What makes a story get on popular?

I have a question. I was wondering what makes a story get on popular under stories? It's not the highest rates, it's not the most read... so what is it?

It's actually a mix of what you've just mentioned. I don't think the popular pages update properly but yeah it's highest number of vote realistically as well as how often people view it in a period of space. Something that gets 1000 views in an hour and gets a few votes to help it will get there.
