One Life, Live It
Chapter 10: Day 5
Day 5: 6:32 PM
It was the weekend and already I was running short on clothes. Well, I did go shopping, but I wasn’t sure what to wear first. Dakota finally managed to clean out a drawl for me, since she was uber-lazy and I wasn’t really up for the mood of unpacking the first day anyways. We had a system going on at the moment. I would grab my clothes and toss it to her then she would stuff it in the drawl.
I was nearing the bottom of my bag. I felt a lump. I made a confused face, I was pretty sure I got all my beauty products and other stuff out already. I dug through my clothes, coming to a plastic bag. I blinked, picking it up and looking at it.
Brownies? I looked at it strangely, the hell was brownies doing in here? I opened it, sniffing its contents. Yep, smelt like brownies. But still, I don’t remember packing any. I didn’t have a reason to. I felt Dakota come to my side. “Why do you have brownies?”
“I don’t know…” I was curious myself.
“Is that… what’s that green stuff?” She asked, confused and curious.
I stared. My eyes widened when I finally figured out what it was. “Those bastards…” I said in disbelief.
“What?” Dakota asked, wanting to know.
I was going to college in Ohio. I had a friend up there who had other friends that liked to smoke weed. I had no interest with the whole smoking weed deal even though I hung out with them. I wasn’t surprised they stuck this shit in my bag. They probably thought they were doing me a favor. “Mary Jane.” I said to her, hoping she’d catch on.
At first she was a little confused, but her eyes widened some. Her voice shot down 10 decimals. “Seriously? Pot brownies?”
I nodded. “Fuck…” Dakota said, looking at her bedroom door. “Kariann will kill us if she sees that.”
“What do we do?” I asked her, holding the bag.
She bit her lower lip. She looked at her door again. “Well… maybe we should leave before Kariann sees this…”
I nodded, agreeing. Dakota ran over, grabbing a tote, opening it. “Put it in here.”
I did and we threw on our flip flops and walked out of the bedroom. “I’m taking Bonnie to the beach!” Dakota said as we walked into the living room.
Two heads turned from the couch. I noticed Criminal Minds playing on the television and an third head missing. “Where’s Sabrina?” I asked.
“I think she’s still at the pier. I told her to give me a call if she wanted a ride home.” Abbi answered.
Dakota and I flashed a look. Hopefully we wouldn’t run into her. “Well, have fun being stuck here.” Dakota said as we walked toward the door.
“Isn’t it getting a little late for the beach?” Kariann asked. “Are you going swimming?”
“No.” I answered. “We’re just going to walk around for a bit.”
“See you!” Abbi waved. “Give me a shout out to Sabrina if you see her.”
Dakota and I nodded as we stepped out into the hallway. “I feel weird.” Dakota said, holding her tote close to her.
I laughed as we continued down the steps. We decided to skip out on the car ride. We wasn’t sure what we were going to do with the brownies, but still, if we did end up eating them, driving wouldn’t be the best alternative. It wasn’t far of a walk anyways. We saw the pier that Sabrina might have been on, so we decided to steer clear of that.
We walked on the deserted beach, taking a seat near a bed of rocks that kept us hidden from public view. Dakota pulled out a beach towel that was in her bag and put it on the sand so we could sit. We sat on either end, facing each other. She took out the brownies from the bag, putting it between us. We stared at it for the longest time.
“I’m scared.” Dakota said.
Yeah, considering we’ve never done this before, we were a little nervous. My friend back in Ohio use to do weed, but stopped after going into an epileptic seizure. He was an idiot. I warned him. He did that shit just about every hour in the day.
I swallowed, staring at the PBs.
