That was then, This is now

One Year

I sighed happily when we reached portuguese soil. It's good to be back home after a while. I haven't realized how much I missed it until I got off the plane.
Harry instantly agreed when I gave this idea of coming here for the weekend since today is our anniversary of 1 year since we started dating and it happened right here!
We'll be staying at my mum's house, just the two of us since my mum and sister are currently in the south visiting some family but will be back sunday and India will fly with me and Harry back to London to visit out father now that she's on summer's vacations.
But till then, the time is all ours.

"I haven't bee here in so long." Harry commented when I opened the door to my house... my old house I mean.

"Well me neither actually." I chuckled. "Let's drop this in my room first." I pointed to the bags in Harry's hands.

"We'll sleep in your room?" I saw a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

"Of course we will, where else do you want to sleep?" I raised my eyebrow.

"I was just asking." He shrugged.

"Here we are." I walked in taking in the view of my room. It's exacly just how I left it.

"I missed your room." Harry commented sitting on the end of the bed.

"You've only been here twice." I reminded.

"I know but I like it, it has your smell and it's literally you. Everything in this room screams Mia."

"What? No it doesn't." I chuckled.

"It kinda does, it's neat and tidy, you have numerous photos because you like to capture the small moments forever, your wardrobe is huge and I wouldn't have imagined otherwise and you have pink adorns everywhere which is your favorite color." He answered rather proudly.

"Well Mr. Know it All, it's good to know you still remember my favourite things." I walked to the bed standing between his legs.

"Of course I do, we live together remember?" Harry rested his hands on the back of my thighs.

"Don't say?" I roamed my hand around his soft curls.

"You know what's missing in your room?" He questioned with a sly smile. Not good things can come from his dirty mouth.

"What's that?" I decided to bite nonetheless.

"Some good memories in this bed." He concluded while pushing me to his lap, my legs straddling his waist.

"Well that's something we can work on tonight." I winked.

"Why not now?" He wiggled his eyebrows laying on the bed and pushing me on top of him.

"Because..." I stopped to kiss his pout. "we still have to unpack."

"We can do that after." He pinched my bum teasingly.

"You and I both know that's not true." I smiled climbing off of him.

"Fine." Harry sighed dramatically, it's quite amusing to be honest.

"C'mon let's go have some lunch first." I pushed my grumpy Harry off the bed.

"Yeah I'm hungry." I rolled my eyes aware he's not talking about food.

"I know the perfect place actually."

"Are you driving?" He questioned when I climbed onto the driver's seat.

"Yeah? I'm a good driver you know." I pointed out crossing my arms.

"Not in London." He raised his brows at me.

"What? How come you say that?"

"It's true love, you don't handle traffic very well."

"Well that's because you british people spend an eternity in the traffic lights." I defended myself.

"It's called being careful." He pointed out.

"Whatever."

"Okay go." He turned on the ignition of my car.

"Fine." I got off the car allowing him to get in. "I know you want to drive." Harry merely grinned climbing onto the driver's seat.

"I've never driven in Portugal."

"Well good thing you're about to do it now." I buckled the belt on the passenger's seat.

"You're so cute." He chuckled squeezing my thigh.

"Shut up." I patted his arm playfully.

"So where to, Miss?"

"Start the car and I'll give you the directions."

Eventually we managed to arrive the restaurant I wanted as Harry did exactly what I said and very well actually but there's no way I'm admitting that.

"You're about to eat the most delicious pizza of your life." I told him when we walked inside.

"You know I've tasted food from practically everywhere." He reminded me.

"That's exactly why you'll think it's the best pizza, it's made in the oven in a really high temperature with homy ingredients." I assured him.

"How is it called exactly?"

"Made in. I don't know why they named it with and english tittle."

"So that people like me can understand." He reasoned.

"How many?" The girl inside the restaurant asked in portuguese.

"Two." I replied in my language.

I've missed this, hearing portuguese on the streets an have that familiarity even though I speak to my mum and sister very often on the phone but it's still not the same.

"What did she ask?"

"That's one of the reasons why you should learn portuguese." I winked at him. "Imagine I'm saying a bad thing about you? You won't even understand." I concluded sitting on our small table for two with a little purple candle in the middle.

"Well you'll never do such thing so there's no need for me to worry." He smirked. "What are we gonna eat then?"

"Well I always eat the same thing whenever I come here because it's delicious so maybe I can show you what it is..."

"Of course." Harry watched me attentively while I discussed with the waiter our meal. "It really is a turn on to hear you speak portuguese you know?"

"Why?" I blushed slightly.

"I don't know, it's different. Even the tone of your voice."

"I don't even wanna know the ideas flooding on your mind right now." He merely smirked at my comment.

Our pizza arrived shortly after and it was adorable to see Harry's face when he realized the pizza came in the shape of a heart.
Whenever I came here and saw other couples do it I always thought I'd come here someday and do the same with my boyfriend.

"That is so cute." Harry took a picture of the pizza.

"What? I can be romantic too." I stuck my tongue out to him.

"I know, you show it to me a lot of times but that one really caught me off guard." He confessed.

"Well let's eat then."

After our lunch and Harry's confession that it was indeed the best pizza he has ever eaten we decided to talk a walk. I took Harry to the streets full of commerce and animations.

My heart melted when Harry gave a note of 100 euros to a very talented guy playing guitar on the street. He could barely believe what was happened but his face just made my day.

"Wait here." Harry commanded walking inside a very small store. He must have seen something he liked.

A couple minutes later I watched him placing something black in his pocket when he exited.

"Did you buy something?" I questioned taking his hand in mine again.

"Nope." He replied staring ahead. That's odd.

"Humm." I swallowed thinking of why would he lie to me when I just saw him shoving something in his pocked from the store.

I guess I'll just ask him later, the last thing I want is to start fighting no only because this is our day but also because the weather is exquisite and I'm having the best time.
I spotted this man that's usually here every weekend drawing portraits of people with coal.
I practically dragged Harry with me but it was worthed because the portrait was amazing. It was me and Harry side by side, our heads rested against each others' and smiling brightly.

"We have to put that up in our room." He commented.

"I agree." I can already picture the perfect wall for this amazing work.

"That beach we went to in the day of your prom... Is it too far?" Harry questioned with a frown.

"Humm no, not exactly. Why?"

"Maybe we could go there? The weather's wonderful." He suggested.

"Yeah why not? But it will have people there, it's summer already." I informed him.

"I'm sure we can find a quiet place." He smiled.

"Okay." We walked back to the car, this time I was the one to drive but ignored all the comments Harry was throwing at my skills as a driver, It's just a car. Boys and their toys...

"We're here." I said after finally finding a place to park the car.

"We should have brought our swimming suits, it's really hot." Harry examined the place.

"Maybe tomorrow if we have some time we can do it... The flight is only at night." I suggested.

"Sounds perfect." He placed his arm over my shoulders and we walked down the beach till we found a quiet place near at the end of the beach without people in the surroundings.

Harry removed his shirt and laid it neatly on the sand so we could rest our heads there and not directly on the sand.

"I missed this." I confessed staring at the blue shinning sky. Harry replied by pushing me more to him. We bickered a bit about the beginning of our relationship because that's the exact beach where we kissed for the first time and started dating.

"I can't believe it's been a year." Harry whispered.

"Me neither." I sighed happily.

"I have something for you." Harry talked carefully. I knew he was hiding something since our promenade earlier.

"Something?" I questioned.

"Yeah." He sit up bringing me along.

"What is it?" Curiosity took the best of me.

I watched as he took whatever object was he had on his pocket. I immediately recognized it as the bag he was trying to hide for me when he walked inside that store alone. Now I can see it.

"A pen?" I questioned staring at the black object in his hand.

"Yeah. But it's not a regular pen, it's like a tattoo pen, basically you draw something with this pen for example in your wrist and it stays there for a couple weeks and you get a tattoos except it's not permanent, it disappears after normally two or three weeks."

"Okay..." I murmured slowly not getting his point.

"So I thought we could mark this day by marking our skin like drawing some sort of ring in our fingers to be like our ring for our first anniversary. And maybe if we want in a year when we celebrate two years together or whenever we decide to get married or something we could tattoo it for real like permanently..."

I stared at him completely speechless with his thoughtful idea. He wants to draw rings in our left hand as a compromise. Like an engagement ring except it's to mark for our first year together.

"It sounded better in my head..." Harry rubbed his neck uncomfortably taking my silence as a bad thing.

"No! I mean I don't know what to say..." I blinked. "It's perfect really I... I don't even know how to use the words to describe it but it really is." I assured him.

"Really?" A giant smile took over his frown.

"Yes really!" I smile pushing his lips to mine.

"You scared me for a while." He sighed in relief.

"Sorry it's just you really caught me off guard." I confessed.

"That's the idea." He winked. "Now let me start." He took my left hand and start drawing a shape of a ring on my left ring finger.

I watched silently as he draw a painted line around the finger and a small circle in the middle to simulate a diamond.

"What do you think?" His eyes bore into mine expecting an answer.

"It looks perfect." I admitted. It really does. He smiled and kissed the inked finger. "My turn now."

I took the special pen from his hand and draw the alliance in his finger. I teared up a little while doing it because I really caught off guard by his sweet gesture.
It was really the best thing he could ever give me, so thoughtful of him.
I definitely intend to make this permanent next year. It may sound silly to make a tattoo for someone because it's permanent, it will stay in my skin forever but I know from the bottom of my heart there's no reason that will stop me from loving that boy standing next to me.

"Done." I observated my work when I finished.

"I guess we're engaged then." Harry joked looking at his "tattoo".

"I guess we are." I smiled knocking him to the sand to kiss him.

I put everything I had into that kiss hoping to assure him how much I loved his gesture and how much I love him that it nearly consumed me. We shared such a passionate kiss I'm sure I'd fall down if I was not lying on his chest.

"I love you so much." I murmured against his lips, a tear finally rolling down my cheek.

"I love you more." He kissed away my tears and then my mouth again.

Notes

Sorry, couldn't help to sell my city a little! I know it may look kinda old but that's the idea and the reason why so many people visit it the entire year.

Hope you liked the chapter and please keep voting.

@M.J.

It's amazing how you know my writing and that I don't do happily ever after which is true but I don't think I've ever mentioned that (?)
And yes, I'm replying 6 months later, sorry.
I do envision the next step after that last chapter ended but that, of course, is gonna stay in my head. :)
