys, Mom, I want to stay home," I groaned. She gave me a look. "Maybe I do want boys a little, but.."

"Shush. Now go look in the mirror," she scolded, pushing me. As I looked at my outfit in the full length mirror, I did have to admit, I looked good. "That's my girl. Now go get 'em! Don't do anything I wouldn't do and be home before two."

I hugged my mom as she handed me the address. "Thanks. Even though I'm not going to enjoy myself at all, I'm happy you're happy."

I drove myself to the written address, and I pulled up at what was practically a mansion; almost twice the size of Marcel's. Most of the lights were out and there was no music anywhere. Did my mom give me the wrong address?

I double checked and parked my car. I decided to knock on the door just in case. When the door opened, there was Calvin.

"Hey, you made it," he said with a smile.

"Yeah... I thought there was supposed to be a party?" I asked, getting nervous.

"There is. A party of me and you," and with that he kissed me on the lips and pulled me into his house, slamming the door behind us.

This was one party I wish I hadn't gotten invited to.
