Look After You
Look After You
*Louis’s POV*
I let my voice ring through the mic. The crowd was there, but I didn’t want to see them. I wanted to see Cat, so I closed my eyes, letting the memory of her enter my mind. It only seemed to let my voice become more passionate. Sing from your lungs, I’ve always been told, yet nobody has ever told me to sing from my heart. This was what it was like to sing with your emotions. My desperation was calling out, my love for her was right there in my voice.
“There now, steady love, so few come and don't go. Will you, won't you be the one I'll always know? When I'm losing my control, the city spins around. You're the only one who knows, you slow it down…”
The lyrics were so meaningful to me. They made sense. That was why I was singing it. This was my all-time favorite song, even before I met Cat, but now I had a reason to sing it. The mere fact she was the reason made the song so much more meaningful.
“Oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh. Be my baby. Oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh. Be my baby. I'll look after you and I'll look after you…”
Could she hear me? I opened my eyes. Was she here? I searched through the crowd, wanting to see her, willing myself to find her. Her presence, it was here. It’s always been there. But now, I was expecting to see her. I wanted to find her. I just wanted to feel her in my arms again.
I could see the phones out and recording. I could see the pap taking the pictures. This was so typical, it was almost ridiculous. Colton was by the stage, probably smiling at his work. That boy was really a strange character, but I guess that was what made him so easy to get along with. With this as his plan, I would see Cat again. He said she might even be here today. Would she?
I wanted to find her.
Only, I couldn’t.
The song came to an end. There was that long line of silence. People were looking around, as if waiting for something to happen. I was looking in the crowd. For so long, I’ve always looked on the outside, so today I decided she would be a part of them, which was why I was looking in.
How wrong I was.
I thought it was a figment of my imagination, but I thought I saw her. I blinked, looking at the girl leaning against a tree. I could see her feet, all the way up to where her face was half hidden. I saw the smile spread across her face. I knew that smile. I’ve seen it only a few times, but each time I would remember. I stood up, the chair I was sitting on skidded back some, almost falling over.
“Cat…” I whispered. My whispered picked up through the mic, announcing what I just said.
The crowd was talking, looking around, looking for whoever I just mentioned. I walked to the end of the platform It was only about three feet high so I easily jumped down. People were making way, allowing me room to get to where I wanted to go. Soon the crowd broke, allowing me through.
Just how Colton described her, just how I last remembered seeing her. It was Cat. She pushed herself off the tree. I could hear the snow crunch some as she took a step toward me. She shook her head at me, as if she couldn’t believe what was happening. She smiled. “Louis.”
I’m not sure how my expression turned out to be. Her voice, it was the same. That very voice I missed hearing. I felt a smile come over to me as I stepped into the snow and pulled her to me. I could hear it then, the snapping of cameras, people talking, people screaming, but I didn’t care. Cat was here. Right here. Her presence was now with me. The happiness was so overwhelming in me that I felt tears start to well up.
“Cat…” I buried my head in the crook of her neck. “You’re here.”
She was silent, but I heard her whisper to me. “I’ve always been here, Lou. You have no idea.”
I almost cried then, but I didn’t. I was so happy, so genuinely happy. Some part of me became whole again. Hearing these words, I knew. She was never gone, the presence of her being near, they were real. I believed her words. She was never gone, but I never saw her. It was because of that that drove me insane all the time. I thought I was always feeling the shadow of her memory haunting me, but no, what was driving me mad before was her physical presence always being near and me never being able to see her.
But I didn’t care about that now. I pulled away finally. I looked into her green eyes, so dark and beautiful. I saw a flash, causing me to blink back into reality some. I swallowed, noticing the crowd around us. I reached down, grabbing her hand. “Come with me. I… want to talk to you.”
Her head toward the cameras. I saw quick flashes. She nodded. “Yeah…”
I’d completely forgotten about Colton then. I didn’t care either. I started to pull her along, even with the pap trying to follow behind with unending questions. Remember the times I spoke about only driving under certain circumstances? Well, gladly, this was one of them. I found my car quickly and Cat got in on the passenger side. There were cameras still flashing, so I didn’t hesitate to start the car and drive off.
I didn’t know where to go. I decided to go with my best option: home.
