Led to You (Stole My Heart)
Chapter 14
Lani POV:
Mnm. What happened? Where am I? I woke up to bright lights and white walls. A prison...? Asylum? I looked beside me and saw nurses and doctors running throughout the hallways. I looked down and saw that I was moving in one of those hospital beds. I drowsily put my head back on the pillow as one of the nurses talked to me.
"It's okay, Lani. We just have to give you some stitches and keep you overnight. You're gonna be alri-" I faded again.
The last thing I remember was that I was in a beautiful, lush clearing in a deep, dark forest. I looked around confused as I searched for clues. Where was I? Wasn't I just in a hospital bed? I turned around and saw a shadow hidden in the trees. Oh no. I stood there in fear. Please don't be who I think you are. The stranger walked out into the light and I recognized his beautiful blue eyes and wonderful blonde hair. Tears of joy, happiness, and relief began to stream down my face as I ran towards him and jumped into his arms.
"I thought I lost you. I thought he hurt you." I cried into his shirt, smelling his sweet skin.
"I'm here now," He squeezed me tighter, "I thought I lost you, too."
I looked up at his face and grabbed it. "Never do that again." He said nothing. It was like he was frozen in time. Then, he started to fade away... Slowly, but surely.
"NO!" I screamed, "Niall!" I fell to the ground as his body completely disappeared. I hit the dirt violently as the tears endlessly poured down my face. The grass below me went from green and lavish to brown and lifeless. I stood up, trying to comprehend what was happening. The trees around me were bare and dull while the birds and butterflies dropped to the ground, dead. I gasped, mortified. I turned around in a complete circle and my dad was standing there. I let out a high pitched shriek.
"No one to save you now, huh?" he cackled as he put his grip around my neck. His facial features contorted into a terrifying monster. His eyes turned yellow and his skin turned into a crimson red color. Horns erected from his head and his cackle grew deeper. I tried to squirm from his grip, but he only squeezed tighter. I could barely breathe as I glanced at the ground below me. It went from lifeless to a conflagration of flames in a split second. I screamed at the top of my lungs until they gave out...
I woke up suddenly to Liam's face filled with concern as he shook me awake.
"Lani?! Lani?! What's wrong?" he asked.
I breathed in sharply and touched my hand to my cheeks. They were cold and damp as my hair stuck to it. I must've cried while I slept... He took his arms and wrapped them around me.
"You're alright, you're okay. He's gone. You're safe." He whispered into my ear as I cried softly in his arms.
"Where's Niall?" I asked.
"He's going to be alright." I heard a voice say. I turned towards it and saw Paige standing there. I froze and stopped breathing.
"It's alright, Lani. She promised that she wouldn't hurt you." Liam said. I didn't trust her, but she's not saying anything so...
"Where's Jenny?" I asked looking around erratically.
"She's fine too." Natalie said. I looked over at her and she put out her arms to hug me. She rubbed my back as I closed my eyes, hugging her back. "I thought we almost lost you, sweetie." She sighed. "I'm just glad you and Niall are both safe now."
"My dad. Where is he." I said expressionless.
"He's at a completely different hospital, chained up to the bed. And possibly about to go through therapy." Liam said. I sighed in relief.
"Wait, why is he in the hospital?" I asked.
"Oh, because your sister hit him in the head with a lamp." Natalie said.
"I thought it was a vase..." Paige said.
"Oh whatever, same thing. Anyway, he was unconscious too when the police arrived." I closed my eyes again, still in Natalie's embrace.
"I hate that man." I said.
"I know, sweetie. I know."
Jenny POV:
"Ya know, you were pretty brave back there." I said to Zayn. We just finished talking to the police and we sat in the extra ambulance with shock blankets covering us.
"I was wasn't I?" He said proudly.
I laughed, "Don't get too cocky now." I jokingly warned him. Another car pulled up and it was Louis's. Two figures stepped out and I could tell from the his hair that the other was Harry. Oh great. Zayn next to me and Harry coming over. Woo. The police men stopped them and told them that this was a blocked off area. They looked over towards us and pointed. The officer cocked his head and shrugged as he lifted up the yellow tape.
"Hey, are you guys alright?" Louis asked.
"Obviously not, man. I have a blanket, see?" He chuckled which made me laugh with him. Harry just rolled his eyes. I shut up as soon as he did.
"Well, this has been a very interesting night, hasn't it?" Louis asked, "Let's just agree that next time we all just hang out at the Kalua residence."
"That's actually a good idea." Zayn laughed. Harry just looked at me with burden and concern filling his eyes.
"Hey, Jenny, can I talk to you alone?" He asked.
I looked over at Zayn, "Is it okay?" he nodded.
I got up with the blanket still around me as we walked over to the sidewalk.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there with you..." He apologized while playing with his hands.
"No, it's okay," I assured him, "You had other business to take care of."
"But I should've been with you!" He said frustratingly, "I should've been that knight in shining armour."
"Yeah? Well what about Paige?"
"Paige and I are done! I have the bruise to prove it. Look, Jenny. I want to be with you. Just you. Nobody else. And I thought that kiss made up your mind... But now, I guess you really have to choose." I looked over at Zayn, sitting there talking and laughing with Louis. He's so sweet... And he would really do anything for me... But Harry...
"Don't make me choose now." I said, "Wait 'til all this," I referenced to the lights and sirens around us, "is in the past." I walked away with that hanging in the air. Back to the ambulance where Zayn was.
Niall POV:
I woke to a knock at the door. Liam's head poked through.
"Hey, bud. How you doing?" I got up and squeezed my eyes, in pain.
"Hurting. But doing better. How's Lani?" I asked.
"She could be doing better... She's actually pretty scarred." He sighed.
"I wish I could be next to her right now..." I said, despondent.
"I can go ask if you can stay in her room for the night..." Liam suggested. My face lit up and I nodded. He left for a second and came back with a tall man in a white coat.
"Okay, Mr. Horan. Let's move you to room 2234." I smiled widely (Which hurt really badly) as they wheeled me to Lani's room.
They opened the door and she was on her phone. She looked up and grew the biggest smile I've ever seen. I love her smile. I love everything about her. I waved at her and she almost couldn't contain her excitement. They put me right next to her and I reached my arm out to her. It didn't reach... Then, Liam pushed me an inch closer so we could hold each other's hand .
"I thought I lost you," she said.
"And I thought I lost you, too." I said, "Are you okay?"
"Never been better." She smiled as she closed her eyes. She slowly drifted to sleep with our hands still entwined.
