Led to You (Stole My Heart)
Chapter 3
Lailani's POV:
I felt eyes bore into me as I decided.
"Yeah, I would like that." I gave him my brightest smile. In unison, the boys all let out an "Awww" which just made Niall blush.
"Ooo! What do you say, Niall? Double date with me and Liam?" said Natalie.
"And me and Eleanor?" Louis added.
"Nah, guys. Thanks, but we'll just go by ourselves.," He smiled down at me and said, "We should probably get you back to your hotel."
The boys dropped me off at my hotel and Niall walked me to my room.
"Well, here we are, 413. You didn't have to walk me to the door, ya know." I said.
"Yeah, I know. But I wanted to." Aw, seriously. I can't believe this was the same boy who kept on shushing me in the bathroom.
"Okay, well I'll see you tonight, kay?"
"Yep, see you tonight." He smiled his signature Niall smile and left. I walked in the door and quietly closed it behind me.
"So, what have you been up to?" my mom asked.
"I went to breakfast with those boys. Do you know who they are?"
"Yeah, their those One Direction boys, right?" How the hell does she know that.
I asked her, "How do you know that?" and she laughed.
"Well, honey, I don't live under a rock! They're on the radio all the time! And I recognized the curly haired one, Harry?" Jesus. I do live under a rock.
"Well, anyway, we went to breakfast and Niall, the blonde, Irish one, asked me out tonight. Is it okay if I go?" my mom kind of looked dejected, "If you don't want me to go..."
"No, no, hun. Go. Have the ultimate British experience. I was just going to go see Big Ben tonight. I'll be fine, really." She gave me a reassuring smile.
"Okay, if you say so. Anyway, you need to help me decide on what to wear... because you're good at that kind of thing."
She pulled out a cute beige shirt from my suitcase that says "I'm not weird, I am limited edition", "How about this shirt?" I nodded.
"I like that. Dark blue skinny jeans?" I asked holding them up.
"Yeah, that would be nice. What about this blue scarf?"
"No, I think the maroon one will look better."
We discussed my outfit for hours as I began to feel nervous for this date.
Niall's POV:
"What should I get her?" I asked Lou.
"Flowers, flowers are a good choice. Every girl likes flowers." he responded while looking through my closet. Honestly, why am I this nervous? I've never been this nervous before...
"Okay... What should I wear then?"
"Trousers... Definitely wear some trousers." Lou said sarcastically.
"Lou! I'm being serious here! I don't know why, but I'm really nervous for this one. More nervous than when I went on stage for my audition on the X Factor."I sat down on the bed and Lou looked over at me concerned.
"Really, man? That nervous? It's just one date." He clapped his hand against my shoulder and sat down next to me.
"Ya see, that's where you don't understand. She's different. And for some reason, I always find myself thinking about her... Even though I barely know her yet." I put my face in my hands, "I really hope I don't mess this up."
Lou tried to comfort me and said, "Oh come on, Neil. Don't think like that. She obviously likes you if she agreed to go on this date with you. So, really, in her mind, there's no way for you to mess up... Unless you don't show up." He patted my back and continued, "Just be yourself. Don't try to act cool...Or your definition of cool, anyway... Don't try to be sly... And definitely don't try to be James Bond. We all remember what a disaster that was with Harry."
Just then, Harry's voice echoed from the other room, "Hey! I heard that!" and we both started to chuckle.
"But anyway, just be Niall. And if she doesn't like Niall, that just means you haven't found the right one. But I think Lani is different when it comes to that." he gave a smile and pulled me up from the bed, "So! Outfits. I say your 'the Who' band shirt, and a grey cardigan... Obviously jeans and your white shoes. And I think you'll be all set." Sometimes the bugger gets on my nerves, but I'm really glad that I have someone like him to help me out with this. I gave him a bro hug.
"I love you, man. Thanks for helping me out with this."
"Anytime, Neil. Just remember, don't be James Bond." He laughed as we heard a "It was just one time!" in the background. Liam stepped in through the door way.
"You all good for tonight, Niall?" he asked, checking on me.
"Yeah, just a little nervous."
He came up to me and put his hands on my shoulders, "It's natural. We've all been through it. Just relax and remember to be yourself."
I glimpsed over at Lou, "He's right, ya know." he responded.
"Okay, I will. Thanks Liam."
"No problem, Nialler. You would do the same for us. Now, Lou and I better get out of here so you can change." They both stepped out and I put on the clothes Lou and I picked out. Then, I headed out into the living room.
"So what do you think?" I turned around in a circle as they jokingly "oo-ed" and "aw-ed".
"So what kind of flowers are you getting her?" Harry asked.
"I'm not sure, yet. I'll know when I get to the flower shop."
"Okay, well you know the rules. No later than twelve, and if you're bringing her home, warn us first so we can put in headphones or something." Zayn chuckled as he said this as I just rolled my eyes and smiled. "But if you need anything just ask, okay?"
I thought about it and replied, "Actually... There is one thing you guys can help me with."
Lani's POV:
It was a quarter to 7 and my foot was dancing erratically. I haven't been on a date in almost a year... God, I hope I don't screw this up.
"Honey, you'll be fine," my mother reassured me, "He asked you out, obviously there's not really a chance for you to 'screw up'." She kissed me on the cheek. "No matter what happens, I love you. That's really all that matters, right?" I smiled a weak smile. I'm so nervous. And the butterflies are fluttering harder each time the clock ticks by. At that moment, we heard a knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" I got up and swiftly opened the door. There stood Niall holding a bouquet of roses. Wow. I looked at him surprised. "Are these for me?" I asked.
"Actually, I was planning on giving them to your mom but-," He let out a heartfelt laugh, "Of course they're for you!" he handed them to me and I smelled their sweet perfume.
"That's really sweet, thank you."
"I'll take those." My mom said, quickly snatching up the flowers and putting them in a glass
(We're in a hotel... so we had to improvise). "You two have fun, but don't be out too late."
"Of course. I won't have her out any later than 10:30." His smile was genuine and made my mom smile. Yep, that charm could hypnotize anyone, I'm sure.
My mom pointed her finger at him while looking at me, "I like him!" and he both began to laugh.
Mid laugh I waved her good-bye, "Okay, bye mom, love you." We began to walk out the door as we heard a "Love you, too! Be safe!"
-20 minutes later-
After about 20 minutes, we arrived at the same little restaurant that we were at this morning. We held hands and walked inside. The same hostess greeted us with the same warm smile.
"How many?"
"Just two." he responded and leaned in to whisper in her ear. Okay...
"Okay, right this way." she walked right past us and out the door. Wait... Am I missing something? We followed her outside and up the fire escape to the roof. Waiting there were four other guys with their hands behind their backs. The roof was decorated in lights and there was a picnic blanket with a candle and basket waiting in the center. Among the lights were about a dozen more candles and I just couldn't believe my eyes. And in the background, was the perfect view of Big Ben and the London Eye. Wow, are these guys Romeos in training or something? This is just... perfect.
"Wow, this is incredible." was all I could manage to get out.
"I'm glad you like it. I really couldn't have done it without these guys, though."They all came one by one and gave Niall a hug and wished him good luck.
"You two have fun now!" Harry called out.
"Not too much fun, now. I want to get some sleep tonight." Zayn echoed.
I just laughed, "Thanks guys!" I shouted back. "You really have the coolest friends, ya know that?"
"They aren't really friends. They're more like brothers, now." His smiled reflected a bit of reminiscence as we sat down on the picnic blanket.
"So, what's on the menu, good sir?" I asked (Again attempting my British/Aussie accent)
Then he attempted an American one, "Well, we have some hot chocolate, water, some strawberries," then he switched to an Italian accent, "And I ordered some spaghetti and-a meatballs." I started busting out laughing.
"I feel like we're in a Disney movie... Does that make me Lady and you the Tramp?"
He laughed and sipped his hot chocolate, "Well, I was kind of hoping I was going to be Lady but... I guess," It's so natural... talking to him, "As long as I don't have to nudge meatballs with my nose."
I laughed even harder, "What? You afraid of a little challenge?" He just laughed and traced the lid of his hot chocolate.
"So tell me about yourself, Lani. Where are you from? What do you like to do?"
"Well," I thought, "I live in America... Pennsylvania to be exact. About an hour away from Hershey Park. And no, I'm not Amish, " I laughed, "Um.. I like to play guitar. I've actually been teaching myself for 5 years... But I am still kind of on a beginner's level. Let's see, what else. I write songs, but they're nothing big. Just songs to clear my mind... They're kind of there to be my therapy, ya know?" he nodded his head, "Uh... I'm a big nerd, actually. I love anything Marvel or DC.. But I mostly prefer Batman. I like the show Sherlock... Doctor Who... Lord of the Rings... Harry Potter...Video games... Basically name anything and I'm probably into it." I stopped there. He now probably thinks I'm lame.
"Doctor Who, ya say? You have that in America?" That was his only question?
"Yeah, it's getting pretty big in America, actually. And Sherlock is getting there too," I smiled shyly, "Wow, I really hope you don't think I'm lame." I admitted.
"No, no, no, no, no. That's awesome! You're definitely one of a kind. I like that," I felt my cheeks grow hot, "So what bands do you listen to?"
"This might take long, haha. I listen to Nirvana, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who... to Panic! At the Disco and stuff like that... to Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers... to Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran." I should probably stop there... "I think if you want to be a successful musician, you have to be diverse. Start at the roots and work your way up."
"Really? I like that...and I totally agree. And I like most of those bands too. Especially the Who... If you can't tell," he looked down at his shirt, "Some of them I haven't heard of obviously... But Ed. He's a good friend of ours." He's lying... he has to be.
"No way, I don't believe you." My mouth was wide open.
He held his hands up in protest, "I'm not lying, I swear."
"Then prove it."
"Okay, I'll call him right now." Niall picked up his phone and dialed the number and put it on speaker.
"Hey, you've reached Ed. Sorry about not picking up. But, I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible, mate. You know what to do when you hear the-*beep*." He ended the call and I looked at him in awe.
"Well, I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Mr. Horan."
"It's quite alright, Miss..." He was struggling. Shit, I never gave him my last name!
I cut him off, "Kalua." I said.
"Miss Kalua. Hm. I like that. It's very... exotic," I laughed, "So, I've met your mom. What about the rest of your family?"
"Oh well, my sister, Jenny, is about 20 and goes to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She wants to become a high school music teacher. And my brother ... well, he's training to be in the National guard. He's 22, almost 23."
"Wow, that's amazing. How about your father? What does he do?" I grew silent. I hated to talk about my father. Especially after what he put me through. "Lailani?" he looked at me concerned as I stared at my coffee cup.
"I don't see or talk to him much." I slowly replied.
"Oh, is he a busy man?"
I felt tears well up in my eyes and I tried to avoid his gaze. Changing the subject, I asked him about his family. "So Niall, what's your family like?"
He looked slightly confused, but I guess he realized that it was something that I didn't want to talk about.
We talked for hours and laughed so hard until our sides hurt. By the time the date was over, it was 9:15.
"We still have some time left. Want to go back to my place?" Oh goodness...
"Um.. Look, Niall, no offence but... I don't do that sort of thing..." His eyes got wide.
"No, no. I don't either," he nervously laughed, "I meant to hang out. The boys are probably still up, and you'll finally get to meet Paige."
"Paige? Who's Paige?"
I felt eyes bore into me as I decided.
"Yeah, I would like that." I gave him my brightest smile. In unison, the boys all let out an "Awww" which just made Niall blush.
"Ooo! What do you say, Niall? Double date with me and Liam?" said Natalie.
