Chapter 14: Dodging the Paparazzi (Liam’s P.O.V.)
I couldn’t believe that we were all ready to leave before eight. The guys were ready to leave too, but I told them that we should probably wait to make sure that Tori was up. It was only moments later that I saw Zayn typing away on his phone. I knew that he was texting Tori, because that was all he had done last night. It wasn’t every long after he started that a smile appeared on his face. I knew that Tori was up. I was happy that Zayn was smiling like that again. He hadn’t smiled like that since he had been with Perrie, since before she broke up with him.
“She’s up,” he told us all as he broke me from my thoughts.
“Then what are we waiting for?” an Irish accent asked. We all agreed but it was Louis who responded.
“Let’s go,” Louis said as he pointed for the door and began to move toward it.
We all followed him outside and toward the van. Then the flashes started, we were swarmed by paparazzi as they shoved cameras into our faces. We all smiled for them as we tried to get passed them. I could see Louis staying in front of Niall as Zayn stayed behind him. I was glad that they were trying to keep him from going into a panic attack from his claustrophobia. I was glad, but pushed it aside as I pushed through the crowd.
It took a little effort, but we finally managed to get into the van. Louis eased his way forward, forcing the crowd to move. It was a slow process, but managed to get out of our driveway and then we were off.
“Take a right,” Harry directed Louis as he looked at a map on his phone.
“I don’t see any of them following,” Niall said as he watched out of the back.
Zayn added, “But we should still make sure that we lost them.”
“I agree,” I said as I kept my eyes forward to assure that we weren’t spotted again.
It took us only ten more minutes to make it to our hiding place for our van. We took a moment to make sure the coast was clear before we left the van. We really didn’t pay much attention to much, seeing as we had walked to her house many times. It was hard to believe that we had been hanging out with Tori all weekend, it was already Monday.
“Tori just said to ignore the screaming in her house,” Zayn said as he raised an eyebrow at his phone.
We all looked at him with the same suspicious look. We all had no idea what she could be talking about, and the screaming part had us all a little worried. That was when her house came into view, and we knew that we wouldn’t have to wait long.
We walked up and waited as Harry knocked on the door. I could hear footsteps on the other side of the door as people were coming. Then I realized that I was hearing more than just one pair of feet. That was when the door opened to reveal a smiling Tori.
“Hey guys,” she greeted us as she stepped aside to let us in.
Once we were inside, she shut the door and told to us, “There is someone here that wants to meet the five of you.”
“Not fair,” a female voice said from the hallway. A girl of Tori’s age with dark hair and a dark complexion as she stood at the edge of the room. She had her hands on her hips, “I was going to scare them.”
Tori shook her head as she walked over toward the other girl, “No, I don’t want you giving any heart attacks before you have met anyone.”
The other girl started to pout, “It’s still not fair.”
I was amused by this girl’s attitude. I felt as if we would all get along with her well. As I thought about that, I had a funny feeling that she was going to be just like Louis, which did scare me a little.
“Well guys,” Tori started, “This is my friend Amber.”
We all waved as the room was filled with hellos and heys. She smiled at us before turning to look at Tori, “Friend?”
Tori sighed, “Fine. Best friend and sister.”
The two smiled at each other before Amber clapped her hands together, “Well, I have to get before Dad starts worrying. I’m supposed to be home by now.”
Tori followed her as she headed for the door, “I wish that you could stay or go with us.”
“I know,” she turned back, “but I have to help Dad with his room today.”
“Well, if you guys need help just call me.” Tori offered as she held the door as Amber walked through it.
“Are you kidding?” Amber stopped and looked at Tori, “And take you away from those five?” I saw her give Tori a small wink before turning and heading down the walkway, “Don’t worry, will do.”
Tori shook her head as she closed the door. “She is a nut.”
I could easily tell that Tori and Amber were really close just by how they talked and acted together. It was a little sad that we didn’t get to talk with Amber more, but I had a feeling that we would be seeing more of her.
“Well, what did you guys want to do today?”
We all looked at each other. That was something that we hadn’t really discussed or thought about. I think Tori caught on to this as we all looked from one another.
“Let’s go out somewhere,” Louis exclaimed.
Tori shook her head, “You didn’t plan this out at all, did you?”
I shook my head no, seeing a few of the others follow suit. Tori chuckled a little as she continued to shake her head.
“Okay,” she started,” Then where shall we go?”
We all thought for a moment. There seemed to be a lack of brain power between us this morning. It took a few minutes, but finally someone spoke.
“Let’s start with lunch and then so from there.” Harry suggested.
Niall nodded with a smile, “That sounds like a good idea.”
I shook my head as we all headed for the door, “Anything about food is good with you.”
